Seems that the game was such a disappointment that no one even tries to put up a private server without the changes they made.
i can almost hear the cries of all the bow rapier / ig mages crying if stagger was in this game like it was originally. lol u guys wish u had it but you know if u did have it you would hate it. ahaha imagine getting perma staggered, how annoying. LOL they made the better choice
The problem is… Stagger and stamina were tied in balance. They have nerfed successively anything with lockdown, which was not a bad thing but they sorely have not matched those balances for the other side.

I think that time was the best time of the game but by far… now the game as it is is a joke.

which is good to a degree, but yes. it is way too far one direction.
Making the game easier is one thing, making the game easy is another.
Accessibility is fantastic and a great way to attract new players.
Deep and engaging gameplay is how you turn those new players into loyal fans.

yea, all they had to do is port the DK / ER system with poise and all the good stuff i could expand but reading that thread just made me sad realising what NW could have been.
Sure they could comeback to it but i highly doubt they will.
I almost started a new feedback thread addressing that melee still feels bad, but it inevitably keeps going back to the same problem-
No change AGS can implement, whether it be nerfing everyone’s maneuverability or buffing melee tracking/lunging will ever make melee feel in a good spot as long as a fundamental aspect of action combat, Hit Stun/Stagger, remains absent from the game.
Ironically, ranged weapons have some of the best CC in the game with things like Ice Shower, Petrifying Scream, Net Shot/Claw Shot. Meanwhile melee gets things like Shield Bash (very short range, high cooldown), Shockwave (highly telegraphed, very easy to dodge), and Feral Rush (basically only works on stunned targets).
The answer is simple, but AGS refuses to acknowledge it. Hell, melee’s one threatening build (SnS/Hatchet), which was only threatening to squishy targets, was nerfed into the ground.
The stagger would bring balance to the light armor + rapier meta aspect along with solidifying the balance between chase potential with kite potential being sky high.
I’m not necessarily pro-stagger-on-hit as it changes the very core of combat but it would balance out many things overall.
As long as AGS doesn’t play their game to the fullest extent, this will continue happen.
One-combo builds are the only way to counter the vast kite potential and I Frame spammability in this game. It does feel bad to be CC-locked and chained, but wouldn’t the equivalent opposite be having an 8 second window with trash hit detection to possibly damage kill someone while they I Frame? every 8-10 seconds they have a huge disengage tool meanwhile melee has gutted kits and poor survivability on all levels without a pocket healer?
Too many safety blankets have been incorporated to keep combat to an even balance of power. Now that the player-base is used to the safety blankets it’s impossible to reverse it without enraging most people.
I’m sure it does, but getting locked means you got outplayed at some point.
Know what else feels bad? Trying to chase down kiting builds that have defensive cooldowns shorter than offensive gap closers. I can play perfectly, land every ability, dodge every attack, and still never kill a target because they can just potion up and walk away while I’m hitting them, or even worse, drop a sacred ground and sit in it.
I just did a crafting session last night and made myself a new blunderbuss because hatchet doesn’t pull its own weight as an offensive tool anymore.
It’s amazing to me that @NWDave doesn’t at bare minimum acknowledge that there is an issue.
My biggest hopium at the moment is they finally realise/listen and surprise us with either a combat overhaul or at least the start of one by adding stagger back in with the brimstone sands update.
It’s not going to happen obviously but at this point I’m just latching onto any misguided dream before calling it quits, since it seems this mess of a combat system is how it’s going to be until the end.
