Thanks for sharing! because of this I won’t be reinstalling and wasting my time. . . I was also tempted to reinstall and try out NW again, esp after reading all the positive reviews recently. They can keep trying to fluff up NW with QOL changes, events, new crafting, etc - but at the end of the day majority of players with 2 braincells are looking for good combat. I’m still waiting for an action MMORPG game with souls like combat to this day. I really enjoyed (past tense) playing PvP in NW , and i usually hate playing PvP in games.
I havent read the original post of this thread in ages but I just took the time to re-read it all again and it really bums me out when i think about how watered down the combat has become.
It is so true. This game used to have such amazing combat. Skill was truly the determining factor in pvp. You could 1v10 if you were good. Really. In alpha the game barely had any content. Instanced PvE content wasnt even adressed by AGS at all other than the regular “We don’t have any plans to implement that at this time” message.
But people friggin loved the game and spent all day long dueling or running around doing world PvP. Because the combat was so damn fun.
Stagger was an issue when u got stunlocked by multiple hatchets but I think instead of just dumping the entire system they could have re-worked it. New world was supposed to be a rock paper scissors style game. and now we are left with only rock and paper so the combat feels shallow as a result.
Now its all about chain CC, rend and burst. There really isn’t that much skill left in the equation anymore. 1vX is getting harder and harder since the debuff/buff modifiers stack too wildly and with shirking perks and stuff like mortal empower just really offset the skill factors by such a tremendous ammount.
This video is now over a year old and has lost none of its relevance. For everybody not knowing - Ser Medieval was THE one content creator before release that AGS shared exclusive insights with and worked with the most.
I was originally looking for his statement at timestamp 7:07 as answer for @Jiggyspice 's last post where Ser Medieval states that combat was so rewarding and feeling so good that even without much content you could spend several hours in the game solely enjoying combat. But the whole s ction starting at 4:16 is still so relevant that I linked it above.
We have been saying that for a lot of time. There were certain builds that destroyed healers. But most of the meele crew wants to outdps the heals… without healing reduction, diseases or stuns and after all the nerfs they still don’t comprehend why we can just face tank them without this.
And while I won’t argue that using healing debuff is a better way to deal with healers, Lets be honest here. If a healer is getting dog piled by three meleers, that healer should Oom by the time those melee players are done with them. That’s my main issue with Healer, as I said a few post back.
Any other mmo with good pvp wouldn’t allow healers to have virtually unlimited Mana. Pressuring a Healer’s mana should be a viable strat. People Shouldn’t be trying to “Outdps” a healer. They should be laying the damage to force healer into using more of their resources, and eventually forcing them to oom. A healer who is oomed is a dead healer.
AGS need to adjust the mana sustainability of a healer because imo, a part of what make a good healer is watching out their mana, and being able to sustain themselves without wasting those precious magic points. That mean using healing as needed instead of spamming them because you can.
I highly agree about mana consumption.
However, any sort of change like that has PvE implications and I don’t want to mess with those guys for PvP problems.
Access to disease is currently extremely niche and pitiful in most cases. New World has decided on a Rock Paper Scissors model for most combat balance, hatchet beats bow, bow beats VG, VG beats hatchet kinda deal. But in all of those cases, the underdog still stands a pretty good chance.
If you can’t stop the heals, you’re not “outplaying” them (unless they’re absolute garbage).
The heart gem is a good start, but I’d say change plagued strikes to 10% disease on any attack, stacking 3 times, and plagued crits working on targets above 50% health rather than below would make fighting against healers far more approachable and far less pre-determined in outcome.
Mana, as a mechanic, needs an overhaul for all casters.

NGL. I really don’t think it would be an issue in PvE. Refreshing Divine Embrace makes a healer able to use it VERY frequently. In PvE, if you have to Divine Embrace anywhere near as much as you do while healing PvP there’s an issue with your PvE group, imo. lol. A good sacred is all PvE REALLY needs, anything passed that then the healer is making up for tank or dps’s lack of skill.
That’s basically what he said, he doesnt want to mess w PvE healing because healers won’t be able to keep the potato DPS/Tanks alive, they have a hard enough time as is being healer and taking all the blame.

I’m sorry for the pve healers, I get it. But at the same time, we shouldn’t be coddling the dps/tank and giving them a free pass because they keep taking unnecessary damage. If they’re gonna stand in the bad circle, they deserve be put to the ground by some mob or whatever.
What happens when we get more difficult pve content? Hard enough that a healer can’t reasonabily save someone because the damage they’re taking out damage the heals the healer is putting out? Or when someone failed a mechanic and get a healing/damage up debuff? All because life staff is encouraging people to face tank unnecessary damage with no real penalty for doing so.
I understand not wanting to take the blame for someone’s lack of skill, but at the same time, the tank/dps need to learn to stop doing stuff that shouldn’t happen in the first place.

sir these are mostly wow players they are used to a bot telling them where to stand, let’s be realistic about their capacity to learn.

@Halcyon So apparently the pvp event is a disaster waiting to happening lmao. I guess the rules is, you have to do pvp quest, without actually doing pvp. If you do pvp, you get banned or something. Lots of drama and infighting too lmao

This event I suppose. Apparently some group of streamer are strong arming these events, usually the one who died from pvp while flagged, and get people banned.
Seen a streamer I watch who is big on pvp get outright demotivated from the fresh start server because of stuff like this lol.
For more context, just wait for it. The Drama is just exploding as we speak lmao.

Its irrelevant by now…the second tier of objectives contains PvP kills…so happy hunting! Everything else is just drama!
Now, I tried NW once more with the update… They removed player collision, the heavy attacks are still a joke without any trace of stagger and I simply have enough of the same boring gameplay that I keep consuming because I hope for better times. Whatever game I will play, I will feel a lot more sensations… Maybe, for the unlikely case they one day return a more engaging real time combat approach again, I will return. But I don’t want to waste my time anymore…
You know, I really also start to get mad at the devs because they not even try to find a compromise; whether regarding stagger only on heavy attacks, nore more interesting pvp concepts or pvp servers.
They really just don’t care about the long term player base. Of course it is about the highest quantity of players and money, but I wouldn’t have thought that the circumstances are that reckless… Plus, I actually don’t wanna support gaming industry like that, which kills passion in such manner, only for the short term success that immensely anyway.
Finally really deinstalling in a long term and actually I reached the point where I don’t have many good words about NW, although I was really kind of defending the game for a long time! Peace!
The thing is, when CDPR released an unfinished game, people said it’s a scam and tried to sue them. When NW creators, literally fked everyone that was there for them, for the main vision of the game, and then ignored them, changing game to their corpo-agenda, losing vast majority of players to achieve something, they could add as a supplement to the game, having loving and caring playerbase - People were beyond disappointed and simply just quit. They add new content, cool. People will do the same what every modern, incorrectly designed online game forces them to. Spend as much time on performing meaningless actions, to then ask yourself - why did I do that?
This game was to be fair my chance for Amazon to prove, that they can do something positive (a lot of negative opinions on working in their storehouses, failure of NW, then their LOTR parody) But it all shows that they just treat people like garbage. Doesn’t matter if you’re a gamer, worker, fantasy fan…
My decision was to never come back and I won’t even if they would add stagger back, because they went too far and you either got dignity and demand standards, or you are a newt and you will be milked and abused. I just hope that someone will create a private server with alpha/beta features.
There are still good PVP games tho. We still await for the golden one. I really hoped NW would be that game that would bring me the adrenaline old games did. Where you build bonds with people, wake up at night if you must, you adapt and overcome creating epic stories.
If you’re looking for decent PVP games, try out either WoW Ascension server, More story driven Turtle Wow (absolutely masterpiece of reworked classic so it is not harsh and barren as official one), For Honor, Return of Reckoning (by far the best open world PVP game imho, but old), DS, Elden Ring, Conan Exiles (they added magic natively), NTBSS or await a RPPVP Server of Neverwinte Nights 2 that will start in few months named SIlverdales
