I’ve had the same problem for a few weeks now.
I still know one way to start crafting, maybe it will be useful to someone.
You need to find a cheap item that the station will give you to make. For me, this is most often the gemstone dust from common or uncommon gems or a standard repair kit. After that, you can do what you need to do.

I think i found the problem or at least a way to know when will work, when you interact with the outfitting station or forge or anything like that, if your character doesn’t start doing the animation but he just look behind like you open your inventory that means that will fail, now if he start doing the animation will work.
So i just keep opening and close until i see he is doing the animation and then i craft anything i want, at least i don’t waste time selecting the material to fail and having to do all over again.

had this problem for 2-3 weeks since i started playing. but now it happens on every crafting station. i love leveling my crafting and this is killing any mood to play the game.

I still can’t use the outfitting station. Tried @Paiol 's fix but it just doesn’t go in to animation. Hope they fix it soon.

I have this same issue. I can’t craft anything in any Outfitting station. Any time I hit the Craft button, it just immediately exits. Its especially frustrating since I just hit 45 and cant craft my 3rd bag. I’ve tried logging off. Different crafting stations. Been going on for 3 days now. Honestly seems like since the 1.1 patch.

Several threads about this already and it’s not just Outfitting station. The bug starts for you there and progresses further to all the stations, then the refining stations, then the trading post, then War Boards and chests in the wild. And the devs still won’t even add it to the bug list. This needs to be elevated to a top priority bug as it’s becoming game breaking for an ever growing population.
you are right, I have seen the bug occuring in other crafting stations but not in a persistent way, just the first attempt. So it spreads and gets worse?

This worked for me, you can give it a try and post your results:
- Uninstall Steam but backup your steam library first so you don’t have to download the game(s) again.
- Remove %appdata%\Roaming\AGS\New World folder
- Start Installing Steam again.
- (Not sure if this step is required) When asked about the computer ‘friendly name’ make sure you use a different name than it had before, or if you don’t remember just put a new random name.
- Restore the saved backup of NW.
- Launch the game.
Once I did this I tried to craft in Outfitting Station and got it working again.
I made 5 attempts and the results were: failed. succesfull, failed, succesfull, succesfull.
Before this I got like 20 failed attempts and not a single success.

Same issues I had last night, forced kicked out and Phoenixweave timer was triggered. Did not lose any mats though.
It works 100% of the time, if done correctly.
You have to make sure that in the background it looks like your character is crafting. If your character turns around to face you right after you engage with the crafting station, exit the station and try engaging it again.
My character turns right around %100 of the time at an outfitting station. That method does work at other crafting stations though.
My person also does so, and i cant find any solution of this.
Before helped when i setted ter1 and have materials, now it doesnt help at all also.
I’ve had this since several patches back and it is getting worse - i just want to craft ANYTHING in the outfitting station at this point. I click E - UI opens and while it does i see my char immediately turn around - it exits the crafting. Arrrrrrgh 
I have this bug, but it persists to the characters on entirely separate server locations (US East and EU Central) And this is the only station that behaves this way, I can craft, eventually, at all of the others.
This glitch has been affecting me too but i found a fix that really seems to work for me. when you enter the station and it turns you around, filter the crafting recipes for only t1, then exit the station, then go back in, and unfilter. seems to work on all the bugged stations, hope it works for you guys as well!

Except that my characters don’t turn around. They stand facing the station, doing the animation and then when I click craft the interface closes and they stop doing the animation. My characters only turn around to face the camera on the rare occasion that I actually get the ‘crafting attempt failed’ error. Plus at level 11 and 19 I only have teir 1 crafts available.
