The compass is garbage.
Half of the time it does not work for tracking things unlocked and the other half of the time when it does work you have to stare vigilantly into the compass to try to figure out what are all the icons stacked on top of each other.
The reason AGS didn’t want to implement a 2D mini map is because the UI would distract players from the game play and people would be playing a 2D game instead of the 3D game that it is.
As it is right now I am playing a 1D game (compass) instead — so it does not solve the problem. In-fact many players are actually playing a 2D web browser instead, where they are pulling up a 2nd monitor with the 2D map. The 1D compass is the worst possible type of implementation, there is a complete lack of UI/UX expertise at AGS.
If AGS really wants to avoid breaking immersion here or keep people focused on the game instead of the UI (2D or 1D), then they could have in-game integration in a 3D space of where the resources are.
For example, instead of showing them in the radar, they could highlight resources directly in 3D space and outline/silhouette them when they are occluded but in tracking range. The game already has shaders to show occluded models:

I believe LoL and either a zombie online game or AvP had tracking of bleeding targets or low health targets and they would show up as silhouettes through walls in 3D space. Plenty of examples of how this can be done right.
Summary: The compass falls significantly short to provide any use, it undermines “tracking” unlocked through progression. Sometimes I will be literally sitting on top of nuts and I still can’t find them, how bad of a tracker is that when I cant even find the nuts right beneath me? The purpose of tracking is to make it easier to find resources based on how much of an expert you are at that tradeskill, but some things are really hard to find regardless. Think iron ore during the night time. I think tracking needs to provide higher value than it does today (compass) and also go up in range based on the user’s proficiency. Until that is done, third-party 2D maps (on browser or otherwise) are way more useful.
It will be the same for all minimap mods using overwolf since overwolf will enforce on their app store the rules set by amazon to stay whitelisted.

Compass should not fail to track resources 95% of the time, I will have to relog 3833883473 times a day to get it to show them and idk when it stops showing them until I run up on something as I HAVE NOT MEMORIZED EVER NODE LOCATION IN THE GAME. For one, if you’ve been somewhere you should be able to go to the main map and add markers so you can remember how to get back and gather later, you should not have to just memorize or try to write a description on paper etc where the hell you were at a given time. Lol
when u just starting playing NW map is bad no sht but when u play since start and they remove it… idk its just about to make life harder when noone wants to play at all… not a deliberate decision
Well, so if map is not working any more there is any point to play that broken buggy game. It was last one thing which worked fine. No than k you amazon you dont know what dies mean to hear players or do good games
close the game, close overwolf and curseforge completely, run overwolf, open game, map will work again. had the issue myself and found the solution somewhere on there page i dont remember where but it worked for me

If you can’t play with the regular compass find an alternative way. If you get banned for it. Well, sucks.

Forcing? Don’t think so. I want folks to play the game the way the Devs designed it. If an overlay map is the way to go, they should include it. We either all use it or we all don’t. I don’t care either way.
Yeah well they trashed the minimap, meanwhile we can’t mark our own in game maps for things we find (stupid) and the compass does not work for me…Basically ever. If I want to relog every time it doesn’t work I’d be relogging like every 5 mins…kind of ridiculous.
If the in-game map didn’t suck completely, I wouldn’t have to use the mini map.
I literally stood a couple feet from a node, and it didn’t show up for like 5 seconds as I was running towards it. I can visibly see a node for longer time it takes for the compass to show up.
Yet, if I am running through a zone, and I come past some Herbs, they stay on the map for a long long long time until you go harvest them.
I can be half way across the zone and the map still shows the icon for the Herbs I ran past.
If the compass worked better, updated more reliably, I wouldn’t get so frustrated. I never look at the compass anymore, because it shows me nothing besides a rabbit/turkey/deer/wolf/buffalo/lynx 80ft. away from me.
It’s cool it tracks animals and all, but if I could just get some better way of displaying the nearby herbs that don’t stack icons on icons on the compass… wait, that’s called a mini-map…
