Sweet summer children in this thread thinking dex plays anything other that hatchet as secondary… I wish the devs could balance around the top wars from top companies instead of people who think bow/ spear is viable, that spear has any place in the current meta or how many debuffs they can apply to the last boss of a normal lazarus…
almost all weapon buffs do, but the heavy fort on spear does not, though i think its unintended. I really do not like that weapons do not support each other in this way. I’d like to see more synergy and depth, not less.
The fruitless chase for perfect balance is why they removed buffs staying on swap. This whole “classless” weapon system is a major fail with such an obsession over balance. What new combo will be discovered that causes more weapon nerfs next? Bummed that T&L is copying this system, it sucks compared to real classes.
It made sense when the combat system was meant to be high skill souls like combat but they’re trying to turn it into casual friendly WoW status minus the fun of unique class identity these days.
I play spear/bow and greatsword is the easiest weapon for me to beat with the spear imo, i dont lose to yall, skewer, perf, jav explosive arrow and they run with their tail between their legs, just wait til they pop onslaught stance to pump your damage, they do alot of damage but can be out damaged, make sure you dodge skyward slash, and cross cut if they run it, and its a pretty easy W, too slow.
skyward nullification and nullifying oblivion can both strip Immortality of the hatchet user, making him killable. Aside from a select few really nutty hatchet players, most players wiff all of their hatchet abilities anyways due to it being the only weapon in the game that doesnt have forward momentum with swings, and clipping with their abilities is broken, it is only good right now as a replacement for rapier as a defensive crutch weapon, but unlike the rapier in its hayday, this can be countered, therefore its not OP, it’s an L2p issue, immortality also has a long cooldown and if you run any type of DOT at all, and keep their hp low while they run, they’ll just die from the bleed, burn, poison etc.
I respect your opinion, and you are mostly right. You do. BUT. Please do not try to give me your point of view for solving problems when you sit on the bow. Pvp gameplay is between being full meelee, full range, or something between. So it’s easy to say, boom boom pew pew, explo arrow and few auto-attacks, but You are describing everything from range perspective. And this is different. Not every solution is perfect solution for everything. There are different scenarios.
Btw yea, greatsword is easier to bit with spear or rapier for example, but the fact that we and few others can deal with the problem, doesn;'t means that the problem doesn’t exists. You see, I want this game to improve and be equal and fun for everyone, not only me or few other guys. This is not the way we want to cure new world.
yea but perforate is actually a death sentence unless enemy has no stam or no abilities left.
used perforate on ice mage? They can entomb and avoid damage + rend + cleanse and get 1.4k health + full stamina back. Not to mention when they break tomb you get damaged and knockback.
used perforate on another ice mage? They can spike and knock you back + stagger you completely remove it.
used perforate on firestaff? They dodge behind you (you can’t turn at 180 with perforate consecutive attacks) and start flaming you while you miss your attacks but they get flamethrower dot + attunement + jagged 600 bleeds.
used perforate on hammer? They wrecking ball or shockwave
used perforate on axe? They maelstrom, charge, reap, whirlwind out
used perforate on rapier? free riposte hit, free flourish and finish hit
used perforate on bow? free evade shot damage + knockback + movespeed to enemy
used perforate on musket? Stopping power in your face, you get knockback + 10% slow + 10% exhaust for 10 seconds.
used perforate on greatsword? skyward removes your perforate and puts a double rend on you + disease LOL
used perforate on another gs? steadfast removes your perforate and gives them fat heal + stamina back
used perforate on a defensive gs? calamity counter and you get knocked back (this knockback btw stacks with other knockbacks and you dont get a free dodge roll)
used perforate on sword and shield? get shield bashed into heavy (removing debuff and doing so much damage), or get shield rushed, or get leap striked, or get reverse stabbed or just get blocked for 15stam damage.
used perforate on hatchet? social distancing and you are rooted while they run away
or they just hit you back with raging torrent which will do more damage than your perforate (even with fortify on)
used perforate on blunderbuss? get net shot and slowed into oblivion, or get azoth shrapnel blasted for 8k including the nade that explodes after a timer, or get blast shot if BB is running that
used perforate on VG? Get screamed and die.
EVERY SINGLE WEAPON, has 1 or more ability which hard counters perforate. Partial problem is the lack of mobility and cancel window where if you want to oiutplay someone, you cant because of animation lock.
EVERY SINGLE WEAPON mind you. All the while, you can literally single dodge away from perforate and spear is animation locked while you gain distance and the slow from melee auto dies out.
While i am not the one to ask for spear buffs, but after reading you whiner’s comments on how spear is “OP”. Spear actually is the most classy weapon i’ve played, If you’re getting dogged on by a perforate, you are getting hard outplayed because the spear player was patient to watch your stamina and your cooldowns to ensure they perforate at a time where you can’t do anything.
Imagine 1 ability so useful and so useless at the same time, you can only use it if enemy player has blown their major abilities or it puts you in jeopardy rather than allow you to play the game.

yeh I guess my biggest gripe with spear currently is the balance of other weapons, greatsword having 4 staggers and it having cleave potential makes the weapon a far better kill squad weapon in wars, 1v1 I can also clown on GS light, medium is closer and that is probably due to the greatswords access to base damage increases being massively overtuned oh and the 20% perma haste making you only able to die if you are trolling and a weapon that is impossible to get away from once you want to run. Straight up damage of bow and musket being pretty overtuned along with the haste, with BIS weapon with 3 annoying range staggers they are pretty obnoxious… I’d say in the current meta spear should have animation cancel on perforate. Who knows what AGS are planning for their balance pass.
I play melee too, sns spear, gaxe gs, hammer spear, I also play ig bb and gs bb, melee has an edge on ranged in 90% of the content NW has to offer. My main build is the bow. I don’t play from a foggy lense, I see the game in it’s entirety. And anyone who things ranged or mages are OP right now, is willingly turning the blind eye to the game that is actually played, melee piling in a million sacred grounds. Tell me how many oprs you win because you have the most ranged, get tf outta here.

Yeah, it is one of the few weapons that is balanced… and honestly it is a bit on the OP side for PvE and 1v1… But we don’t need a small buff and then a massive nerf to it two months later…
No one said it’s op, spear’s in a great spot WHEN used properly.
Yes, if you throw random perforates, you’ll be punished… THIS IS GOOD. We need more punishment windows on weapons not less. Everyone can play so defensive that combat becomes a headache if you can’t lock someone down or have ample chase abilities to catch a runner.
Pair perforate with a sweep and you guarantee 2 of 3 hits. Not to mention the bonus damage on knocked targets, plus rend, plus fortify.
. Here’s me playing spear. I have a pretty good understanding of weapon meta and spears great.
TLDW displays how well SP works against almost every weapon, I dare say balanced. 5 man organized groups chase me across the map to clear my stacks because they want those sweet cattboy cheeks
a. no other weapon gets punished harder than a spear perforate
b. all weapons with similar abilities can cancel (rapier flurry, hatchet torrent, rapid shot on bow, crosscut on gs, shooters on musket)
c. you effectively can’t use perforate unless someone has no abilities or dodges left, or they just dodge out of it.
For an ability which locks you in animation, Thats very rough^. The least Devs can do is add a bit of consistensy.
ok remove cancels from all aforementioned abilities too.
if you cancel abilities you are out of cd, so you can’t play defensive. Kinda counterinitiative but whatever.
So your assumption is
a. you HAVE to run sweep
b. sweep must be landed or perforate is useless.

not really, i watched 58 seconds and you are so bad i can’t even begin to explain.
your entire kit is dependent on landing sweep, you have 0 impact and anytime you get even a single combo hit (you dont know how to dodge) you pop beserk and start running.
All you are doing is trying to find ways to third party, thats not how spear is played. Anyone can third party with any weapon.

the time you run around with hatchet, i have impact with a bow. And i can actually fight bruisers when i dont run sweep, unlike you.
