You don’t need to land all three. Also you can force a dodge from your enemy with perforate. Managing your opponents stamina by forcing a dodge from perf is very good. If done correctly you should be able to then land one of your other spear abilities.
If you run the proper build you should have no problem missing 1 or 2 hits of perforate due to the cooldown reduction spear has baked into it.
Maybe you are running the wrong spear build or aren’t using perf properly.
But its very strong. You should consider getting good
and you’re locked in next two hits by which time they will regain the stamina as long as they keep space.
Right, enemy will just get hit by the 3m kick when they are 5 metres away because of a backwards dodge they did for perforate.
Thats not the point, the point is you rarely get hit by 3 perforates and even if you do perforate x3 counts as a single buff for “exploited weakness”, so you are not getting max damage by landing that.
sweep only gives 2 hits of perforate unless there are latency issues
your combo is predicated upon landing a knockdown and wasting ability
good spear players dont take sweep unless they are doing the sweep kick javelin rend combo which is more of a setup for bow than anything for spear.
lastly, only people with 0 braincells get hit by sweep. Its the most heavily telegraphed ability.
knockdown is coded differently, two separate damage instances remove it completely.
1 instance of damage removes a stun completely. So unless there is latency, after you hit someone knocked down 2 times, they are no longer in the stagger animation (knockdown is an extended stagger and isn’t affected by freedom)
hardly, if you take sweep you lose all the damage you get from skewer or cdr from kick depending on what you take as third and a bruiser alone will out damage you.
Anyone who fights me with sweep (without the jav combo), I Auto win. Its the most useless ability after cyclone.
Let me break this down so you can understand, hopefully…
In arena, PVE, OPR a spear can have at least 2 stacks of fortify from perforate, because it’s impossible not to hit an enemy at least twice. Hope we agree so far.
With shirking fort, a sacred ground or orb of protection you reach 50% easily. Any other weapon that can reach 50% this fast? Maybe VG, but it has higher cooldowns.
You also apply weaken for 44% and if you have a VG user or a GA, GS…you name it, that reaches 50% easily. Even if you don’t have those weapons, it’s still 44%…
On top of that you also apply rend, and deal damage. And these buffs and debuffs are up almost constantly because you have short cooldowns.
To sum it up, the spear is the only weapon that can get this much defense while being offensive with only 2 skills. There’s a reason people keep asking for spears in mutations and in arena.

yea you take kick over sweep if you wanna do damage, if you just wanna use spear for cc then you may as well run sweep javelin kick, because any other sweep build will get you killed more often than it will net you kills.

Again you are assuming you are landing all perforate hits and you are using 4-5 pieces of shirking fort. As for weapons which reach 50% fort, you can reach 30% fort with 5 pieces of shirking fort + 10/10 gems. Add fortify passives from individual trees and you get 40% fort like bow ADS with unbreakable focus, or hammer heavy, or GA heavy, or orb of protection or let it burn or on a roll or fortifying aggression, or scream or void blade or a 100 different abilities
Finally, in case you dont know and i am willing to bet you dont - Fortify has diminishing returns after 35%. Don’t believe me? Go test it before you open your mouth. At 43% fortify you have max protection after that you start to take more damage i am not sure why.
So every weapon can go fortify with proper gear. While other weapons apply disease, haste, innate slow, burn and plethora of other things spear only has rend, bleed and damage.
In case you dont know, and i bet you dont. Weaken has same effect as fortify, except after roughly 30% its got diminishing returns So BIS spears dont run enfeebling skewer on their spear unless they are clump fighting to counteract empower with 44% which is 14% more weaken than necessary.
thats it? rend bleed and damage? compare to other trees, thats minimal debuffs. Like i said stop larping.
That reason it - weaken + rend. Its different to do that to AI than its for regular players. AI will always get fully rended, no self respcting player will.
Yes, but first of all you have to land these skills, and spear is mostly single target, so imo is not OP.
If you want OP weapons just take a look on people around you. Spear users are like 1% of all players IMO.
It’s not a problem about using perforate. It should works like Rapid Shot and Crosscut, period. It’s exactly the same situation.
Spear does not need buffs, period. It is easily the most synergetic weapon in the game and the things it can do is outright amazing. I tank m10s with rapier/spear even at times depending on the mutation, in light armor because of how op spear/rapier combo is.
I do agree the animation locking is really bad and annoying and i agree that animation cancelling is horrible for balance. I do not want either of them in the game. I am ok if the animation times get lowered, but that means lots of adjustments like lower cd and less damage to maintain current damage numbers.
if we just reduce the animation time on per the attacks will by default speed up providing significantly more burst to the weapon, which could break spear in pvp.
Spear is one of the most rounded and balanced weapons in the game. Its so good. It does not need more burst.
Yes, guys. Spear is one of best weapon, if used properly, as all other weapons to be honest. The only OP weapons are hatchet defy death or BB 1 shot combo.
Second of all, I do not did say ANYTHING about spear buffs. Case is really simple guys, try to focus.
Rapid shot and Crosscut works exactly the same like Perforate skill. If Rapid shot was changed from locking animation to cancel window after 2nd hit, Crosscut has got it “original” since begining, so Why not perforate? We should make perforate works exactly the same, or change back Rapid Shot and Crosscut to also lock you in the place. Simple.
Oh and by the way, AGS even mentioned themselves thay they have to do it. It was before even Rapid Shot were changed. But I guess during months maybe they forget, it wasn’t hot topic.
But IMO perforate needs to works like Rapid Shot and Crosscut.
