I can understand not wanting an automated group finder added; but after forming a group for the first expedition yesterday I found the lack of some in-game system where people can indicate they’re looking to do the expedition very tedious and inefficient. The current everyone spam chat that they are LFG is the most inefficient possible way to form groups. More structure is definitely needed.
People wanting only overgeared/overleveled players for their groups isn’t unique to New World… it happens in every MMO sadly and once the mindset gets too entrenched players that are behind start feeling a lot of pressure to either buy boosts or just stop playing.
Also, the current repair cost/part system needs to be revised; it costs way to many coins and parts to repair gear right now. If the systems stays as is its only going to put more emphasis on groups wanting only overgeared/overleveled people.
Hello,
Please add a Group finder when possible.
The many players that already have groups / guilds / friends will not be bothered by this.
The ones like me who play solo whenever they have time will GREATLY appreciate it.
I couldn’t agree more, one of the game’s strengths is that it doesn’t just become another Instance simulator MMORPG.
I wouldn’t mind a tool like FFXIV “party finder” where you can list your group and people can join in for X activity, but even that might be pushing it too far.
I would like a group finder on any activities even if you want to have a fishing buddy. It will improve interaction with players more. It helps finding a group faster instead of spamming chat with the same text over and over until someone bother to even read them.
I don’t have time to stand at the entrance to the dungeon, hoping to shout in the chat “lfg” to find a group for the dungeon. So I disagree with the author and I want to see a group finder system in the game.
To be honest, not everything has to be like wow or your idea of mmo games needing to be like wow classic (servers are there for that game if you wanna go waste your life again there). Ques don’t need to have an interface and be across the world to join. You could have a simple system at the dungeon entrance. Which would help lower levels when the current player base is max level as no one is going to want to run amrine when they can go run dynasty. This is of course looking into the long term. Also, being 100 years old doesn’t mean anyone is lazier than you. You do realize blizzard had issues where players could not complete dungeons because they weren’t given the chance, because most people are either grouped up already or don’t care for new ppl
A group finder wouldn’t really work in NW, due to the “classless” system. How would you prevent people from queueing as healers or tanks just to bypass the wait time? Checking their equipped weapons for life staff or a weapon with a carnelian gem won’t work, since anyone can use any weapon.
I’m fine with a group finder as long as the only thing it does is put people in a group, nothing else. no x-server groups, no teleporting to dungeons, etc. Just a tool to help people get in a group without having to spam chat to do so…
Similarly, players can now change their weapons. All on trust, I don’t think players will abuse the opportunity to change weapons, and such cases will not happen often. Players are interested in going through the dungeon and not failing
I’m glad you had a good experience with FFXIVs community but that’s not anywhere near the truth.
My wife and friends have been bullied in dungeons and eventually quit. There is a reason FFXIV is also known as a “nice community”
I love FFXIV, but also want it to be clear when Blanket statements like this are made.
FFXIV community is toxic, it’s also wonderful. It’s like every game community out there.
Duty finder contributions to this, but it also allows more players to roll the dice and have a good time.
My post was talking about FFXIV in comparison to games like WOW and New World…no one said FFXIV is perfect but in “comparison” to all MMOS in the market it’s one of the best communities that exist. It has earned that reputation. New World on the other hand is such a mess. It’s going to overtake WOW very soon with the most toxic community at this rate. Racism, homophobia, sexism is running rampant In world chat on daily basis.
FFXIV toxicity is just as much as wow and new world, you might just experience it differently.
When I see people’s lives threated with their home address in ffxiv I don’t think FFXIV is more toxic, it’s just like every other game community out there
I don’t care about group finder but the best alternative is scaling the dungeon for the number of people, even solo.
If you are solo you have to do everything and learn all the mechanics. That prepares you for the group content.
SWTOR has this model where you have strict Solo for your first run for the story progress; Story mode you an solo; and then actual group Veteran and Master modes.
A flaw in the hypothesis is that you are not proving causality, but mere correlation.
What should not be forgotten, is that it may very well be that the MMO audience, on average, changed as the genre grew with the popularity of WoW. And with that, the social experience you once had, may very well not return.
In these past weeks, without dungeon finder, dungeon related talk I’ve been noticing is “Lf2m Amrine”, “LF Tank depths”, etc. There’s very little actual social interaction.
As you say yourself, gear score requirements are already happening for some as well. This is no a tool thing, it’s just a player mentality thing. Which isn’t completely odd either, there’s a lot of us who are on more limited time schedules. Just doing these dungeons as for example a quick daily or what more. Myself I’m very much in that boat. Even without a dungeon finder, I’m just in there for a quick in and out, efficiency is key when I get to play.
Just to give a glimpse of the level of social interaction I’m seeing on my server, this sort of message spam has been going on for like an hour or so already. It has actually been replacing the regular chat that used to go on.
And who said it has to be automatical finder. Just party maching, so you can create a room, people see it and pick the one they are looking for, then you will have chat and posibility to talk with them, before they accept to party. The same is in world of tanks and lineage2, no problem with this at all.
Group finders are a godsend to people who have social anxiety.
I did something like 400 dungeon runs over the course of my 6-month ESO career. If I had to actually advertise myself on zone chat or approach someone who had put out an LFG call, I probably never would have done more than the 5 or 6 dungeons that one of my guilds invited me to.
One could just tell me to ‘get over it and learn to talk to people,’ but the fact stands that I provided good quality tanking and DPS to hundreds of groups, and I did it because I was able to do it on my terms instead of being forced to socially ‘put myself out there.’
If people feel extremely strongly about keeping the dungeon system the way it is, then I know I have little room to complain because I’m mostly a solo player anyway. But I do know I have a lot to offer to dungeon groups if a group finder tool is available, and I’m sure there are a lot of other players like me.
I really don’t think that people aren’t going to be elitist about gearscore etc. just because a dungeon finder doesn’t exist. If anything, I think people are going to be more elitist and choosy once enough of the playerbase has leveled up to the point of being able to regularly grind the high level dungeons.
If it takes so long to get a dungeon group together, then you want to make damn sure that you bring only the best and most dedicated people.
I really don’t understand why some people have this thing of ‘people who like dungeon finder tools are impatient’ and it’s like a judgment on their character. I’m incredibly patient when I have to be in the process of attaining a goal that I really want - but as it stands right now, the rewards from dungeons simply aren’t worth the time that you have to put in just to enter one.
