best bet for most endgame items is to max out gathering for that item. With only 92 logging you’re gonna need to get that number higher, as you get more luck the higher your gathering skill is.
From what I’ve seen from other threads, you want all +luck gear to that specific gathering (this case lumberjack set) +200 logging + the T4 or T5 food that boosts woodcutting luck. Also, consider getting logging trophies for your house (you can have one in each of your houses, so up to 3 and those stack) upgrading them too will add to your luck stat.
With all that luck, then you’ll probably meet the requirements that one guy in this thread was talking about.
well if u read through the entire thread carefully, u will see that it got allready confirmed that the drop rates are not working as intented.
and its very simple to see this: Even tho Petrified wood etc. can be used across multiple recipes and even later on to increase i.e. the possible gear score for the item to craft, it is MANDATORY to some lower tier recipes. And it makes no sense to me at least to only be able to drop a certain ressource u would need around lvl 25, when u have everythink lined up on lvl 60…
But now, after roughly 2 weeks in and the patch that was expected to be put on today was delayed from what I read,
I´d like to reach out again to @HelpfulWalrus and ask if u have new informations to share. Since war is bugged and full of exploids that make it unplayable and outpostrush got disabled once more, I wonder if we could get at least the other core game mechanics to work. The more time u let pass on this topic the less irrelevant it will get. Since legendary drops for wood seem to be kinda ok from what i hear, its not a problem in the very late game, but on the way to that.
I literally stopped logging and engenieerung since I was sick of just being able to craft the standart recipes (+ no way to boost the possbile gear score by fitting higher mats since they dont drop), und by now after 2 weeks got lvl 53 or so without using the crafting at the rate its most likely needed (seeing the required numbers to lvl)
Hey ho, im pretty sure u guys in dev have your hands full of work with everythink that is going on.
And dont get me wrong, Im a big fan of the game itself and see the massive potencial and time and effort that went into it allready and still is put on to it since launch.
Just dont want this topic here to fall under the desk in all the hectic that is for sure going on. But its going to be almost 3 weeks since u @HelpfulWalrus confirmed that its been worked on. So at least a bit of an update ( even if its still just ongoing and no ETA to fix is avaiable ) would be really appreciated. I kinda daily (or at least my playing days) encouter this issue and get more and more frustrated about it.
Hey @Luxendra,
since u are very active right now, might I ask you about any sharable informations on the issue HelpfulWalrus posted 3 weeks ago?
Hi again everyone!
I have an update!
So far, we’ve identified an issue that can cause some of the rarer versions of what we call “core” resources (wood/metal/hide/fibers/stone) like Petrified Wood to be significantly more rare than we would like. The issue doesn’t just affect Petrified Wood so we’re digging in a little more to see what we find.
These types of adjustments require some extra design and QA attention, so right now we don’t have an ETA on this specific change that I can share. However, we are working on the issue and you can expect some tuning in the future once we’ve thoroughly tested its impact.
See you in Aeternum!

I know there is a lot going on for you guys right now and I dont want to stress to much. So if there is anythink to share, it would be great to hear
I would also like to bump this as well, there has been plenty of updates to the combat side of the game (which has been fantastic) but nothing on the side of the crafting and gathering drops
ya, ive literally only got 4 drops of petrified wood in total thru level 60 and 200 logging, this is the only 1 that drops like this, shadecloth, and fae iron drop like halloween candy. this really should have been addressed earlier since the main reason for PW is to craft a low level bow.
I just got informed by my girlfriend that she recognized a dramatic increase of drops for at least the wood related stuff after this weeks patch yesterday. I didnt got my hands on NW yesterday but will defintily today and check this out.
If this is really fixed now, that would nice no question asked, but i wonder why communication then dropped for this change even in patch notes, where i was not able to relate any given notes to a fix for this.
Just to give some feedback, thus far i didnt got too much in most efficient grinding way for core mats like Petrified Wood etc.; BUT at least i got like 1 or 2 Petrified Wood and the blue wood drop from about 2000 green wood farmed… Actually cant remember if this was actually with buff food and i have no trophy actually, so i was with my gear on 25,2% bonus drop chance, logging skill something about 120ish. i mean, at least it seems to get dropped, but cant judge if this is a fair amount.
Sry for late responding, week turned out to be a bit stressful so i didnt got much to play at all.
Just for the sake of some data:
In about roughly an hour of logging with a total bonus logging luck of 39.2% by gear + 1400 food, i didnt got any further petrified nor shadow whisp wood. Dunno what it was the last time when it both dropped pretty fast-ish compared to yet known occasions of this drop, but ya… seems the “hype” for fix was wrong.
We didnt get any further response since @HelpfulWalrus was confirming the issue a month ago as far as I can judge from looking through the forums to check for any reference for this issue, even tho there are obviously more then this one problem right now and i dont want to say they are lazy or sth ( I dont think so )
I reached out also to @Luxendra and @Kay via pm 2 days to try to make them aware of this topic, maybe it helps, maybe not, at least wont make it worse^^ (no answer to this point in time nor do i expect it, just hope for attention on the issue and a fix asap )
Sorry, other than what HelpfulWalrus said above, I don’t have any insight into this. I know that the feedback has been passed along so they are aware but in regards to a status update on any changes to be made, I don’t have any further information to share.
My character is lvl 60 with logging now at 195… and I have yet to see a single drop for petrified wood. Not one! I’ve been getting drops of higher, tier IV woods like Quilbark and Ebonwood… but still zero petrified wood. There’s now really no point even trying for it, as anything that would need it is now way too low level!
@Mcflapples I’m late to this party, but that just means your luck isn’t high enough.
I run a full logging set and I get about 1-2 Whisperwood every run and a run takes about 20-30 minutes to fill up my bags. I have 1400+ space so it takes a while.
I have 38.4% (from all my gear, and it clearly isn’t maxed) luck, I run with the T4 food which gives 1900 luck and I don’t run in a territory my faction owns but I do have a house in that territory with a logging trophy.
Now I do agree with your comment that it is less than Fae Iron and Void Metal, but I’m pretty sure that is by design because the rare hides from skinning are even less than the wood drops.
Though I do think the legendary drops are all about even all around for the T5 stuff.
@HelpfulWalrus
Woahoa … so that is a bug, with all the different types? Its not intended? So that means I’m going to be getting insane drops on all these rare things? SWEET! UBER CRAFTED GEAR TIME! I figured all the rare and epic things were just meant to be super rare.
I just wanted to share as well. I am running a logging luck trophy and a full epic logging set and logging luck food.
On an average day I cut down around 5000 young wood, 2500 aged wood, and 8000+wyrmwood.
I have a route I run in brightwood that is honestly probably well known at this point.
I’ve been running that area almost daily in my downtime. Over the course of 3 weeks I had 3 whisperwood drop and 1 petrified wood.
I’m the dude doing the full logging stuff and it is just not dropping. It seems like gathering luck gear is not working at all or at least very very little. I regret spending thousands on the gathering sets. Mining feels the same way.
I feel like it is related to the intial vs. current calculation bug that is really rampant in the game but cannot say for sure. Anyway, best of luck figuring this out, its really frustrating.
I’m 200 logging for a long time, running high GS tools with luck, luck food and 2 minor and 1 basic logging trophy. I no longer carry full logging armor set since cutting wyrdwood and ironwood for days yielded me total of 1 wishperwood drop. At the same time I got 3 void ores and hundreds of rare metals not really trying hard. As a crafter this is quite depresing. People are getting 600 drops and the cost and effort to have legendary mats + stats / perks lottery is massive.
I mean, if you are 60, 200 skill, you need to increase your mining mining watermark to get void or, right?
I’d love to know the answer to that one because if that’s how it works, then I should grind ores not because I need the ore, but because I need a higher “mining GS” basically? And if I don’t, I’d like to know too haha :xD
But do you think there is a chance for “dig a bit” what the current state of potencial changes are / at what prio this topic might be? This is an issue that seems to be since launch and recogniced a month ago (at least stated in this thread here), so a good amount being around. Way longer then other “bigger” problems, and sure u can argue that this is not a as game breaking “bug” as i.e. invunerability etc., still I wonder at how high it is on the “to work on list” (among “fixes” and not seperate work)
For me at least its surely not the “emergency fix” kind of problem, but a “high prio” to fix issue at least since it highly influces a core element of the game only in a negative way (we get less ressources and cant use all recipes, theres no + on this! ). And even tho logging especially seems to be not working at all (as intented), since HelpfulWalrus confirmed that ALL gatherings might be are part of it (at least didnt only restrict it to the Wood), it shouldnt be at a as low prio as it seems to have been the last 4 weeks.
Anyway, as I wrote, it would be nice to not stick now with “current state is: nothing new” attitude, but try to get some actuall informations what we can expect in a more near future then in half a year past or so. By then at least I guess I wouldnt care anymore.
I farmed for days trying to farm any petrified wood to make the magical ice gauntlet. I now outgrew/leveled that weapon and never got to even craft it once because I never got a drop, let alone the 4 I needed to even craft it.
Do not make it so leveling players can not make their own upgrades.
This wouldn’t be an issue if this game was alt friendly- making gear for your alt(s) is apart of what an MMO is but alts are banned with 1 per world in this game.
I just started logging (really hate grinding but that’s how games are designed to combat the mass numbers of players) using a 3.7% luck suit and an adored amulet. I went from 60 skill to 86 in Brightwood and Great Cleave and got 2 drops for whisperwood (3 and 5) and more for petrified. That’s why I’m here as I was wondering if the zone mattered. There is only so much grinding I can stand but I got the whisperwood I wanted (sells for 100 to 200 a piece on the trade). Just so I can make weapons that nobody wants and I won’t use for long. The system is interesting but it’s not well thought out since you can easily buy better stuff matching your level or get it in a drop when crafted rares should be valuable and only obtainable with stats that can’t be found anywhere else.
