It’s been a while since the last thread on this but I’m curious if AGS is aware of how many people have to use Nvidia inspector to lower the quality of the game below what the game allows just to get stable performance. This isn’t anything new but I would love to see performance addressed in upcoming patches.
I have a 2070 super, 32GB ram and a Ryzen 7 2700x, with the game on an m.2 nvme drive, and can barely get 40FPS in wars and OPR with the lowest settings, and still suffer from major stuttering in those game modes as well. I know there are many others like myself in this scenario too. Please continue to work on optimizing the games performance.
It’s not just me either, you can watch plenty of youtube vidoes of war vods or OPR clips and people have their graphics way turned down because for many people it’s the only way to get 60+ FPS
i run on a better system and have the same issues. and its not just a handful of people. literally almost everyone i ever played wars with is saying the same thing.
apart from wars this game is plagued by horrible desync and lag. for example you get 2 huge lags whenever a respawn point is created or destroyed in opr. you can see it in basically every stream on twitch. people just accepted it at this point but id really like to see this being worked on.
i run every other game without any problems. i always turn down games to lowest quality (old habit i guess) but in NW i really have to in order to play competitive pvp. thats not really how it should be.
New World has two basic problems that are commonly referred to as “performance” problems.
Desync
Since the engine unfortunately works with UDP packets, desync occurs very often. In addition, New World seems to have a very low tick rate, i.e. how often the client synchronises with the server.
General performance / FPS
New World unfortunately has an extreme CPU bottleneck. The problem always becomes apparent when there are many players in the vicinity (city/OPR/war).
Even the most powerful CPUs currently available reach their limits and can no longer supply the graphics card with sufficient data, which means that even with an i9-13900KS or a Ryzen9-7950X3D you have FPS drops to below 60 FPS in New World.
The current PTR patch optimises various shadow calculations, which is at least a first step. Basically, however, AGS urgently needs to optimise the parts that create such a load on the CPU when there are many players in the area.
When this problem is solved, the deysnc will also be better because the CPU can take better care of the network packets, but the netcode should still be improved considerably.
P.S. I have with a 5800X3D and a 4090 in OPRs 40-70 FPS on 4K, but also on FHD and Settings Low nothing changes +/- 5 FPS → CPU Bottleneck or Engine Bottleneck
@Pelhi In your case the CPU is the bottleneck, not the 2070. What RAM Speed do you have and do you have DOCP /XMP enabled?
Yeah I figured that my CPU is the bottleneck as its the oldest part in my build, and the 5800X3D is my dream CPU, so it’s nice to hear that you’re able to get it to run well with that build. I have XMP enabled and its running at 2933 MHz. I’ve tried running it at 3200 MHz but my PC doesn’t like it when I do lol.
