Players getting out of knockdown in pvp

Thank you!!!

Listen, this is not a bug! And it’s not a desync issue.

The game does a very poor job of explaining this, but there is a system in place that prevents players from continuously being CC’ed and rewarding the player - independant from their currently equipped armor weight - a free Light Roll Dodge.

This only applies if the second action is a knockdown or stagger effect (doesn’t work on stun or Root). If you want to test this out go to a place with a lot of mobs that stagger, use heavy armor and let yourself hit multiple times and while staggerlocked press dodge. You’ll see that even in heavy armor, you get a free light roll that does not consume any stamina. You can also test this with a friend using a spear with the same combo from your video.

In the case of Spear, you can (for some reason) prevent this DR mechanic triggering by dodging in between the first action (Kick Stun) and second Action (Knockdown from Swipe), since it’s not being counted as “continuous” actions in that case.

As an Alpha Player I know about these mechanics, but the game really needs to do a better Job at explaining these things to the players that didn’t play the Alpha to not create any confusion.

I feel dumb, because I’ve experienced the exact thing you are talking about(free roll while wearing heavy or med)) and assumed it was an animation bug.

I dont feel too dumb though, since afaik, you are correct about the game not making it clear that this is a feature.

I continue to enjoy this game immensely, but it is a fact that i literally cannot tell the difference between bugs and features sometimes. I’m not even sure that i am complaining about this tbh. It’s just funny.

First time i saw the VG dash, i legit was unsure if it was intended behavior, not having played with the weapon much. And I’ll be sad when it is gone, not because it is OP(its not) but because actually using and perfecting the dash is a fun skill based mechanic.

Damn, I clearly remember dodge rolling while I was wearing full heavy months ago and never understood why.

I’ll try doing this for sure. I usually try to chain stun-knockdown cause the spear stun is short but I think if timed right I can roll behind the target.

Oh absolutely. I never read what you said anywhere. It really should be explained somewhere.

Thanks for the infos

They originally introduced this mechanic in response to the Preview Feedback to help players to get out of a staggerlock that was happening pretty frequently at the time due to all attacks from players staggering AI and other players. After they removed the stagger from pretty much all attacks, they kept that DR mechanic in the game. And I’m honestly not even sure if the developers themselves know that this is still in the game.

@BRADLEY We appreciate your vast knowledge in this area. We completely understand this and we know of the current issue with the game mechanics, however, the report we have made to the team is concerning the mechanics as a whole regarding why this issue is occurring. We have also noted that with intended mechanics, there should be information provided to players informing them why something is happening the way it is in the game. This is critical feedback you have provided and will only benefit all of our players and it is truly appreciated that you are here to help where you can and we will do our part in trying to make this information reach our players easier.

I’m about to do some OPR and see but in the meanwhile I tested in duel and you definitely don’t get that “free” roll. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a duel and not “real” pvp.

Yea, it might possibly not work in duels just like a lot of other mechanics like the lifesteal on the “Reap” ability from Greataxe that are broken in duels but otherwise work in other PvP situations.

An easy way to test it is to go to a place with a lot of mobs that have a stagger and let yourself hit a couple of times and you’ll see that it triggers every time. A spot where I mostly encounter this nowadays is when I farm Weapon mastery at the Oceanview post in Restless Shore (Mob Grinding Pirates).

its called lag.
to some, its also known as desync.
its when your pc registered the knockdown, but the signal of ur opponent dodging didn’t reach u in time.
and when the signal/data finally reaches you, they teleported to somewhere else.

happens when u have high ping/server lag.
you can recreate this by having one player use a cc skill while the other use dodge at the exact same time.
to the person using CC, itd show they have successfully cc’ed the other player, while the other player would show they’ve successfully dodged the cc.
depending who recieve the signal first, most of the time by having lower ping, will result in their benefit.

the amount of people not knowing about the breakout mechanic in this thread was very worring

people really don’t pay attention at all during combat it seems

the audio and the blue glow around your character that it does when it activates should be enough to understand that this is something the devs put in so no idea where people got that it’s a desync or hacks :joy:

the fact u think there’s such thing as breakout mechanic LOL

press “a,a,b,b,left click right click” to break out of knockdown/root/stuns
or
spam “a, d, a, d, a, d” to trigger breakout

cute <3

you joking right? :woman_facepalming:

yeah u gotta spam “a, d, a, d, a, d” repeatedly to trigger breakout mechanic to instant roll away from kncokdowns/roots/stuns

has to be multible CCs or staggers within a window

u’re confused with stuns.
u get out of stuns by taking any form of dmg , excluding dots.
therefore multiple ccs helps u get out of stun if the first cc that hit u was a stun.
plus, what u’re describing, sounded more like a glitch/bug than “breakout mechanic”

why u so cute

i’m sorry where did i say stun? or do you think stun is the only CC in this game

i can’t tell if you trolling or are just one of those people but i must thank you for reminding me why i stopped going into these forums

Bradley already explained how the mechanic works

I mean, I never played spear (never had two CCs available), and I’m ranged so pretty much all the time out of the group combat. I noticed right away the blue aura and the sound, but the game not giving me any infos about this left me (and many others) in the blind. It’s the game’s fault, not the player’s imho.

well yes game should have explained this better but what i meant about this being the player is
that they should atleast know that this isn’t a bug or hacks or dysync from the sound and the blue aura.

Now not knowing how the mechanic works is understandable

even in the patch notes they added it in they gave a very vauge explanation of how it works

idon’t know if you watched the video from OP
it was 1v1.
do u see multiple CCS stacking? that triggered the so called “breakout mechanic”?
to me, it looks like the guy spammed “a,d,a,d,a,d” to activate it.

I was dubious but everyone talked about desync so I was like “ok, must be that then”…
