Idk about you, but I had a pretty good handle on this games pvp pretty quickly. It was mostly just adjusting every time they fixed a huge bug like when resilience and onyx gems were doing more than they were supposed to. This games pvp is really, really simple.
That’s the difference between good and bad players kid, rangeds that attack from that far away (besides musket) are useless ![]()
Muskets absolutely need to be tweaked. Bow is fine as it sits once the hit box bug is fixed. But melee also isnt difficult. shirking fort and freedom are literally idiot proof mode for melee players
Understand, that’s an intentional choice.
There is no particular aspect inherent to this game that makes balancing impossible.
The devs aren’t interested in a balanced game because they’re not trying to be a good combat game. They’re trying to be a hype mainstream MMO game.
The day that they nerf melee homing + medium armor dodge is the day that a lot of melee players become dog water suddenly:p
Strongly disagree. They have some pretty cool dudes working on balance, the problem is, they dont play past potato skill level. Very hard to balance a game that you really do not understand as you dont play at a high skill level.
Yeah, that’s a thing about it
Meeles are strong in point fights, they can deal real good Aoe DMG and CC
Now they are even stronger to chase ppl, and with a low skill needed
That’s the point of the post.
Great Axe was used in example because of how complete it still set is. The weapon can do everything
I think that you have a valid point but present it in a way that looks suspiciously like you just want to dumpster people as ranged.
Balanced for who?
Most of the players play at potato level.
The game is clearly not balanced for high-level small-scale play, which is what most competitive players would naturally be looking for. The dev team knows what they’re doing, which is why nearly every patch finds ways to lower both the skill-floor and the skill-ceiling in the game.
If most of the players are bad, balancing around high level play alienates a large chunk of your playerbase because the reality is they’ll never choose to improve. So AGS makes the game easier by adding better melee tracking, increasing ranged hit boxes, and continually adding new tools to inflate the performance of the low-performers.
These devs have chosen a direction, and that direction isn’t interested in high-level competitive play. Hell, I don’t even think we’ll be seeing a ranked PvP system any time soon.
But we’ll get leaderboards, so congratulations ![]()
Show the world how much influence you can push or how well you stat-pad in OPR!
These leaderboards are an absolute joke and 100% wasted time and resources. If there is no MMR tied to said leaderboards and matchmaking based off said MMR, they are a waste. Dont know wtf they were thinking by adding these boards that just encourage more stat padding
That’s why I wrote that I don’t want to nerf meeles to the ground, just find a way to make it more difficult to catch a ranged player.
And please nerf the bow movespeed too xD
They just intentionally made it this way, on purpose xD. Like the changes were intended to make ranged not have an infinite escape.
Clearly, it’s working. (Though mages might have gotten the poop end of the stick)
In my opinion the escape capacity of a light ranged player should be stronger than it is now, but in two conditions:
One is that every ranged player that want to deal significant damage should not have points in const like 50-100 max, that would make things more punitive.
Other condition is that long range musket should be highly nerfed or that kind of gameplay will be impossible xD.
It’s funny you say that,
Constitution should add weight, and make us fatter (also adding to poise)
Same as STR should add weight, (muscle weight)
This way poise would lead to both tanks, and heavy bruisers having grit, while taking it away from light low con melee.
Dexterity could be a way to add mobility and attack power without the weight of STR, meaning DEX could afford to stack some con.
I think that mages should get a new 300 attribute talent for int. Like convert their dodge into a “phase shift”, the ultimate magic dodge.
I know they can get this right, i think poise and weight are the way to navigate it and get it right. And mages deserve their own movement changes.
Depends on your armor. In medium/heavy - yea its simple. In light - no matter if you range or mele - its whole different game couse 1 mistake and you die most of the time.
Every MMO needs a couple of noob friendly classes (weapons in this case) to cater the widest playerbase possible. The root of the problem lies imo, in the fact that every minor change in combat affects both PvP and PvE.
PvE combat is kind of a “practical puzzle” with the enemy AI attack patterns, a few mechanics, big pool of HP and some resistance/weakness. Once you got the knowhow and the correct tools, its easy content due to its rigidness.
PvP combat is more “tactical” and organic. You go out there planning your build and tools based on a lot more information, and that same information is (and should always be) ever changing.
Players have different playgrounds than monsters but they follow almost the same rules. You can see a few big problems spreading out the root that mixes pvp and pve together, like this thread and the recent 300 INT and Fire Staff threads asking for revamps. Mages are not welcomed in Mutated Expeditions (hell, even on regular expeditions are a rare sight) because they don’t dish enough damage, but if they were to deal “too much” you would see folks complaining in pvp. And healing… well, healing is a beast on its own.
Anyways, thats only my opinion and of course, YMMV.
It’s simple in medium too. Hop, light, light, hop, light, hop, light lol.
And heavy is just turtling mostly if you’re using a SNS.
I said both armors make pvp simpler. Light armor is only one that makes pvp more demanding couse you have more mobility while in same time 1 mistake can kill you.
The problem is the game can never have a high skill cap because noobs players come in the forums and cry about things when they get destroyed. The amount of people still crying about FS and flamethrower can hopefully show AGS that these people can just be ignored as they are the type to blame everyone but themselves for a loss.
If AGS would just add cross server and skill based match making all of this would go away. The sweaty more skilled players can play with each other while the noobs can play in noob lobbies and not get destroyed 1v3 by some sweat lord that causes them to go cry in the forums for nerfs.
That’s not really true. You can be pretty tanky in light armor. I had a certain build that I really liked on my main that utilizes enfeebling skewer(on spear) for 44% weaken + fortifying perforate. And full resil/freedom. Some elemental aversion in there as well. It was an extremely tanky light armor build.
My point is that combat in general isn’t very complex in new world.
