Adding hippos, sorry Hippos, would help a lot with animal diversity. Every area has alligators, that gets boring seeing the same animals all the time. Replace some of these alligators with hippos, sorry did it again, Hippos.
Imagine your half way through wading through a large pond (is a large pond a lake?) and you see bubbles come up in the water. The panic that you would feel knowing that an attack was about to happen from a mighty Hippo
