The obvious observation after the announcement that “items obtained prior to the patch” would be grandfathered in, is “well now this will create a bunch of ‘pre-patch’ items of high value”. Can you please clarify if this was referring only to bound items, or literally every item created/looted in the economy prior to the patch?
Your expertise is for item types and gets applied when you bind it. Hence a 600gs item would go down to 580gs if that is your expertise level. You have an expertise rating for each item slot so it’s not really the item it’s your expertise level for that slot that affects the items relative rating if that makes sense.
So I think based on this, items you just keep in your storage or on the trading post to sell after the patch hits won’t be grandfathered, right? Since binding the item is what causes it to be affected by your expertise level?
Exactly, it’s not the item that has an expertise level it’s the gear slot which is specific to you. So the same item will go to a variety of levels (including it’s listed GS) based on the player that slots it.
Also, there is nothing to grandfather with non-bound items. They are their listed gear score until slotted.
Makes sense to me. OP’s question seemed to be about whether they could sell their non-bound stuff for a higher premium because it was pre-patch, why I was asking.
What is your source for this info? Obviously what you’re saying is a possibility as I acknowledged, but their blog post was ambiguous so I’m wondering if someone knew for sure.
(If an item only scales with your GS when bound, what happens to my grey gs590 axe?
)
It’s new world so no one knows for sure lol. I’m just going off all the blogs update notes etc. Obviously, the update hasn’t come out yet and they are already making changes so we will see. But generally speaking, any changes made to a weapon happen when you slot it so the weapons themselves are what they say they are and only change when a player slots them. Similar to how damage changes when you slot based on your attribute settings. So pre/post update buying-selling is irrelevant as non-bound items are what they are until slotted.
What’s grandfathered in is items you bought (and bound I think) pre-update. So they say haha.
