Please consider additional uses for Expedition Materia

Hey!

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one with a storage that looks like this:
materia

I think the addition of Materia to craft named items was a great idea. However, if you run expeditions/mutations often, you’ll end up having any and all named drops, with no use left for Materia apart from taking up storage space.

So, why not allow us to use it for something else too?

Examples would be:

  • Converting Materia to resources (Orichalcum Ingots, Ironwood Planks, etc.)
  • Converting Materia to crafting mods (this would also be a very good solution to the scarcity of certain mods, and the skyrocketing prices after the introduction of Golden Scarabs)
  • Converting Materia to Territory Standing
  • Converting Materia to boxes with region-specific Furnishing (thx @Nourri!)

For anyone concerned with balance, it could also be a poor conversion rate, this is mostly so we have something to do with it, instead of just taking up storage space.

What do you guys think?
If you have any other ideas about potential conversions, I’ll edit them in

Rather convert it to reagents.

No need to farm any ressources if u get them via dungeons aswell…

Yes, it was a great idea adding the materia. But I think that the requirements to craft anything are absurd.

You need 5000 dungeon materia to craft any weapon and that means u need at least 20 runs (taking into account u get around 250 materia per run)

In those 20 runs u probably have all the drops, so it makes no sense to use materia to craft. They probably have the data to know how many people actually craft stuff with materia, but I would say that no many.

So to begin with, I think the amount of materia to craft items should be reduced a little bit.

On the other hand, I would flip the mutator materia to be the main one to craft specific mutator stuff:
From 5000 expedition materia and 1000 mutation materia to 5000 mutation materia and 1000 expedition materia

So it would give mutation materia more value

I still think it also need another use for it. No matter how much Materia it costs to craft named items or how many expeditions you run a week, since there’s only a limited number of named items, you’ll get at a point where you have all you could get and Materia is completely useless.

Reagents already costs cents on the TP because there’s too many of them coming from chest runs. I would rather offer a similar conversion to that of armor fragments/scraps, where you need a considerable amount to craft a very small amount of resources. That shouldn’t have a major impact on the cost of resources.
In any case, having more resources on the market, at a slightly lower price, would have the added advantage of making botting less profitable.

Furnishing would be awesome.

Ty! Adding “Region-specific furnishing items”

I decided to craft some stuff with excess materia I had left from before leaving months ago. Turns out a few of the expeditions I have materia for don’t craft 590 items, what the hell am I supposed to do with low level trash?

at least let us convert them to armor/weapon/etc fragments

In typical AGS fashion they implemented a great idea in a asinine manner
By the time one earns enough materia one has already found the item
If one can find enough people to run that many expeditions with in the first place considering how bare and basic group finder is

Great…!!!

Like we already are in urgent need for decent gold sink, salt sink, faction token sink and now it seems we need materia sink also. AGS seems to not have a grip on the economy overall. New features are cool and stuff but most of them seem dead ends.
