Please get rid of mutation orbs

@Branino We appreciate you creating this thread with such valuable feedback for us. This is not the first thread that speaks of the removal of the mutation orbs. We know this system has been a bit difficult to deal with and the team has been provided with a lot of feedback concerning this topic. We will make sure your feedback, reaches them too!

Once again, we appreciate your efforts in sharing your thoughts about the mutation orbs and we want to let you know that we are always listening!

I realize there’s no way i can convince you otherwise (literally have “grind” in your username)…

But it’s bad design, bad community building to encourage bad and unhealthy behaviors in a video game, app, or any software really. There is a whole field of study around this. Research it, or don’t. But it’s a net-good for everyone, and yourself personally, to limit how much you can spam and grind mutations.

Yeah its great to nanny adults and tell them how much they can do something. You need a serious hard look into the way you think. Absolutely Disgraceful.

The only games which do this are mobile games. The reason behind that is to make money from selling you the convenience to bypass it.

people already have maxed out their gear, its a flawed system. And guess who? the players owning ww/ef. The system is absolutely garbage and needs to go, let the players play the game. There’s no time gates on dungeons in world of warcraft, runescape, bdo, eso and they are all doing just fine.

This is completely false, most if not all MMO’s including WOW time gate their raids or high end content so people can’t just spam it.

He said dungeons. Mythic+ dungeons in wow are not gated and can be run infinitely.

As for raids in WoW the LFR, Normal, and Heroic modes are loot locked to once a week, but you can still run them as much as you want.

There are a couple of issues on Dynasty.

  1. The itemization is messed up. Many items don’t have three perks in legendary mode. Also many of the items are less valued by the community than in other mutations. This leads to less motivation and hoarding of orbs.

  2. The current difficulty has more failures in M1 which leads to less orbs available in higher tiers.

If the orbs were more freely available (not free) groups would be more freely available. As it is with the current implementation people are a lot more cautious with orb use. This leads to less people enjoying the content.

I saw one good idea on reddit that suggested why not make mutation orbs a small chance to drop out of doing regular orbs. This would drive more people into the regular runs in search of the mutation orbs.

I think what you meant was you would have people playing more, because it was fun. Of course there are still a bunch of people that quit, because the expertise system entirely locked them out of mutations. People who have fun, and play a lot are also usually more inclined to buy skins.

I don’t think its the difficulty that results in most people not running it. I believe its the extreme lack of loot in comparison.

no timeless shards
no gypsum
Quality of the loot is significantly inferior to the other two expeditions.

all of this adds up to people wanting to save orbs for a more rewarding expedition given they are limited.

Yes. I would run dynasty if I wasn’t punished by wasting an orb on it. I would probably enjoy the challenge too. As it stands its not worth it. Remove orbs and I would run it.

Wait until you find out that the progress resets on each week or that you’ll have to do laz from 1 again.

Then time gate it for everyone. You get 2 runs per week then you are locked out and can’t run anymore whether you have a key or not.

Currently it’s only time gates for some people.

I don’t think that is true. I believe progress is tied to each dungeon. If you finished m6 for Laz then you have an m6 codex for Laz.

That would be nice.

That’d be great if, you know, normal dungeons weren’t also time gated. I don’t know why they are time gated. Since there is nothing else to do, I buy a dps slot in regular dungeon runs any time I can. I have done quite a few of them and still do not have a 600 smooth bone ring, 600 whatever the earring is called, etc. No 600 Will of the Ancients. You get the idea. The RNG involved in getting one of these items seems very low, and I don’t know why that alone can’t be considered the “gate”.

I agree, the orbs must be more freely available however this gives another opportunity to get them and it supports the existing system as well.

what… no this is dumb… we want it hard, I want it hard I want more keys thats it… please dont cater to the casual player…

HOWEVER –

YOU NEED TO PUT IN ACTUAL LOOT IN DYNASTY THERE IS NONE… NOT OH THERES A LITTLE>> THERE IS NO LOOT IN DYNASTY AND ITS PROB THE HARDEST MUT

This is exactly the solution I propose in my OP , its not to get rid of the time-gating, I think time-gating is fine, as far as its the correct thing being gated.

Currently, you are gating entry into the dungeon, but actually the devs want to make sure that we don’t all get to 625 in the first few days. This means what needs to be gated is the reward, not the entry into the dungeon.

As you have indicated, other MMOs already do this, gating the reward for the MMO to once a week, or in this case, maybe a bit more per week , this way if I want to help someone else or if I want to keep running the content, not caring about the rewards, then I can do so. Many would still just do it until they can get rewards, and then wait for the cooldown.

It’s kind of tough for me to think like this. I don’t think the dungeons should be gated at all. If you think about WoW, and mutations are a rip off from WoW, they don’t gate the dungeons or the rewards at all. It still works.

M+ in WoW is the most popular form of content. There are no gates. Yet there is no worry that people will stop playing in a week. It shows that no gates are needed. So then why gate?

I ran dungeons everyday in WoW. I also raided. I also did other things the game has to offer. I also made alts and ran them through dungeons as well. I cant do that in New World. I cant run dungeons whenever I want. I cant make alts. Obviously alts are less meaningful in NW even if I could. The closest thing to a raid is the Zerg chest run and that’s no raid.

A community manager asked me what people would do if there were no gates and they finished dungeons in a week. My answer is what do they do when they can’t do dungeons at all? The only reason to gate people is because they aren’t confident enough in their content. If they aren’t confident enough in their content to keep people then that is their own doing. Its a design flaw and too soon of a release.

I want a game that I want to waste my time in, not a game that wastes my time. Thats all New World is. A beautiful world that is designed to waste peoples time. Instead they should have designed a fun, rewarding game that people want to waste their time in. Time gates are an archaic method of artificially keeping people playing longer that people got tired of 15 years ago.

I think its kind of unreasonable to expect New world to have the same amount of content as a game that is nearly 17/18 years old.

And like you said Raid content is loot locked to once a week, and I believe Dungeons in New World would be similar to raids in WOW . And I don’t mean based on how many people can participate at a time, but based on the rewards we get from it , you get the best rewards (in terms of gear) from dungeons/mutations , similar to how you get the best gear loot from Raids in WOW.

Given that, yes, there is a lack of content in New World, and it will take a long time for new content to come out. Blaming them for releasing too early or such, will not help in anyway. I want New World to succeed, because I like the game, and I want people to stay in the game so that I can enjoy it with others.

Also, a reason for the time-gates is so that semi-hardcore players have a small chance to catch up to the super hardcore (no-life) players, with time-gates like that those who play a few hours a day will not completely fall behind those who play more than 12-18 hours a day, and also discourage playing so much every day.
