Yes. I would run dynasty if I wasn’t punished by wasting an orb on it. I would probably enjoy the challenge too. As it stands its not worth it. Remove orbs and I would run it.
“I saw one good idea on reddit that suggested why not make mutation orbs a small chance to drop out of doing regular orbs. This would drive more people into the regular runs in search of the mutation orbs.”
That’d be great if, you know, normal dungeons weren’t also time gated. I don’t know why they are time gated. Since there is nothing else to do, I buy a dps slot in regular dungeon runs any time I can. I have done quite a few of them and still do not have a 600 smooth bone ring, 600 whatever the earring is called, etc. No 600 Will of the Ancients. You get the idea. The RNG involved in getting one of these items seems very low, and I don’t know why that alone can’t be considered the “gate”.
This is exactly the solution I propose in my OP , its not to get rid of the time-gating, I think time-gating is fine, as far as its the correct thing being gated.
Currently, you are gating entry into the dungeon, but actually the devs want to make sure that we don’t all get to 625 in the first few days. This means what needs to be gated is the reward, not the entry into the dungeon.
As you have indicated, other MMOs already do this, gating the reward for the MMO to once a week, or in this case, maybe a bit more per week , this way if I want to help someone else or if I want to keep running the content, not caring about the rewards, then I can do so. Many would still just do it until they can get rewards, and then wait for the cooldown.
It’s kind of tough for me to think like this. I don’t think the dungeons should be gated at all. If you think about WoW, and mutations are a rip off from WoW, they don’t gate the dungeons or the rewards at all. It still works.
M+ in WoW is the most popular form of content. There are no gates. Yet there is no worry that people will stop playing in a week. It shows that no gates are needed. So then why gate?
I ran dungeons everyday in WoW. I also raided. I also did other things the game has to offer. I also made alts and ran them through dungeons as well. I cant do that in New World. I cant run dungeons whenever I want. I cant make alts. Obviously alts are less meaningful in NW even if I could. The closest thing to a raid is the Zerg chest run and that’s no raid.
A community manager asked me what people would do if there were no gates and they finished dungeons in a week. My answer is what do they do when they can’t do dungeons at all? The only reason to gate people is because they aren’t confident enough in their content. If they aren’t confident enough in their content to keep people then that is their own doing. Its a design flaw and too soon of a release.
I want a game that I want to waste my time in, not a game that wastes my time. Thats all New World is. A beautiful world that is designed to waste peoples time. Instead they should have designed a fun, rewarding game that people want to waste their time in. Time gates are an archaic method of artificially keeping people playing longer that people got tired of 15 years ago.
I think its kind of unreasonable to expect New world to have the same amount of content as a game that is nearly 17/18 years old.
And like you said Raid content is loot locked to once a week, and I believe Dungeons in New World would be similar to raids in WOW . And I don’t mean based on how many people can participate at a time, but based on the rewards we get from it , you get the best rewards (in terms of gear) from dungeons/mutations , similar to how you get the best gear loot from Raids in WOW.
Given that, yes, there is a lack of content in New World, and it will take a long time for new content to come out. Blaming them for releasing too early or such, will not help in anyway. I want New World to succeed, because I like the game, and I want people to stay in the game so that I can enjoy it with others.
Also, a reason for the time-gates is so that semi-hardcore players have a small chance to catch up to the super hardcore (no-life) players, with time-gates like that those who play a few hours a day will not completely fall behind those who play more than 12-18 hours a day, and also discourage playing so much every day.
I do not think its unreasonable. If you are talking about alllllll the content through 17/18 years then yeah, obviously. However look at a game like SWoTR or Rift and see all the content they released with and patched in during their first updates. It blows NW out of the water in content, performance, and less bugs/more fixes that actually fixed.
This part is true that New World does not have raids, so their 3 dungeons is the top PVE content. Again, that is not a me problem. That is a problem with their design and release too soon problem. However, you also get the best loot from dungeons in WoW. Some pieces are actual best in slot and better than the raid gear. Most pieces are equivalent to Mythic raiding. Still no gates. You also get chances at mounts and achievements and other things in dungeons. Still no gates. In NW it could drop some BIS pieces but for the most part you are getting randomized junk that nets you 3 repair parts and 3 gold.
I also want it to succeed. Their archaic philosophies of heavy grinds and time gates are not going to make it succeed. It hurts them in players and it hurts them in development. All the patches we have gotten in 4 months have been bandaids to further add grind and more gates. All of them. 4 months of them spending time doing nothing but trying to slow players down. I wonder what content they could have created in 4 months time if they weren’t focused on slowing people down.
And this is another place the archaic method fails. It doesn’t get the hardcore at all. They are already 625. They were 625 week one. In the meantime everyone else is gated. It just drives more people away. Never balance a game around the sweaty’s. There is no stopping them. All it does is ensure the casual players will leave because they will never get anywhere in a grind fest time gated game like this.
This would not have been possible if it was the way I indicated in my original post , where instead of the content being gated, its the rewards that are gated. And its not just WOW , a lot of games have the time-gates on rewards , another example would be Lost Ark, most of the end game dungeons and raid’s rewards are time-gated, for some you get best reward twice a day, and then you get diminishing rewards every-time you complete it after that, similarly there are multiple raids or dungeons whose reward you can only receive once a day or week.
Again, WoW does not time gate rewards from dungeons. The rewards in M+ are some of the best in game. 99.9% of the loot in NW dungeons are garbage. There is no reason to gate garbage. Yes, you can get some legendary pieces that are BIS but that doesn’t change the fact that you are mostly getting RNG garbage. I got my first legendary weapon in a dungeon last night. Its good but its still not even BIS. The other thing WoW does is allow you to trade loot between party members that were in the dungeon with you. I got Will of the Ancients. I am never going to heal ever. Its vendor fodder. Meanwhile my group healer has never seen this drop.
For the record, I don’t feel your proposal is bad. Its definitely better than not being able to do the dungeons at all. It seems like a fair compromise but I am tired of AGS version of compromise because their version of compromise goes like this…
December patch announcement… you must grind expertise or your gear will only be as good as your watermark.
Compromise… ok gear you have now or craft yourself will be of value. Future gear is halfway between top level and current expertise.
One month later… gear score is being raised so now you must grind expertise.
You can’t make this stuff up man. They literally tried to say they were compromising with people only to sneak in the change a month later in a different way. Thats not compromise. Thats trying to fool the player base with smoke and mirrors. Its deceptive development. So no, from now on I want the whole meat and potatoes.
Orbs don’t expire, instead they become depleted and require azoth to refill. (effectively turning them into keys). They deplete after a failed run (you will need to create conditions for that but i recommend worst then silver being failed).
Orbs are not required for normal dungeons (and buff their exp gains).
I am 99% sure that after 20 years of experience in design these changes will fix the orb system beyond any major complaints.
M+ in wow is not comparable to mutations in NW at all. M+ is not completed in two days because it is gated behind skill, execution, and a bit of gear. New world mutations are only hard because of the gear score scaling of the mobs.
no, i literally mean, people finishing and capping out the content in under a week then going WHERE R U CONTENTZ!?>!? I don’t think they meant for their content to be done in under a week of real time.
