Please hug your art team...new loading screens

Man, how did I not know he was the director? That makes SO much sense.

Just want to add my agreement here - LOVE the art on the loading screens. Makes loading so much more enjoyable.

The art team really make New World what it is. Except “Helmet Guy”. No, actually, EVEN Helmet Guy.

The music it’s amazing I love it, the schetches thou I think they don’t fit the game in my oppinion, I liked the oldest ones better.

Agree. The cinematics and loading screens are amazing. The store skins are still ugly as F.

Ramin Djawadi is a genius.
He caught the attention of Hans Zimmer very early on his career (Gladiator, Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean).

Fully agree, a big thank you!

I suggest browsing NW`s artists profiles on Artstation.
(also to @Liv)

I couldn’t find the new loading pages yet, but there are a lot of Aeternum landscape and environment in 1920x1080.

i’ll be the one person who disagrees, most of the new concept art load screens barely qualify as professional work. Most of them look like fanart tbh. A couple of them are good. Most are mediocre. A few are just bad.

I’m in the video graphics industry for over 35 years now, I’ve met dozens of computer graphic artists, and all the loading screens I have seen are professional quality drawings. The proportions are perfect, as well as the coloring in that specific “concept art” style.
If anything, you can dislike that style of drawing, that’s an opinion, but saying it’s not professional work is just ridiculous, thus my first answer.

I’ll admit, I was probably being a little extreme with my critique. But a AAA game should have AAA art. And I’m sorry, but a lot of this work falls short.

I really don’t care that you’ve been in the “video graphics industry” for 35 years. The fact that you think all of the proportions are perfect means there is really no discussion to have here. Most of them? Totally fine. But even one wonky, too-short arm is too many. You’re judged by the weakest piece in your portfolio, after all.

Also, “concept art” isn’t a “style”, but I think I understand what you meant. As it happens, the comic book style that was chosen for a lot of these screens does not fit with the rest of the game at all. In my opinion. But I agree, that does not make the art look unprofessional. The poor proportions and linework do that.

Again, not in all of them. Most are fine, a couple are really quite good (i recall the anubis-looking enemy for instance stood out to me), but a few should have never made it to live. It’s whatever. I’m not saying the artists are bad, I know how many hours they put into even the weaker drawings. But some of them could use polish. And again, the entire comic book style just doesn’t work in this context, for me.

It didn’t work for The Witcher when their artists did it either. Argue all you want, but choosing the most fitting art style for a project is a part of quality professional production art, and someone dropped the ball here. In my opinion.

I just think there is a time and a place for hand drawn art, and it better be stellar or else it looks like garbage. There is very little middle ground.

At least the loading screens aren’t as bad as some of the new hand drawn cutscenes, which were clearly done last minute and really are just bad.

That’s part of the magic of art actually, everyone has a different opinion about it.
Thankfully you are in the minority. Which makes it easy for me to agree… to disagree.

I advise you have a look at the art book that came with the deluxe edition of the game, you can probably find it on the web since it’s just a PDF file. Those guys are professionals, no doubt about it. There are many things to critic about this game, but the whole art team, be it graphics or sound/music, is definitely not part of them.

You must just stop thinking that disliking the style makes art bad and non professional. For instance, I’m not a fan of Picasso at all and I don’t like his style, but the guy was a genius with a huge talent.
