Actually, Iāve been a software engineer for the last 30 years, so Iām pretty sure that I have a handle on software development. My point was that there are better ways of handling this than disabling the ENTIRE economy every time some bug is found that allows duplication. If the bug this time around was in the construction menu or housing, why disable player trading and the trading post? Turn off the specific thing thatās broken. If they canāt do that, then Iām not the one that doesnāt understand software development. Basically, they are taking the easy out by disabling the entire system instead of the specific issue. If they designed it in such a way that the only way to handle it is turning off the entire system, then itās a bad design and kind of explains the number of issues being discovered this quickly in a game thatās supposedly completed alpha and beta testing.
It is not stupid; it is the least bad response to a bad situation. The whole point is to find out who the dupers were during the shutdown and ban them before re-opening. Which they did according to the latest update. If you donāt shutdown then the duped items/money will be laundered. As much as you hate not being able to use the trading post, most people would hate high-end items being worthless even more
āItās bizarre to me that some people canāt see thatā isnāt a logical argument. Itās bizarre to me that you think letting dupers have their way would be less harmful than temporary shutdowns. When high-end items are duped in bulk it lowers their worth. The reason itās such a big deal is that MMOās arenāt a vacuum like a single player game so every playerās items carry meaningful value. The feeling of having your items actually worth something in a shared universe is the main reason to play an MMO as opposed to a single player game such as Skyrim. And it becomes totally upended/meaningless when thereās too much duping.
A temporary fix that youāre prepared to deal with every few weeks? Who in their right mind thinks thatās ok?
āa few extra copiesā lol
People literally made 100,000 azoth vials and 100,000 void ingots on a single account when the last big dupe was active.
lol
I donāt want dupers to have their way. I want them banned just as much as you do. But, you do NOT have to shut down the entire player economy to do that.
Thatās the part that is bizarre, and thatās the part that people defending this arenāt getting - which is also bizarre.
Doesnāt require a genius software engineer to know whatās already been explained multiple times: Disabling the thing that causes the duping will only prevent more duping; it doesnāt mitigate the damage from the already duped material. Those duped things can be sold to innocent players who will then craft/salvage them into who knows what, and the more things change hands the harder it is to rectify everything.
Why do you keep ignoring what everyone has tried to explain multiple times: If you let the items circulate, it wonāt matter if you ban them after the fact, because the money/items were already laundered and are polluting the economy, and will be hard to delete after innocent players bought them, salvaged/crafted them into other things etc. Thatās why the shutdown is the least bad solution to a bad situation because it will prevent the duped items from being furthered laundered/circulated while they try to track and delete as much as they can.
problem is a have a couple friends that wer ein both Alpha and Beta⦠this Problem existed THEN⦠so the whole it is hard stick is BS⦠this is shit that should have been fixed long ago⦠I get that new bugs pop up⦠but when you donāt fix existing game breakers in Dev it is either because you donāt care, donāt want to(because money) or suck at your jobā¦
I agree with OP
They shouldve made a better game
Let us have our duped items and gold

This makes me smile
Iām happy people have large amounts of resources like this
Things are too expensive in this game
Duping is gods way of trying to correct this shameful game
NAY:
Amazon please DO disable Trading (or any other feature) as needed, to mek the game fair to play and stop exploiters.
The only thing I would ask is look at some form of compensation.
While you have announced companies will get some for losses on their upgrades in towns please look at some form (even if minor) for all players as disabling trade is a fairly hard hit for all players.
QA is there as an extra safety net, but they are only a few in the grand scheme of things - even 100 QA testers will never find everything.
Developers themselves test features thousands of times during their making, over and over again but will always fail to find everything, usually due to tunnel vision - using the feature how it was intended.
Remember as well not all bugs are āyou have to do X and Y and itāll just workā, quite often there are 10 other variables - some in completely unrelated areas of the game, which compound together and cause a bug.
Weāve obviously experienced some bugs which really should have stood out to the QA team like⦠How does Malevolence despawn at 50% health and never respawn again? But at the same time why test this one particular mob when itās presumably using the same system as the other 10,000 mobs in the game? This one actually baffles me so much.
QA generally do hundreds of different tests when a feature is ready, and they simply either pass or fail. If everything checks out then itāll be released to millions of players - who undoubtedly will find unchecked situations which are the bugs and dupes you see. This being said I bet with the hatchet exploit the hatchet was tested by ādoes it do more damage if I spawn this one enemy in front of me?ā.
The economy is unstable as it is without additional items being generated so itās good it is disabled.
Lastly, blame the players, not the developers.
Yea, so the devs hate themselves for fixing a super similar bug in alpha/beta, and you are showing clear ignorance by virtue of not reading their posts. If you had, you would not say this exact thing, because itās - on the outside - the same bug, the bug in the code itās different. So they DID fix the bugs then, they just sprang back to life with another backbone. (mediocre analogy lol)
The developers at play here are clearly inexperienced, and Iām not discussing that part at all. Iām here to bash peopleās heads when they say wrong things or have an opinion based in entitledness, and oh boy am I having a field day.
You have no idea how hard it is to make a game of this scope
ā⦠but when you donāt fix existing game-breakers in Dev it is either because you donāt care, donāt want to(because money), or suck at your jobā¦ā
Yea, why are you not a millionaire yet? Itās easy, just make money, you donāt want to, or do you suck at life? (good analogy this time lol) Itās obviously not that black and white, nothing ever is, and complaining like a baby is not getting you anywhere. Read the dev posts and the whole situation before you begin spewing false information verifiable right on these forums.
I agree, man. Great writeup, a shame people who needs to read it probably wonāt. Have a good one mate

Only hope of this game is close it for few months, fix everything reopen fresh again i bet it will be 400k+ players again instead of 100k
A few extra copies? Is that a joke? Pretty sure it was thousands upon thousands of duped items and 10ās of millions in duped gold. Failed highschool economics, eh? Shuting down trade was the right call. Unless youād prefer a complete World Wipe?
