I believe people have an incorrect assumption of a healthy server population People talk of anything less than 2k to be “dead” the servers I believe capped at 1000 during beta and that number was crowded 2k we are running on top of each other. at my servers lowest is around 3-4 hundred which you still see plenty of people but its …comfortable at prime it jumps to 1400 ish which to me is crowded…ie people everywhere…
my point is we should look at a heathly average of around 1000 more during peak less during off hours. stop thinking the game is dead due to your server hitting a more normal range … people couldnt continue playing for 20+ hr runs forever LOL
I’m on Valhalla US East. One of the most populated servers in the US. I like that I can put something up on the market at 5am and 2 minutes later someone is already purchasing it.
On the contrary, trying to grab some gathering nodes is extremely difficult because the number of people doing it. This leads to an overabundance of all resources on the market.
I think 2000 people per a server are fine. People still complain about not getting selected for a war so imagine the numbers complaining if there were even more people.
I think 1500 is the sweet spot, as you mentioned plenty of people running around during peak hours and no wait time… room for expansion when the transfers hit.
I agree, but this means server policy still needs some adjustment. Right now there are language-specific servers in EU that always have significant queues in the evenings, because there are so few of them relative to the demand from players for servers in their language. It seems like these should be somehow addressed, although the longer it goes on the harder it is to do that because the more “entrenched” people get in a given server.
I do agree that the calls for massive cap increases – i.e., people were asking for 5k+ caps – are misguided given the game world and the gameplay (resources distribution and spawns. mob density and spawns, war mechanics., etc). 2k probably is pushing it to the limits, or close to the limits. Somewhere between 1000 and 1500 seems to be about Goldilocks for this game.
Trouble is people bring expectations from other games with them, and the idea that “1000 peeps is ded gaem!” and so on, and you can’t do much about that, really.
