Property Tax System is Extortion

and is negligible because you don’t always get tax cards. I’ve hardly seen any tax cards in all the settlements I’ve levelled to 30+ so far and I’ve only had 175 card max for 2 storage too which is abysmal.

Tax isn’t weekly either its every 5 days which makes it even worse. I’ve kept to lowest tier housing where possible so I am annoyed for my own taxes but feel more sorry for those who bought the higher tiers.

Yeah it’s a mafia thing.

No, but you can travel back to your home as often as you want lol.

There is no discount on Taxes, other than whatever you’ve accumulated through Town Standing, and even that isn’t currently being applied.

I really loath this. I feel like i’m renting a house, so stupid… I paid to buy or is it a down payment on renting… even pay every 5 days… really? why? it’s totally insane and a huge turn off.

let me resell or get my downpayment back on my house and get some of my hard earned money back… sigh…

unless your a day trader playing the auction, it hard to make money in this game.

What are you on about? The reduction from standing works. If you pay from inside your house that is in Good time, dunno about playing from the Map when its past time though.

Have you ever been beaten at chess? Ever joined the military? Ever tried mountain-climbing?

Can you accept that some people may have different experiences than yourself in game? I really am tired of the people jumping on forum posts trying to invalidate other players’ experiences just because they haven’t had the same experience or just lack the imagination to fathom that it can happen to someone else.

I (as in me - NOT YOU) experienced the fact that tax deductions WERE NOT WORKING AS INTENDED. Therefore I posted MY bug experience.

Did you make sure you lost the money or If it was just a display bug?

It took the full 2k :frowning:

Och, that sucks! Did you pay from map or from inside house?

Paid from the map, as I was holding out to find out if the 50% discount would get applied (which they just cut out entirely)

Paying from the map is bugged it seems :frowning: I do not know how they count the first tax is reduced, do they mean the first 5 days you own a house? Or should the first installment of the taxes be reduced. Little to no information concerning this. Also, with the economy on most servers, having a house is a huge timesink with the taxes. They need to adress this somehow.

buy a cheaper house if you’re poor, houses get cheaper if you own territory, and if you have property tax discounts. there’s not a lot of great ways to generate money right now so of course it might be hard for some people to pay tax on high tier housing

I have to admit my drive to play the game diminished quite a lot when I saw how insane the property tax is. I like how housing looks in this game. I have a weakness for the rustic aesthetic which is exactly what the housing and furnishings are. I was hoping to get into a friendly contest with fellow owners of the same plot to have mine be displayed to everyone.

But the property tax just killed it for me. I think at most I would get the cheapest house available but even that doesn’t seem worth it. Like this person said the tax is so high that in a few weeks you would have paid the entire value of the house in just taxes.

If the tax was only required for useful features like teleport, storage and trophy buffs then I would be fine with it. Unfortunately to be able to furnish your home you need to pay tax. I can’t understand why I need to pay tax just so I can put a chair in my house. Tax should only be for things that grant you an in-game advantage. Not for a feature that is entirely cosmetic. This is akin to paying tax when changing the skins of your gear.

It’s already so difficult to make money in the game and getting a house seems like a fantastic way to put a big hole in your wallet.

Never mind how you can get shafted if another company takes over the town your house is in and hike up the tax to the max.

It’s like the system is designed to discourage you from getting a house.

Throughout the beta, the “House purchasing UI Page” stated that you get a 50% discount on your first house, and this would ALSO apply to your taxes for said house. This is/was recorded and listed as such on both the wikis that I know of (not sure if they’ve updated their pages recently), but I’m sure many other players can confirm this.

However, as of Wednesday this week, this is no longer the case, and apparently never was (took them over 3 months from the closed beta to address this - and they waited until a LOT of players already purchased their first houses):

  • Fixed a housing UI issue. The UI will now correctly shows(sp) that property taxes are subject to the full price of the home, and not impacted by the first time home buyer discount.

I feel like you’ve missed the conversation. Not poor, just didn’t want to shell out additional money for taxes when I was told by the game that I wouldn’t have to. And, on top of not getting the 50% off from the first time buyers discount that the UI originally stated, I did not receive the property tax discount from my territory standing. At the time was ~13%, which if applied would have been a 1740 tax payment, not the full 2k that I did pay.

So, long story short, I was holding out to see if I could get the <1k payment, but instead ended up paying the full price - hence the bug report that was submitted.

Welcome to government, where people pay you for being around because you have the biggest stick. Personally, I find the fact that we can get really corrupt company leadership in towns to be entertaining and can lead to some interesting drama in game. But that could just be me.

No not anytime its every several hours depending on the tier of house.

If you don’t like the tax don’t pay em.

I have a house in MB where the company jacked the taxes to the highest in the server.

I bought a house elsewhere and just don’t pay that one.

Anyone play Elite dangerous and if so does this game’s poverty role playing beauty remind you of their fleet carrier fees? LOL

I see now why ESO never blinked or batted an eye at the arrival of this game.

Want a home for your toon, lots to choose from and NO taxes.
Want not to have to wear out 5 pairs of boots per mission running about with high speed mounts?-- and again lots to choose from.

Im not into pvp much but you want to start a war against Blue? Do it whenever you want (yeah still have to deal with server lags-for now)

IMO this game shines as a resource gathering logistics role playing game–the rest of it can be obtained in FAR greater form elsewhere.

I thought game restrictions and poverty impositions were in the past with -unmentioned games, but bloody hell…this game gets the cake all to itself

You can reset the house port for azoth very cheaply, so its practically anytime.
