I agree…where is your EVIDENCE (Not speculation) that NO ONE has been banned for it? Are you privy to information on every banned account?? No? Then you have NO evidence that anyone/someone has been banned for it… just saying.
Why would anyone believe you since you have shown no proof? You just saying something - does not make it true.
If you are going to create a claim you bring evidence. It’s not my job to provide them. If you do not bring evidence to support your claim I will not believe you.
It’s pretty simple. I’m not obligated to prove it.
But I will provide information from the Dev’s which I believe is credible even though you bring nothing.
we will first provide an official change in our stance, and then take action.
Now you are basically calling the Dev’s liars. I guess the only person who is right here is you.
We have banned no one that I know of (barring a mistake, there are humans involved, please let me know if you think this happened to you) for using Overwolf with minimaps that are currently available and use only position of the character.
There have been suspensions the last few days around macro use, but those don’t come from Overwolf. And bans for many other things, not related to Overwolf.
If we found a need to disable Overwolf, we have that option via EAC. We’d do that first.
Also it’s creepy that you folks can see me typing.
giving players an advantage that is not intended by the developers
I can’t stress it enough. You just try to find loopholes in the rules that are clear about the intentions. They don’t want people to have an advantage over others. It doesn’t matter where data is coming from. Get over it.
I find the best way is to just memorise where everything is, I guess this add on levels the playing field for people who don’t have memories capable of doing this.
This is just confusing lol. One dev says data from External websites = against ToS and now another one says we didnt ban anyone using These maps. Guess its kind of allowed then?
TBH though question is does NW actually have a way to stop it? EAC can see Overwolf process is running but can it actually detect the overlay you are using? I don’t think so…
They would have to turn off the positioning details and API and block Overwolf via EAC.
We actually have a lengthy discussion on this, but haven’t posted it yet. We’ll clear up things with that post, hopefully tomorrow.
But I can tell you no one has been banned for an Overwolf minimap unless a mistake was made. This is not a promise that all existing minimaps will forever be ok, because their functionality could change over time in ways we can’t even anticipate right now. We’ll describe (hopefully with full clarity) what is ok in that upcoming post. Sorry, I know I’m running the risk of sounding like passing the buck, but it’s important to be precise about such things and we worked to make that post precise, so it’s better than any off the cuff response I would make.
But if we considered a minimap bannable, we would warn first before taking any account actions.
I would rather shut down addons because more and more will be attempted to to be added to them.
I would rather you block them and create your own ingame minimap if possible that can be toggled. That way it stays within the guidelines you guys have for it and it removes any confusion.
Thanks again for your input, glad it’s a topic you guys have been discussing.
It doesn’t sound like you’re passing the buck. It sounds like you’re still trying to appease the unappeasable. There’s a reason a small group of vocal end-users are consistently posting about this in order to decipher loopholes of what’s already been clearly stated since the game’s launch and re-iterated multiple times since–they want to dance around and over the line of acceptable behavior.
The toxic behavior should have been nipped in the bud instead of you devs consistently going back to the discussion table to “figure out” how to work with your vocal cheaters. Every time a cheater comes to the boards to justify their abuse of the game, the overwhelming response from the non-toxic community has been to ban them…permanently.
Mature players do not want to play with toxic, cheating players. Until you take your own rules seriously, it’s highly unlikely anyone else is, either. The mature playerbase will continue to dwindle leaving you with a cesspool of players constantly challenging how you developed the game in attempts to discover new ways to gain advantages. That appears to be the playerbase you want to cultivate…but no, not passing the buck. I wouldn’t call it that at all. It’s much more problematic than that.
