PSA: Tiger's Instinct Receiving a Severe Nerf - This needs some discussion!

Yet Lazarus bow, Infamy and Slayer’s Crossbow (will be able to drop next patch) remain unchanged.

They all have two DmgCon perks (Vicious+Enchanted, Vicious+Enchanted, Vicious+Vorpal). And it’s good! Makes build diversity.

its like thats what it was designed for.

thats how every weapon should be.

tradeoffs.

with generalized good weapons being shmedium at best and the specialist weapons being crappy in its worst case scenario and godly in its intended roll.

They dont seem to care how it effects the playerbase and dont seem to understand that players dont want to invest all their time, money, and effort into gear just for sweeping changes that ruins said gear. See past weapon changes and heavy armor healing changes as just a couple examples. New mods every month for even more.

This is part of the reason why people stop playing. Its too much effort to get gear in this game for things like this to happen. People can point to other MMOs like WoW where the gear treadmill is ongoing. That is true but its highly different. In WoW I have a ton of fun running raids/dungeons with my mates and I wear that gear through the entirety of the patch/expansion. The effort was fun and rewarding. In new world I am just playing a crappy, aggravating, high cost, unfun RNG… and its all just to play the same content. It isnt to go into new dungeons, new raids, and entirely new areas. Its to continue playing the same damn content I have been playing for a year. Huge difference.

The only people that can reasonably keep up with this are gold buyers and top companies. Everyone else is fodder and keeps getting put further behind. But hey lets cap dungeons because someone might get more shards than someone else and we cant have that disparity.

I read that last word as “despairity”, and I feel like that is a perfect summation of my thoughts on this change.

exactly, I know, its a tiger themed hatchet, tigers attack from behind etc, I know. thats what I was getting at, its balanced because of the trade offs I said.

Wonderful discussion here so far, hoping to see this addressed soon.

literally no reason to change/nerf existing bis pieces to mediocre. u dont have to be a hatchet main to be upset over this change because its worrisome to think that this can happen to ANY pve drop weapon you use

Yeah unfortunately it’s a much bigger issue than just nerfing a single item. In a gear heavy game, if your gear won’t be safe from direct nerfs then that’s the point?

Now new perks and all of that will continue to come along and make BIS gear no longer BIS, but that’s expected by the playerbase and indirect. It’s more concerning if you spend a ton of hours getting an item and suddenly it gets hit with refreshing evasion or some other bad replacement perk.

Really hope this gets reverted before PTR goes live.

Double checked nwdb for the most recent update. It still has refreshing evasion.

This is just true-to-form AGS kneejerk behavior.

Tiger’s Instinct was obviously a huuuuge contributor to the SnS/Hatchet build, which happened to be bow’s main counter.

The last updates to bow that made it much easier to use, also made it extremely popular, so naturally the counter to the main meta is going to ruffle some feathers.

Not only is bow getting a net buff this next patch after the devs explicitly said it was already overtuned in the last dev video, but they also nerfed the ability to LS->SB combo in the upcoming patch, heavily crippling the SnS/Hatchet build, which again, was only useful against tunnel vision squishies.

None of the other double DamageCon weapons got nerfed, only Tiger’s Instinct.

Same shit happened in Alpha when the MMO kids couldn’t figure out how to beat hatchet spam back when melee stagger was in the game.

They just refuse to let this game develop a thriving PvP scene at every opportunity.

Farmed the hatchet but never used it, but can relate to the massive Hatcher nerf. They did the same thing to Absolute Terror VG many months ago. People spent forever farming it, 200k+ to purchase one and then they add refreshing “pepelaugh”. Typical AGS.

See that’s the thing…

Tiger’s Instinct drops in “PvE” content which can also be used in PvP but, less effectively. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good hatchet, with good perks, but did it really warrant a nerf? No. It’s a rare Hatchet that MANY players want to either use or collect but you need to farm it from the Tiger boss in Imperial Palace. Guarantee drop? No. Luck…sure, we’ll go with that.

Where’s this data the Combat and Balance Team is pulling to where they decide to knee jerk nerfing it to “Refreshing Evasion”. How come none of us can see the data or even get a response “why” it’s getting a nerf. Seems like a trend here, just band aid Refreshing Evasion, problem solved! This is not how to balance weapons if you’re just going to slap on Refreshing Evasion for every wep nerf. There are PLENTY of perks to add other than RE, but why does that seem like the “solution”. In short, it’s not. Blackguard’s weps sound familiar? Yea…

Keep PvE named weapons untouched…simple. They are rare to loot for a reason and having them with “special” names/perks makes it unique. Changing the perks of that throws that out the window. You may as well just name everything as they are, hatchet, War Hammer, Great Axe. Forget having anymore named items in New World because they don’t deserve uniqueness I guess.

Make MORE PvP weapons drop for PvP with more “PvP Only” perks. Should also have a PvP Skill Crafting Table also to where players can craft PvP only gear/weapons in addition to the PvP track rewards and include a PvP section in the Trading Post. Keep touching the named PvE weapons, they will lose their luster like everything else and no one desires to “grind” for uniqueness in New World. Absolutely appalling when we have something nice that players have grinded weeks/months for only to be yoinked for one of the worst perks on a weapon. I just don’t get it…

What I would really like to see is the following format for communication as to why a change is occurring. Transparency and communication is key to get the player base on board with a proposed fix.

Under no circumstances should there be any stealth nerfs.

  1. State the problem in clear terms
  2. Explain why it is a problem
  3. State what the fix will be
  4. Explain why this will lead to better gameplay/balance.
  5. Allow feedback from the players and take that feedback into consideration prior to pushing a change to Live.

Nooo, seems that the nerf went live! We hath failed :frowning:

i feel REALLY bad for the 10 people i know that farmed that bastard tiger for days before finally getting one.

I am one of these unlucky bastards. I spent weeks back in March farming it. Sucks, but we should probably just get used to things changing and not get to attached or waste too much time farming. I mean, look at Weaponsmith pants now…I wasted more than 40 hrs getting them and now, they are handed out when you step on the beach (exaggerating-but not really).

i got it on the 2nd day. i lied to my buds to spare them.

i dont even use the damn thing but man this is some BS.

Looks like AGS doesn’t care about the player base…

I upgraded it to 625gs before the patch, imagine that feeling…

As did I, but I wouldn’t go so overboard to make claims that AGS doesn’t care about its players…that’s a bit extreme, but perfectly in-line with the standard forum response.

Did the same with my Blackguard’s goodies…just move to something else and learn your lesson. If you are still farming for hours to get the “perfect” thing…just know it might change.

They still changed it with Refreshing Evasion which is what most of the outrage is for. Everyone can accept a nerf to the weapon where it’s still relevant but they made it a 2 perk weapon. It’s non on anyone’s radar now.
