PTR 1.2: Armor type and PVP damage type don't matter as much as GS

Watch this video and see if pvp armor mitigation makes any sense:

DukeSloth puts out a lot of actual testing videos and this is one he released today based on the current situation on the public test server with update 1.2

Some bizarre findings:

  1. Light armor and medium armor mitigate exactly the same damage.
  2. Some heavy armor mitigates almost the same damage as light/medium
  3. Putting on one piece of armor (and 4 slots empty) mitigates as much damage as wearing a full set (not including gems)
  4. Armor mitigation seems based on Gear Score but hard to test on PTR since it’s difficult to get different gear scores due to the new forced grind.

WTF?!?

  1. no one believed me

people dont care.

I have said, and continue to say, that players die jsut as fast no matter the armor they wear.

Holy smokes I hope this isn’t the case.

Sloth as a content creator is not very entertaining but he puts in the work and figures stuff out. Something that needs to be looked into for sure.

Congratulations

Side note dukesloth and MorrolanTV have been great resources for this game unlike some of the more successful clickbait YouTubers that put out false info.

The main thing will be to see how this tests at 600 GS

Go fight some hard mobs naked, and after that in full armor, and you will see this is just nonsense… if you didn’t die on the first part.

Have you even watched the video? It specifically says PvP scaling, what do mobs has to do with anything?

Patch should be fun tomorrow.

I admit I did not, since I knew it was bullshit for PvE and the title and thread text says nothing about PvP.

Now if only for PvP… they possibly made a mistake when implementing this (from patch notes), not like it would be surprising… :

PVP damage formula update

Adjusted the way armor mitigation was calculated to use enemies’ gear score value instead of your average gear score.

To adjust for the difference in armor mitigation we increased damage low level players do to higher level players, and reduced the damage that higher level players due to lower level players.

Or it’s simply observer error by the author of that video because of that change… possible too.

Well, the most concerning stuff is light armor having exactly the same mitigation as medium armor and elemental/physical mitigation not matter. The video presents clear test with damage numbers and so on, so it’s not some observation, but rather specific testing. And it shows quite bad results.

Well, then in my opinion AGS screwed up that part:

Adjusted the way armor mitigation was calculated to use enemies’ gear score value instead of your average gear score.

bump wtf is this ags

this is a different issue. or at least this current implementation is not how it was on live before. He even says this is not how it was in the PTR when the PTR first came out.

Yes! Thank you friends, I’m glad someone is waking up to this.

HAHA. It’s likely because they decided to increase player power for the LOWBIE fighting a higher level character.

Yes, a level 20 has more bonus damage than a level 60.

I shall edit this with a link to my original post from the start of the month. This game is doomed. I’m just here for forum end game.

Edit: here it is To my PVP Friends - General Discussion / General Discussion - New World Forums

This is a bug in PTR rn, not originally, the bug isn’t on live servers. Anyone that thinks heavy and light armor have the same mitigation is wrong, I’ve tested duels against heavy and light, heavy is significantly tankier

Yeah obviously its on PTR, typical 5Head New World Gamer here.

These are reflective of their equally 5head changes to pvp.

He is talking about pvp, brainlet.

  • Adjusted the way armor mitigation was calculated to use enemies’ gear score value instead of your average gear score.

What does this even mean? Can’t they simply add a percentage value based on the armor value like any other game? Why is this difficult ?

I said it since Open Beta that GS is going to be an issue in this game because everything will be dependent on it, wish I was wrong…

Why am I not surprised?

Ehm, i thought this was a known fact since release so for me it was. There are sure hundreds of people that tested this on youtube and reddit. But its just in open world pvp so doesnt have huge impact in opr or wars.
