If they want to make PvP a thing in this game, in any capacity, they need a combat system that facilitates skill-based combat, otherwise the people who look for PvP in games are going to continue to largely ignore New World.
No one is interested in a shallow combat system where time spent grinding and RNG and meta builds have a greater impact than player performance.
Allthough i’m a mostly PvE Player, i still enjoy the concept of PvX, that we have to incorporate with both, PvPer siegeing to Claim a City, PvEer upgrading a City.
Having different groups for all the Content working together towards a bigger purpose.
That still will not work. You have a miniscule % of MMORPG players who enjoy losing what they worked hard for.
Now if it was like Diablo 1 and the person you killed dropped a token that can be used as currency and have the existing feature for OWPVP (upon kill they have a chance to drop an item from a loot table and not their inventory). Does it still exist? I do not do PvP at all in this game.
Back to what I said… currency tokens and random loot table drops would work. But forced PvP needs to be shifted to a world instance.
But if old rumors are true, you may get your wish when Brimstone Sands is released.
On paper, the concept works. But a player is not a simple algorithm. You will always find those who choose to encourage discord and other toxic PvP behavior.
Not going to happen, find a different game. In your mind you think there are a ton of players who want this but there aren’t. Gaming is a business and they will not put resources towards something that a few hundred people want.
There are an infinite number of players who love PVP. You can see that here in the forum. Many people have unfortunately left the game because there is too little PVP. In many other posts, the topic of PVP is also discussed. We want PVE but also PVP. This wonderful game here gives us cool great new possibilities. Basically, the game here was also planned as a PVP game. Only that unfortunately went wrong because of the already mentioned toxic behavior. Nobody wants that either. Only a meaningful PVP activity. Or PVP dungeons. etc …
As an example Albion online also has PVP/PVE and PVEVP content. Content that makes sense. Openworld roaming, dungeon diving, carawans etc.
And I imagine something similar in New world incredibly good, beautiful and breathtaking…
I’m aware of this kind of behavior, but thats something we as a Community have way more Control over, as some may think.
There is no perfect System for, but having no cross-realm Systems is one of the best things AGS has done. This may sound weird at first, but server-wide reputation is a good tool to weed out those who cant behave …
Exclusion can be very impactfull, if done in cencus with the Community.
I want wars to not be end-game PvP content, nor do I want arenas for a solution, it’s a decent addition, BUT, there needs to be a Dark Age of Camelot type of frontier zone (basically instanced) where the REAL wars take place. a whole zone dedicated to 3 sides of battle. Whoever owns the most keeps/forts would in turn unlock a PvEvP dungeon that was only open to whoever owned the most lands, while this could get you this dungeon for your faction (realm) it would still be open for those who are inside as the tides turn in other faction’s favor regarding owning keeps/forts. etc etc…
This game desperately needs a new zone dedicated to flagged pvp. Have 1 outpost per faction and give people something meaningful to fight over. If you do not like to pvp just dont go to that zone.
Imo this system not fits in this game imagine 5 muskets staying on the hill and shooting to everyone xd naah I think they should add full loot pvp content but only instanced. They can make 2 forms of 3v3 arena normal where nothing happends and hardcore mode where u lose ur gear after death I am sure there will be teams who will go for it😎
AFAIK, PvP have never been separated from PvE in mmorpg… that what you call PvX have always been called PvP
I’m not trying to be a D here!! Just curious because I have seen the term before and so far nobody have been able to tell me what would be the difference between say a PvX server and a PvP server
Orrr, the PvE-only players could find a different game? AGS’s own explicit vision for NW is a game that intertwines PvE and PvP, but the latter is sorely lacking. Relegating PvP to completely meaningless instances or even to a single zone is not at all fitting with AGS’s stated vision, and pretending that PvP is not even supposed to exist like you’re doing is simply ridiculous.
The promise was “Coexist and complement”… I really thought AGS would really try to make both modes work together and offer similar gameplay experience in terms of challenge but so far is just the same formula other mmorpg have.
You say PvP is lacking, I do agree, but is not like PvE is stellar either… so far PvE is the old “second class citizen” treatment that deserves less rewards because apparently real risk can only come from PvP… which is really funny in a game where you lose nothing…. absolutely nothing.
You will never have a good PvP experience because AGS is refusing to give PvP players (the real ones, not the ones that flag for the reward) a place where they can find each other quickly… either via dedicated server(s) or cross-server zone…
A cross-server battlezone like in GW2s WvWvW would be amazing but i dont know if the Engine/Network Code would allow it.
Put an honor System similar to faction System into the Battle Zone, with tokens to buy PvP Gear or something like the timeless shards but focused on PvP Perks.
Putting that whole Zone on an Island, only accessible via your Servers starting/base shrine or to ambush from another point with a company build ship that can hold Up to 10ppl.
Let the war last a week and the winning Server gets +5% luck or less invasions, cheaper upgrade costs for towns, 10% gathering yield or something along such things.
It isn’t a big loss. It’s like the dark zone in the division. It makes it exciting.
Anyway, I like the idea. I would, however, make it an entirely new zone. It would be instanced to control player populations. I would either balance the number of purples, yellows, and greens per instanced so they are about equal to prevent zerging. Alternatively, I would make it every group for themselves (up to 5 players in a group).
Wait, what?? When did I say PvP wasn’t suppose to exist? I love PvP when I WANT to do it. Have been in wars and love OPR, wish there were more maps and modes like maybe capture the flag etc.
What I was referring to is the open world full loot/partial loot PvP. They already stated that it’s not in the plans for New World. They tried it in alpha and pvp jerks ruined it. They changed course over 2 years ago and went mostly PvE because that’s the majority of players. They also stated that a PVP server was not something they were going to do. What do you not understand? So I reiterate, Not going to happen. That’s not me saying that, it’s the creators of the game. Look it up.
If you look at their roadmap there are like 13 PvE elements and 3 PvP elements on the horizon. There is a reason for that and it’s because full time PvP players are the minority and they have to make money. I’m sorry that you wish it to be different, but it’s not.
Honestly I wish they would give you all a full loot full time PvP server so you’d stop whining about it.
