I have a friend that plays exclusively healer and barely anything else. Yesterday he was 100 to zero from range a few times after the patch and was wandering what happened and how. I play many builds and have fun with but you can’t challenge all healers to duel with you without their life staff if they haven’t practiced other builds. It takes time and practice. After all these guys are there to heal people and help them survive. There’s no ranked arenas or opr so no one is winning anything special really.
They aren’t a problem, per say. They just make the game less fun. It clearly wasn’t designed for the life staff, as it currently exists. This is an objective truth that can be observed by looking at it’s development.
I don’t really care. Like I said, just stating the facts. This game would be more fun without it. From top to bottom, EXCEPT, obviously, for folks who enjoy the healer archetype.
Every arena in in is more fun when no team has life staff. Every fight in OPR or the open world is more fun and skillful when a life staff isn’t there (is such a crutch for great axe players, I can’t even begin to tell you). Even expeditions are more fun (my brothers would typically 3-man them without heals, which almost always worked until the last boss lol).
The mechanics of the game do not require healers. But they are in the game, so we all must accept a less fun game. Tis what it is.
I disagree. Healers are part of the very foundation of MMOs, and they’re useful in turning the tide of battles rather than just a faceroll on the keyboard to steamroll your opponents. There WAS a build that was capable of grabbing unawared healers and bursting them like an assassin, but that has been sadly gutted. What you’ve stated was an opinion, not a fact. There are kits designed out there to make a Healer’s life miserable, but judging by the complaints I’m seeing here (as with any other MMO or game that has roles), DPS is complaining they can’t just roll over other roles, and the reality is general DPS roles are not designed for that in mind unless they outnumber other said roles and focus. Assassins are the general counter to healers and for picking off lone DPS, but after that, they falter, because that’s their niche, and it looks like people on here don’t want to go through the work of making specific kits for just the occasion.
It’s like stating Tanks make the game less fun and should be removed if they ever get their kit probably tuned up, which would make the game boring
Every assassin build gets nerfed. So AGS definitely wants braindead gameplay. It’s their game so all we can do is go to middled and spam AoE. Weeeeeeeee!

You also can’t just evoke the genre. In tab target games, you cannot avoid damage. You can kite, los, and sometimes press a button to activate an ability… But you can’t make your opponent miss.
New World is a true action combat game. A skilled player can avoid all damage, all day long.
The life staff, as designed, does not belong in an action combat game. It could have, and maybe should have, existed in some form… But the one we got, which basically allows players to ignore game design (positioning, strategic attacking, etc), isn’t working. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any support / healing abilities.
BUT unless AGS has the balls to completely rework it (they won’t), then we’re stuck with a less fun game. I don’t lose sleep over it.

Where was he wandering? Tell your friend to put gems into his gear and upgrade to 625, maybe invest more than 5 into CON.

That’s why the aggressive Life Staff abusers here only want Rapier nerfs, well-knowing this wouldn’t fix the Healing imbalance.
Ehhh, no, because even in non-tab targeted action MMO games, Healers are still necessary and part of the foundation.
The problem we’re seeing here is pretty simple, IMO and that is the devs are handholding DPS too much, to the point it’s caused a side effect in helping other classes such as Healer.
Generally in any MMO, MOBA, or any game that has roles and action oriented, you have effects that can tip the tide to your favor as well as punish people who do not expect it, which is CC. As of right now in this game, CC in general isn’t very dangerous. Stuns break from any source of damage, have long windups, and one is even on a long cooldown. Knockdowns are buggy at best, and can be ignored at worst. Roots can be dodged in place, preventing any source of burst, or blocking in place to buy user time. a huge chunk of the toolkit to help with punishing DPS also applies to healer, but because of the issues above, DPS generally doesn’t have to care about situations unless literally surrounded and spammed CC on. This applies to Healer as well.

Where are my silences? (something that should definitely be on Daggers, all the more reason in wondering why are these not the main focus, since they have a far stronger opening in build variety and roles vs Greatsword, but I digress)
