The way it works now the score accelerates if no one takes a point. I think offering respawn locations around the map could be useful. Or elevating the exots giving spawned players an advantage. Maybe kills in a certain area are dishonorable and are negative points. Maybe you get a timer like in open world. There are ways around spawn camping.
Also if you do it right, a long fight would reward comparable rewards to 3 quick matches.
I enjoyed doing the pve content in wow that was only available when your faction owned a zone like wintergrasp. I could see a scenario where you gain entry to a similare zone only through currency from opr. Loot pool could be highly pvp meta centric.
I agree, opr is a team sport. You win and lose together. The minimum contributions is okay i understand the need.
pushing territory is boring as pits you WISH to god some one else comes so you can get the dominate tokens to change things up.
and even then its almost completely worthless for small companies ether you work at it for days only to get sniped by a large company or you get politically blacklisted for not following the server owner rules. this aspect needs to be fixed.
got to say some of my favorite open world pvp was when our smaller company would organize elite runs up in mines when a bunch of yellows decided to take our time slot.
lots of fun fighting till yellow gave up and unflagged.
problem is it could of been resolved by yellow by waiting 30 minutes and trailing behind us or starting at myrk.
and those trains tend to value their time so they dont flag up anymore.
like i said earlier. open world pvp needs objectives specific to open world pvping with a reward at the end that isnt just a normal activity but with luck.
that is something that is needed. at least to shut up some of the pvp hardcore people so they can run off and do what they want to do.
What is even the point of that. When the hardcore top 1% PvP players run everyone else out of PvP? Sounds like a self defeated suggestion. Because most people are going to try it once or twice. See that they are going GEAR CLAPPED by pretty much gear demigods and going to avoid doing it again. Which again lands you people at square one. With barely anyone participating in open world PvP.
I just don’t think any reasonable reward can replace the feeling of having fun. Being fodder for untold hours is not fun for a majority of players.
if they want to split up and try and grab everything it will be easy pickings for a small squads and dedicated small companies even if the top pvpers have BIS everything.
and think of the player driven drama and “content”
You say that yet in Eve Online, ArcheAge, and BDO. I experience it over and over again. The geared are so geared that they can take on whole guilds with just two or three of them. Meanwhile everyone else mostly either stop partaking in the game’s PvP. Or they simply just quit and go play a game with more accessible PvP.
I agree that the way territory is pushed is trash. Also wars are for the select few. However, my point was not about how these things operate. My point was that the PVP happens itself. Sometimes I don’t even grab quests. I just start fights with the people that do.
This is definitely the more fun moments. Again, the point is this stuff can happen and there doesn’t need to be rewards for it. If people want to PVP its there. Most people don’t. Its not because of rewards. Its because they don’t actually want to PVP. They want the bonus while they unlock chests, that’s it. Thats proven in the rest of your post about waiting to start the trains and avoiding or simply not flagging anymore.
I walked right by about 50 or more flagged yellows yesterday while I was doing some pvp mission loops. They didn’t even look at me. Why? Because they just want extra luck for chests. They don’t care about PVP.
I don’t know I’m hearing that one Grav-Well can clap a whole group of players. Now imagine 2 or 3 of these BIS players against low end players. My experience with Open World PvP in gear based MMOs. Just tells me it’s not sustainable and fizzles out pretty quick.
And I think people need to focus on the point of. WHY PEOPLE DON’T LIKE PVPING IN NEW WORLD? Until that is addressed. I feel like there will be no forward progress, in enticing players to engage in New World’s Open World PvP.
I think some of it is the systems in place are kind of crap. Another part of it is there just isn’t as many players interested in PVP as some people think there are. If you need rewards to be interested in PVP then its not PVP you are interested in.
people farm and do chest runs because they need mats and money.
the flagging is needed to make the best use of that time, to die means to lose time so they dont want to fight even while flagged.
that is the simplest reason.
only reason super companies and land owners are desperate for more forced open pvp is because they already have the gear and dont need to care about the grind.
people truly interested in micro pvp will move on into arenas.
people truly interested in macro pvp will go to wars and opr maybe.
the only reason open war pvp might even happen is because people are out and about trying to do stuff. not to pvp.
even influence pushing and the likes are entirely to capture territory and get into wars. not to just be out there and smack each other.
Prior to the D-Day Patch in November we had loads of PvPing going on in New World. It wasn’t till after the December Nail in the Coffin for PvP patch. Nearly all of the PvPers jump ship on New World.
But that’s partially my point. A huge majority of the current player base. Just do not have the type of gear, that they need to be a factor against these Geared Elites. Which again makes the majority of the players not bother with New World’s PvP. At least until they can start to win.
You people basically are asking the Devs, to pseudo-forced people armed with a dull wooden sword. To fight whole groups of people armed with rail guns and full body combat armor. I understand, that you people are trying to avoid this inconvenient truth. But it is what it is.
with the number of pois available you can at the least edge out more cash by being careful and using strategy and choosing and fighting lesser companies and teams, or choosing to team up and take down a bigger super company and or vulturing in as a 3rd party.
the thing about meal team six and their super geared gear is that they only really function in the confines of a tailored event. open world pvp is nothing like war or opr.
strategy costs nothing while gear costs months worth of asmo.
IE from an example from escape from tarkov i have taken out entire 5v5 man squad fights as a solo with a hunter by using well placed grenades and just baiting them to fight and walked out with literally top tier gear for basically nothing.
November patch was the one where AGS basically got rid of the scaling. And turned New World into a Hardcore Grinder. Then the December patch was when AGS double down on their new Expertise system and forced the PvPers to grind 2 PvE dungeons for many untold hours. Just to start earning the gear to be a factor in PvP.
You can actually see how New World saw it’s two sharp declines with these two patches specifically.
