PvP in 1.2 : Gear Scaling means GS will no longer matter for PvP. What's the point of grinding now?

There’s already every fucking MMO ever made besides Guild Wars 2 if you want imbalanced PvP combat. How about you leave our PvP MMO alone and take your pathetic nolife power tripping elsewhere?

Sounds like you want a MMO with no levels and no gear tier. You should be playing another game genre.

Then there’s no reason to touch our gear agnostic PvP.

We have always had scaling in pvp. And it has always been poorly done. at least I kinda see the point of it. But we are at the point where the majority of pvp players are already 60 so it’s not needed. I say remove it all together.

Really next year when expertise scales your gs odds are it’s going to break pvp otherwise.

As someone who wore 520 faction armor for PvP on a low population server, I felt competitive and didn’t get wrecked in any 1v1 - except by a couple of players on the server. Then I transferred to a high population server and everyone was wrecking me. The access to grouping and Outpost Rush was actually there, meaning more variety and quantity of items on the trading post, more people available to do things with you at any point in time. It was like being in a kiddie pool and then getting dropped in the ocean. I found myself immediately at a gear disadvantage that I actually felt immediately. And it motivated me to start acquiring new, better pieces of gear. I am still spending time/effort doing this, getting my HWM up slowly, etc. I don’t want to instantly be normalized with someone who has meticulously assembled a fantastic set of gear that is optimal for their weapons and playstyle. I want progression of working my way up to be competitive with that person.

Welcome to open world PVP that’s how it works in every game. No game equalizes open world pvp. Sure add an arena where everyone is equal like many games do, I’m down for it.

You have an extremely aggressive tone for someone who’s accusing others of being sociopaths and socially maladjusted. Keep your projections to yourself.

Well, isn’t that great that you don’t have to play crappy and obtuse game systems in order to PvP?

still seems to me that a true PVP player wouldn’t want to know they won just because they had a gear advantage. Also seems to me why most people don’t like open world PVP because not everyone can play 18 hours a day to get said advantage. Who wants to play a game they know they will lose 90% of the time just because they are at a heavy gear disadvantage or level disadvantage.

You don’t pvp to squash the little guy, that happens but that’s not where the fun is. The fun is when you run against someone stronger then you, then strive to reach where they are. That’s what drives competition.

No projection. Just the sad acceptance of reality over the last two years since getting back into MMOs with WoW classic. MMOs have always drawn your kind but the concentration of people who are trying to use these games as a means to have power over people in a way they cannot achieve in real life has skyrocketed. It’s incredibly sad for the rest of us who aren’t vile wastes of air, but even having 30% of a server consist of people like you poisons the entire community.

I guess I don’t understand that mindset. Don’t get me wrong. I am not knocking that mindset. I just don’t share it.

My fun would be knowing I beat someone because I was better. Not because I played longer. I don’t strive to have more gear than someone else. I strive in increasing my skill as a player so I can outplay someone else.

When you have gear and skills now you can 1vx which is infinitely more fun.

Gear is only part of the equation, skills matters too. I will envy a more skilled player and aspire to reach their level as well.

I also happen to get a very good feeling of beating a better geared player by being more skilled them them.

PvP players are lucky, no leaderboard on wins/loss.

Yea, you’re just a salty troll.

Nice to meet ya troll.

a great, well thought out response.

moving on

PVP is the reason for the PVE grind for a lot of folks, myself included. If PVP is normalized, then a lot of people won’t see the point of the grind at all - “I’m grinding PVE so that… I can be better at grinding PVE?”

Personally, my twitchy PVP days are long gone. Now when I craft gear, it’s sort of like that wheezy fat kid building himself a battle mech in the garage.

Sounds like action PvP games are no longer for you. This is what chess is for.

Tested this on ptr and gear score/armor resistances definitely matters now in pvp. Much more than on live servers. Don’t mislead ppl if you haven’t tested for yourself
