Reading your reply is similar to someone who’s new to the workforce and believes they should be a COE, meanwhile they have no achievements or work experience. There are many other games out there with no progression and you’re free to play them, but don’t ruin my experience because you don’t have time and assume anyone who does, has no life. I work an hour or two a day, sometimes less, and earn more than the average salary most make. It took me years of hard work and long days to get to this level and I’m proud of it, so you guys need to stop shaming others that actually have time to play a game, not everyone is a kid or lives in their mom’s basement.
Furthermore, I personally do not enjoy any games without progression. A grind is what keeps things fun, interesting, and not repetitive. It’s literally what an MMORPG is and why people play it in the first place. I don’t want things to be easily attainable by everyone, especially those who put absolutely no effort into a game. If levels and gear don’t matter, why am I wasting my time doing it at all? And outside of all of this, you didn’t even read my post because my post literally fixes many of the issues of PvP without the need of scaling.
I think you’re playing the wrong game. Go play a MOBA if you want some quick matches where time and dedication don’t matter. There is a reason people picked this game and not another MOBA.
All I hear is ‘woap woap woap I am the greatest woap woap woap nobody else matters woap woap eat my woap woap becuaus I am so great woap woap…’
So, you can semi-retire. Great for you. So, then you have nothing better to do than spend all day on a game, sorry for you.
If you want to show off your bling and high-level gear, go run dungeons or group PvE content. I am sure you will be able to impress someone there.
So, I am playing the wrong game and should apologize for wanting to PvP, because I have to work, have a wife, and a kid? Did I hint that it sounds like you have nothing better to do than playing a game?
I do not know why you think that playing PvP matches on equal footing means lack of time and dedication. Just because I have limited time does not mean that I cannot be dedicated and focus on learning game mechanics and building up muscle memory. It actually means that I have to be more dedicated, if you can understand that.
It still sounds to me like you are scared of meeting me in a fair fight, where you cannot hide behind spending all day in your man cave!
PvE is where you can show off the results of your long hours of nothing better to do than PvE in a game. PvP should not be for cowards hiding behind their long hours of PvE, there should be arenas for that - like sumo wrestling rings. Then real PvP would be for those players who are not afraid of being measured and weighed based on their skills at playing - without an advantage/disadvantage from how much time they have nothing better to do.
Just to point out a few things with your post, not bashing you.
“Killing players only provides you with experience, nothing else.” - It provides you with weapon skill as well, a good bit to be fair.
“If you’re going to go gathering, there is no absolutely no reason to have PvP enabled.” - Farming gives passive exp, having pvp enabled gives more exp. Not much but still adds up over time.
“There is no incentive or any restriction to prevent a high level from destroying a low level.” - There is pvp scaling, a level 30 can beat a lvl 60 in open world pvp without issue. Only difference is weapon skill.
“No small scaled, competitive, PvP. These are often known as arenas, with a leaderboard and ranking system that also gives you special PvP specific gear.” - I heard they were going to add this but I agree, I wish we had something like that.
" Allow us to loot killed players, it will NOT be their actual loot which you are looting." - We can’t actually loot players, yes. BUT they do drop loot when killed.
“Players that are higher than the recommended level for a territory, will be unable to PvP at that location.” - Again pvp scaling makes this not a big deal, it isn’t necessary.
I think this might be a server issue, on my server no one is disabling pvp for any of your listed reasons. Its still going strong.
I never said I played the game for long hours, I actually don’t. You assumed I did. I just showed you how some people have the time and that doesn’t make them worse than you. In fact, I can easily say you made poor choices in your life that you don’t have the time to support yourself and have time to play a game. Also if you don’t have time to play a game, then don’t. You’re on a gaming forum, shaming gamers for playing a game on their off-time. You’re not better than anyone.
I don’t level and get gear to PvE. I do it so I can be stronger in PvP.
So you think I don’t have any of that as well? Please stop with this, “I work hard” nonsense and act like you have some life and no one else does. Again, maybe you should make better life choices. Sounds like I do less, make more, can support my house and my family, and can do other things, such as play a game whenever I want. Again, I don’t play long hours, I actually invest into other stuff to make even more money, just because I want to, not because I have to.
But I still enjoy the grind, because that’s what an MMORPG is. I’ve been told to work smarter not harder. I used to work hard and it was a real mistake. I had no work/life balance whatsoever. I made very little for the effort I put into a business. It only made matters worse and I learned from my mistakes. So if you’re going to shame me for having a lot of free time, I will shame you for not having a lot of free time for having a dead-end low paying job where you can’t find the time to even play a game.
Because there are many other games where you can do that. You assume that I use levels and gear to make up for my lack of skill. I never said that. I’ve played many games where all you do is have equal footing and rely on rankings. But outside of rankings and doing the same thing over and over again, it gets boring. Now I can level, do quests, do a dungeon, craft gear, and do other stuff than PvPing for no reason. I’m building my character, rather than just having everything handed to me. Something you should reflect back on your life and your career.
Having PVP scaling misses the point of MMOs for the vast majority. MMOS are a power trip, people work hard in game to be the most powerful and have the best gear so they can flex and destroy others who did not. No one wants to admit it but it’s true never-the -less.
Having PVP scaling removes that and therefore the point of MMOs for most people. Feels to me like any Dev who incorporates PVP scaling does not understand the MMO genre or its player base.
I do not PVP at all so far in NW, but even I understand and accept this about MMOs.
No point flexing gear, skins are sold, Can’t go out and flex on a low level because of scaling. This does not feel like a lasting solution to a long term game.
I enjoy the skins, but you’re right, you can’t show off that crazy end-game gear if you’re just replacing it with a cosmetic everyone can purchase. Should be different tiers to skins.
This is spot on.
We don’t all want to be equal.
Let those that put in the effort reap that!
Well, maybe put your effort into PvP duels then. Instead of mining rocks and trying to win just off that. PvE players feel like the most entitled bunch. They claim to not care about PvP but when they do want to PvP they want to win it off their PvE grind and not actually win by being better.
A grind is what keeps things fun, interesting, and not repetitive.
Just wanted to point out that this is the funniest sentence in the thread. Grind or not repetitive - pick one.
Beside this point - killed players do drop loot sometimes. But yeah, this game needs more PvP based leveling and gearing options. And PvP enabled could increase something like gathering-drop luck or gathering gains to encourage more people to enable it.
I do disagree on PvP scaling part - it is needed, and right now it is rather tame,so high level players do have an advantage, but the can’t insta-kill low levels.
I keep PVP on…
What is this even supposed to mean? You like the fact someone can grind to get better gear and a higher level but can’t use that as an advantage? Sounds like a waste of time to me.
I understand what you’re saying, and I think you hit the nail on the head. In doing so, you also clearly illuminated what’s wrong with that thinking
MMOs are absolutely based on power gain and progression, which in this game is obtained in the PvE context. Its RTS style thinking based on progression PvP, from the days of multi-hotbars and tab-targeting. At its core, its an arms race. Its fighting systems against systems. It is very much applicable to certain kinds of environments, and in the correct context, fun in its own right. But not an action schemed, skill based PvP environment.
They are very much, two separate games. And that is the biggest problem. Both sides of the issue are right, for the games they are playing. But they are not playing the same game, regardless of what Amazon said when they sold it to them
Wow, all the suggestions in the OP sounds like great ideas for PvP! I even think some PvE players might be converted over.
EDIT: One thing that might cause an issue in this game (the way it is currently setup) is restrictions on PvP in zones. I know that’s how you want to get rid of PvP scaling, but the devs have setup the land capture game mechanic so that everyone must attack/defend towns all over the map regardless of what player level the zone was made for.
Those are instanced. In that case, they should be able to just walk in, maybe being able to enable PvP, but be unable to partake in the open world region they’re restricted from playing in.
