Hello and sorry for my English (translated with google)
I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but we still have some low level players on the servers who avoid flagging as pvp to protect themselves from the 625 hardcore pvp who were killing them for fun. I want to share with developers and players another option to help them
Let’s limit pvp: players below level 60 can only fight lvl 10 below or lvl 10 above their own, but not 60 or players below level 60 can fight everyone except level 60 players.
I would love to hear what other players have to say about this idea
If they don’t want to risk being killed - by anyone who can - then they shouldn’t be flagging. I think we all know that a lot of flagging is done solely for the bonuses and not out of any real desire to PvP and that’s a problem. Players being killed while flagging isn’t.
Anyone that says don’t flag yourself in PvP is just foundimentaly wrong. Where a game that rewards players with luck bonuses for higher loot values or better quantity, it’s a long slog for anyone to play not flagged as a low level and catch up without nearly doubling the hours of gameplay to acquire the same items. Those that are defending it are most likely the perpetrators waiting outside towns and sniping LVL 12s who are trying to play their first faction mission and or are the ones that chose the most populated faction to simply win the game by association. If there was no exp or PvP loot drops for players 15 levels lower than another player than the game would be much more friendly to new comers to the game.
As a returning player who was nearly max GS on everything back in early February, I bought the game again on a new Steam account and have been really enjoying the game on a PVE level for the past couple of weeks.
I’m in Castle of Steel currently which I believe is the 2nd largest US East server, and I have been playing flagged since I was like level 20 and I’m level 50 currently. I’ve seen plenty of other flagged level 60 players and have only been attacked two or three times. Most aren’t dickheads.
I’ve always liked Fallouts PVP system, where you can’t do damage to another player unless they engage you back. Once that happens, levels don’t matter (and they shouldn’t) and the fight goes on. But it’s not like I can take someone’s loot from killing then in New World, so me fighting someone is almost pointless.
Extreme Claim. According to Polls, around 40% of players in mmos want pvp+pve, so you would find nearly a third of your entire server sniping lev 12s (which I literally saw in Tera once: Tons of Guilds with lev 60s camping lev 11 players, me included. I got camped until lev 25)
Fair, it did suck getting ganked when doing missions, but then again, the game has a pve option, so you can’t really blame others for choosing that yourself.
True. But it is what most people wanted. Before this change, pvp was dead. No one would flag. There was 0 reason to flag. Some people said for the sake of ‘doing pvp’ but they could scratch that itch by simply dueling outside Windsward. As many did until they got bored and quit.
I understand trolls enjoy ruining your gaming experience, but it is simply not sustainable to have pvp optional and still have 0 benefits for doing pvp. Like, you can’t ruin the gameplay of 40% of the server so that 1 or 2 hardcore PvErs could progress easily through the game.
However, pvp is indeed quite unbalanced lately. People say scaling is super bad. And Perks make a huge difference so low lev players are screwed going against lev 60s. The um, capping players in pvp to 10 levels sound appealing but I’ve seen this being exploited in other games.
There are no easy solutions. Perhaps a penalty for a lev 60 killing a player under 60. Like losing PvP Exp. Or not getting any. Or getting a debuff so they don’t get any PvP exp for a few hours.
You make some fair arguments. I won’t deny that. Many of those other MMOs have twinking possibilities (lowering ones level to manually place a character into a lower class tier of player to maintain a highest level in their particular class tier.) New world doesn’t seem to have that issue as you can’t lower your level on purpose or by accident. Meaning it’s only a matter of time before everyone is LVL 60 so I think the PvP-LVL-benefits-gate is a great idea as it doesn’t necessarily go full stop on the PvP, but does remove the incentive of gaining anything material for doing it.
Yeah the community is a lot better than it once was and a lot of the time you can call up some Randi’s for help and there won’t be a problem for much longer. But it’s not really about the large population that is the problem either. It only really takes about 20 people spread out in the world that can really put a new comer off of the game.
Yeah, maybe the Devs should test this for like 2 weeks and see the numbers and complaints on the forum.
Actually, not even 10 people. I remember when grinding, just 6 people was enough to wreck our chest-looting Zerg of people flagged. Mostly when our faction had few numbers. Even I created mayhem for enemy zergs a few times. Then I got ‘attacked on sight’ by greens for a while lol
True, but to be fair, if a lev 60 can’t attack a lower lev, then even friends won’t be able to duke it out. Low lev players won’t ‘see’ what people can do at lev 60. An incentive will be lost there.
huh. didn’t I just indirectly say that I’m not against pvp lower levels entirely. just pvp faction benefits from killing <10 levels lower than the player. this way you couldn’t farm newbs for medallions or other pvp related loot and exp. by all means Im not saying stop pvp all together for <10 I just want there to be no mistake in the reasoning as to why a player has decided to kill a lower level player. not like the newb wouldn’t be complaining if its their buddy duking it out. but you can bet if they said, “wow great job killing a low level.” there would be an entire chat room chastising that dude for being an ass for the sake of being an ass.
Don’t Pvp flag if you don’t want to be hunted. Better yet, call out to your faction for assistance in the PvP fight as you are yet a whelp if not 60. Slaughter away 625 60s! It is the game and how whelps learn.
