Regional scaling is exactly the compromise that would fit here. Its been done successfully in other titles, like Warhammer, etc.
It might be a good, intermediate fix until AGS refines a real plan. You could even make it one way, so that you don’t scale up, and have to level to fight at-level in the higher level zone. But high levels would scale down if they want to hunt noobs
PVP scaling is essentially nonexistent in this current iteration and it makes for bad gameplay. Some lowbies were trying to fight at the fort against my group last night and it was just sad–they get two shot. Closed beta felt much better and was a more fun experience.
Perhaps there’s a middle ground where sub-60 characters are scaled to be close to equal, and level 60 characters derive more benefit from gear?
These are always flame fests. The problem is that having a system that rewards high level gankers is that it ultimately destroys PvP. Usually those that are ganking are doing it maliciously. They go into lower level areas to specifically hunt down lower level players. That causes players to get frustrated and then turn off PvP. They play the game as PvE until max or near max level. Many will just keep it off and not want the frustration of having it on. PvP will lose 25% of the player base here if not more. Some will turn PvP on, when they are high levels. However, they haven’t played PvP up to this point so they will be bad and get frustrated, turning PvP off again and staying PvE or leaving the game if there is no end game content.
The Result is a 50-75% reduction in the possible PvP player base. If end game PvE is bad the game will see a 30-45% subscription drop. This will cause problems in both PvP and PvE which will ultimately slowly kill the game.
Yes, players should be rewarded for their higher level and awesome gear, but when playing others close to their same level. Its a straw man argument to say I should be able to kill low level characters cause look at my level and gear.
Every MMO-Game has suffered from this. Almost all (if not all) implemented fixes for PvP way to late; Guards, Bounties, XP Reductions, Gold Taxes, No Honor systems, etc. They all started off thinking things are great. The problem is that people will leave PvP which will kill the PvP player base. Gankers won’t care because they are only in it to feel the rush of killing someone that doesn’t stand the chance. They don’t care about the long term survival of the game. For those that do, making sure PvP is a good experience is critical to have a thriving PvP community.
As it stands now, 70-80% of the player base is going to play the game to end level and then leave since there is no end game content. PvP is the end game content but you are discouraged from doing PvP until you are a much higher level. At that point it is too late, as PvE is a completely different beast from PvP.
I personally like PvP and played a bit with it on, it was fun. Someone a couple levels higher than me took me on and I won, it was fun and skill based. Then someone 13 levels higher than me came along and destroyed me in 4 hits. Lost my PvP quests and promptly turned PvP off. I may turn it back on at end game, but probably not. I am not going to be able to level with PvP on so I will suck at end game. That won’t be fun (the point of any game) so I will leave the game at that point. This is not the first time this has happened to a game and this won’t be the last.
Non-scaling is good. If they boost low levels or degrade high levels, game becomes the next WoW. Which has no real PvP anymore. Simply upgrade yourself or close your PvP till you feel ready.
Maybe because you are still bad at the game that you allow some inexperienced 10 lvl character beat you to pulp. Are you scared that this will happen? Because i think this is your biggest fear
Eh… I’ve killed quite a few people in the +10 to 15 range in levels on me because of how rewarding this game is to players who avoid getting hit. I think there’s still quite a bit of skill involved in the combat.
PvP scaling has no place in MMORPG’s, theres a flag option for a reason. Literally just hit a level 34 for 400 when i’ve put in hours to get some decent equipment at 60. Does not feel rewarding at all. Literally had to flee from two 30-40 range players with great axes.
No one cares about your hours put in or the equipment you have. All that is great for pve, but it has no place in pvp and that fact is proven by just looking at the game. NO ONE is flagging for pvp because no one wants to deal with people like you who think they are owed an easy kill because of a level and gear advantage.
There are literally already a bunch of threads popping up of even worse ideas of people wanting to force players into pvp because no one is flagging and its only going to get worse because people like you are stuck in 2002.
Also, if you’re fleeing from 30-40 range players at level 60…you’re clearly not very good at pvp.
Hey so first off, piss off with that no life shit. I’m retired, have enough money to cruise through life and I had heck of a great time doing that. Just want to game now. I like having progress in my rpgs. I like competition. When you put those together, you get an mmorpg with competitive aspects of pvp
There are plenty of games with leveled p v p and I play those too
I just want to see my theory crafting, efforts and time also to reflect my power level. I like seeing my own player progression WITH skill in pvp combat.
So let me get this straight. You spent all day playing new world for many days straight and you have a life… It’s not enough that you have more combat experience, you also need the crutch of more HP and damage than your opponent in order to win.
Okay, just realize how garbage you are if you lose against someone lower level than you.
Really? Because I tested the scaling. I equipped a level 8 anchor weapon which I had no stats to support. I then fought a level 15 with an ice gauntlet. I was level 35. He had several abilities which slowed me. I had no abilities at all. All I did was run at him and R1 him. I didn’t do much damage at all, but my hp pool was so huge compared to his, he was dealing negligible damage. I won with about half my hp left. That should not have even been possible. He outplayed me, I only won because my hp pool was several times larger than his. All I did was slap him with a weak level 8 anchor. No abilities or strength attributes and I only had some const from my armor. How is it fun to lose to that?
24/7 boards smashers whant to one hit people lower lvl because they know in a fair battle they are going to being wrecked its so fun seeing this lvl 50/60 in pvp dieing poorly i did more pvp in closed beta as lvl 30 than now im lvl 52, invest time in being better is more important than rush lvl and non sense pve, thats why in all mmos are training dummyes so you can test, improve and git gut, so stop with the bs about “my lvl needs to means something” yes its means you lvl up, did content, lvl up stats nodes, weapons skills, and have more advantage not an easy win…
