PVP : The massacre (rework needed?)

So i’ve been playing new world since day one of the official release and i’ve seen the game evolve quite a lot.

I had fun in PVP with other people from accross server(s). Good duels, and fun large combat situations in OPR. Yet recently i feel like the only way i can contribute in PVP is by healing, which is nice but tends to get boring after a while… As a long time player of PVP MMO’s i want to do some damage and measure my skill against other players. It’s just … that skill does NOT matter at all anymore and that very very sad. Due to the lack of time i can put into gaming, i tend to focus on what i love the most and that is PVP and not endless grinding of expeditions.

So needless to say i’ve fallen behind on the magic thing called GearScore … with my 570 GS PVP doesn’t feel fun anymore it’s more like a massacre … I engage someone in PVP, landing some good combo’s on him / her some knockbacks, bleeds, staggers and … Nice … i have reduced the enemies Health bar by … what??? 30% … hmmmm needless to say there i am with my pants on my anckles getting killed in one or two auto attacks from the opponent…

So i got some gear from the trading post … Going big on damage and put 370 points in Dexterity … new found hope, lets do this… I spot myself another Archer … Sweet a bow duel … nice a 2.8k crit this is going nice, Poison cloud , volley and sweet some dots, another 1.7k damage hit … goood he spotted me okay let’s dodge this shit … 5 successful dodges and one or two hits off on him. Bam i get hit for 7k the enemies First hit … 85% of my health bar melted like snow before the sun …

So long story even longer … i lose 99% of my duels and encounters in any form of pvp … due to not having highest number in GearScore …

Isn’t it time that they introduced a balancing system ? Matchmaking or what ever… let equal geared players do some casual pvp to get rewards and enjoy a skill based game. so that they can gear up and improve instead of being butchered by some random flying arrow that hits them in the F**** knee …

Are there any plans on the table to at least implement a catch up system or a matched PVP options??

Without such an option Arenas soon will become a barren wasteland dominated by the few …

Sorry for the whinefest but a large amount of the playerbase needs help … we are getting slaughtered without any means of defending ourselves.

So you want to be able to go head to head as a casual against someone who spends thousands of hours playing?

Get your GS to 600. That should take like a week tops running chests.

Once you are at 600gs then get 10 gypsum. This will get all your gear to like 609. Then the next day farm 10 more. Boom you are now at 615 GS.

Now run a couple dungeons and you are at 625.

One week of gaming will take me al least 2-3 months since i work 10-12 hours a day :slight_smile: and only game on saturday evening most of the time.
I’m not saying i want to go head to head with the ilvl 625 but at i want to be able to enjoy pvp with people that are in the same Gearscore bracket. Have meaningful pvp battle and have fun not respawn 24/7 because of the blunderbuss teams camping your start base.

But i think i’m from a different era in time where skill was the factor that mattered :slight_smile:
Like Quake 3, and Half-life death match :wink:

Also i see a lot of new players popping up on our servers, most of them are looking forward to do PVP. But i’m afraid they won’t last long once they reach 60

Your problem isn’t GS, it’s lack of resilient perk. It’s must have for PvP otherwise crits will destroy you.

In skill-based games, the thousands-of-hours player would have the advantage by being the better player, theoretically. Obviously in MMOs, time spent is no indication of skill. MMO kids feel entitled to have advantage due to free time rather than any performance on their own part.

It’s a shame skill isn’t a major factor in New World.

Sadly i have Resillient perk on 4 items which i purchased just for PVP, but i got the feeling that since they are 599 - 600 items scaled down to 550 ish or lower that the amount of resi you get from the perk is actually reduced … Intended ? Bugged i have no idea.

My Healing set i’ve bought before the changes to the expertise and GS calculation (they are not scaled down) there i also have 4 items with resi and i feel like i’m able to take a bit more damage / survive better…

Do your daily world tour (1 hour), farm for 2 minutes to get your hidden stashes, and you’ll have at least 2 gypsum orbs to pump specific pieces. If you only have 1 day a week to play then other players shouldnt be bumped down or “leveled” to your lack of time played. Its just not realistic.

I will say the grind from 500-600 expertise is a soul crushing grind AND the time to get to 625 average GS is also rough. Both need to be addressed.

Nope you are not from a different era. Just go look at the most popular and the most barren PvP scenes in Gaming. The popular ones are the equalized or skill based PvP. While the PvP scenes that are barren. Are skillet paradises where gear is most of the fight.

MMO developers including Korean Devs figured out very few PvPers. Will continue to play a PvP venue where player skill is not the main factor. The only people that seem to enjoy skillet gear based PvP. Seem to be shitters who naturally suck at it. Therefore, look for Devs to trade them huge PvP advantages in exchange for time and or IRL money. Since these PvP shitters are the minority of gamers. 99% of the games they enjoy are close to being dead.

I love the blatent acknowledgement that skill shouldn’t matter and only people that spend a lot of time doing mundane activities should be able to compete at the highest level. Again, not because the people who spend more time playing have developed any skill, but because they’ve killed the most boars.

MMOs are like a safe space for the absolute worst players. They want their characters to carry them and scream bloody murder when asked to perform as a player.

Yeah, I hate to say it OP, but we squarely lost this battle very early in the game’s release. They went back and forth on the pvp scaling between the betas and during the first patches at release and its pretty clear to me they are not revisiting this again. This is why I stopped playing in January when they rolled out the umbral shards and mutations bullshit.

I stopped playing ESO for the same reason, and I played that game for years. Gear treadmills are just exhausting. I want to enjoy an MMO with my friends. I don’t want a second job.

Maybe one day, over the rainbow.
