So much crying on these forums about nerf this, nerf that. Anytime you get a weapon nerf it makes another weapon stronger and used more. I just wanted to give you MY OPINION on things that melee/caster users can do that will help ease the feelings that other weapons are overpowering. The reason I used GA and WH in the title is because they seem to be complaining the most this go around. Whos next?
Most issues with feeling like your weapon is under powered or another weapon is OP has a direct correlation to your own skill level and your armor and armor perk choices. I will list a few things that you can do to level the playing field. Every build has a counter build. There shouldn’t be any build that can beat ALL others. That is balance. And just because one build beats yours doesn’t mean it needs to be nerfed or changed to make you better.
OPR and War are not necessarily the best test of what weapons/armor need adjustments. You are being hit by multiple weapons and sometimes fighting players that have dedicated healers. Stop using OPR as experience to start demanding nerfs and changes. Its better to use a totality of all instances to measure any needed changes including PVE.

Voidbent Armor is not PVP armor. If you are wearing Voidbent and getting owned, locked down, CC’d, this is your own fault and not the reason to nerf a weapon. If you have a problem with getting rooted or stunned, look to your armor for the answer. A properly geared PvP player will walk through a CC or VG scream root. Again, VOIDBENT IS NOT PVP ARMOR.
Look for pieces that have resilience, freedom, and other PvP perks. You will more than likely need a luck set and a PvP set, carry both. I have a luck set, PvP set, war set, and invasion set. -
If you wear light armor and you are caught you will die. Do not complain that light armor needs a buff because you get 2-3 hit killed trying to stand toe to toe with a GH, spear and WH. You know that the WH and GH can stun you and kill you, don’t be there. Light armor is for mobility and for escaping.
In contrast, if you are a GA / WH player and cant catch a light armor wearer than that is your fault for picking a build that lacks ranged damage and with limited mobility. You picked a build that has the ability to take damage and in your face killing power. Just because that is your build doesn’t mean that you should have some great mobility buff or that light armor needs less mobility. Yes you are right, you cant catch them. That is how it is by design. -
If you are a glass canon mage and think you are going to stand toe to toe with a melee user, you are going to die. Same, if you think that you are going to fight a bow or musket in the open at a distance you are going to have problems. This doesn’t mean that the bow/musket needs to be overly nerfed, it means you need to learn how to play your class.
In contrast, if you are a melee and you see a big white snowy field on the ground or a big purple one and you stand in it thinking you can fight in it. You’re dead. This doesn’t mean that the mage weapon needs to be nerfed, it means you need to learn to not fight in their AOE. They are AOE mages, that is their weapon. Dont stand in their weapon. Some mages have very high con/armor and just love it when melee players stand still and spam abilities. And if you do want to fight in the AOE, see the next section. -
Potions, food, and gems, use them. Please dont yell nerf GA or WH because they hit to hard and you are wearing pearls in you armor. Each gem mitigates a certain damage and ability, learn it and use them properly. Its BIG! Potions and food… one of the biggest and best advantages in PvP. Learn to use them often and use the best ones that you can.
There are also many items in the game that gives a short duration of damage protection against certain damage types. Some provide elemental protection, some provide protection against physical damage. Some items increase weapon damage.
Example, a GA player goes in to attack a mage. The mage uses food, a stat buff potion, honing stone, and uses a physical damage item reducing all physical damage by 25% because they know that the GA will start with gravity well. GA players goes through all abilities and panic sets in because they did almost no damage to the mage. Rinse/repeat, mage uses heal potions to top off during cool downs. GA user doesn’t have a chance. Now GA user doesn’t know that mage has all of these items readily available on their hot-bar and the first thing GA user does it run to the forums and yell NERF MAGE! No… the mage player was prepared and has a better understanding of the tools available to win PvP encounters. So your forum post about Nerf this or that may just be an indication that you don’t have the PvP experience or skill level to compete with other players and builds. Nerfing a weapon or build will not make you a better player. -
Stop blaming the Devs! For the most part PvP is balanced if you use all the tools and abilities that the game provides. You are not going to win every fight, you are not going to beat every class. The class that beats you will lose to another class that you can beat easily. If you use the tools and items that the game provides it will be hard for any class to beat you. That is Balance!
And if you are wondering, I play firestaff in medium armor.
