Is it even possible to balance combat seperately for PvP and PvE in New World?
I have played my share of MMO’s and even back in 2004 when EQ2 launched they had the foresight to see that PvE and PvP needed to be balanced independently.
Now days I play with my family and it started off great, but nerf after nerf has lead us all to believe that we are playing the wrong game for us.
Fishing chest nerf - I understand why, however it still ruined the enjoyment
Healing nerfs
Weapon nerfs
Crafting nerfs
This is the first MMO for most of them and we are all over 40 years of age, so we try and play each weekend together, which probably makes us filthy casuals.
We are all over level 50 with some of us at 60 with legendary gear, yet we still aren’t able to progress the main story quest past the Depths Expedition as we keep getting wiped by Thorpe, which has cost a fortune in repair costs.
Has anyone been able to determine how many people have completed this expedition as the achievement is still bugged?
Are AGS looking at balancing the combat for PvE and PvP independently?
Is the intent to make the game geared towards the hardcore gamer and focused on group only content
Is solo content something they are considering? Even the last part of the christmas questline requires a group to complete.
I’m pretty sure we are playing the wrong game for us, which is fine, we aren’t demanding anything and are happy to change games. Just chasing some clarification that others might be aware of that I haven’t seen.
Depths is ez. Balance is very close. Also, your upset because the Winter Warrior requires a group? This is an mmo and yes, some content requires a group. You claim your whole family plays so you are threatening to leave and leveraging a whole family of accounts. I think your trolling.

For the record I’m not upset, it’s a game. I’m mature enough to know the difference between something that is for entertainment and something that actually matters.
It doesn’t matter to me if I play or not, the whole intent of my post is for clarification as to the games direction because it feels like that direction has changed.
I don’t think the video blog really addressed the questions I’m asking, if anything it gave glimpses of them balancing combat solely on PvP and their intent to make the game harder through the addition of mutators.
It looks bleak for a numpty like me that can’t even finish a level 40 expedition.
Watch some YT vids on Depths. There are some tips and tricks that will help you greatly. Make sure everyone has a decent build, pots, coatings, honing stones. Even the cheap low tier ones make a huge difference. If everyone in your group pops a lowly weak honing stone (4%) then as a group youll be more effective. Also lay down under Thorpe’s laser or get behind him.
Of course it can be done, but AGS mentality on that is: we don’t want to develop two games or split resources.
Although I understand their position I think it will hurt the game in the end because you will always have both sides at odds with each other. buff/nerf something due to PvP? PvE players will complain… and viceversa
