rip anything that isnt meta, so lame rlly.
I’m using a rapier with 200 Dex, 150 Int and 100 cons. With the right build and gear, it hits hard. Way, way harder than my strength build does. My strength build excels because it does plenty of damage AND provides lots more CC, it’s easier and there are lots of weapon choices to switch to (so many choices, all very viable without much adjustment). But straight-line DPS from the rapier is gnarly, with the evade build.
The thing is, the main reason I’m getting more damage is because I’m properly synergised on the attributes and I’m amping up the damage via the gem in the weapon. But if you do that, you lose all your damage on the sword and probably can’t really get enough hit points either (I have just over 10k hp with food and H&H town buff - absolutey fine, when the rapier is used right, but not nearly enough for a tanky build and with medium armour it’s a glass cannon).
The game does allow some really neat mixed builds. I’ve managed to run a viable (PVE) heal DPS build, sort of like a Paladin on steroids. It was fun. But, as with many hybrids, it’s not the best at anything.
The rapier is, in my own humble opinion, not a great weapon if you don’t want to properly push its strengths (and so, you do lose some flexibility). And this is, in general, the issue with Dex builds in my experience. Strength based builds give you tons of flex. Except for the fact you gain ranged as an option, Dex builds don’t. Not if you want to excel at something. And you’re not even gaining ranged with your build.
But, a properly set up rapier build can solo Mangled bosses (including Moz, Articulon and the priest), all of Caminus and quite a lot of elite bosses otherwise. I can sort of do the same with a strength build, if I also carry a healing staff (but not Moz or Caminus Gate Lord, I just spend too much time not doing damage). So yeh… take that as you will. I doubt you’d get that level of damage and survivability with a sword and rapier build. But maybe you can try 200/150/100 (dex/int/cons) and at least get some decent DPS with the ability to block. It might be fun. But you won’t be great at anything, I don’t think.
i use the grace tree indeed, dash , riposte, fleche , trying to get up close n personal with dodges and heavy’s ( light spam is a absolute joke with my numbers , 900 a hit), its just extremely frustrating to actually outplay people but when they hit you, you lose a good ass chunk of hp, and u get them they almost can passive heal it off, lmao. and spamming while using evade in time or a shift dodge for the opal boost doesnt rlly cut it either you will still take too much dmg from aoe’s BUT im gonna double read your tip and see if i can salvage anything from it to my benefit thanks for the reply!
I think rapier is kind of gimped by heavy armor. You can’t use dodge+heavy to benefit riposte for instance.
yes i can, 2,5 sec is alot in pvp
the real issue is that the dmg that comes out of a backstab , half stam opal gemmed 600gs rapier with rogue perk is only a measily 1,5k
Same build i grab bow, bam 7k crits np… so yeah
apperently it makes sense to have less dmg on close combat.
The only time when i actually deal dmg if i put DPI super high make a circle with fleche in my target and come out with a backstab, and even that is equal to a hammer doing 1 heavy XD…
Now that I think about it, you do have extra Cc duration being heavy. So you can walk around even I guess xD.
yes but either im a fullblown idiot ( i might be ) but if i am using up my CD’s (also using gap closer on sword + shield bash for another free rapier backstab + fleche ) , i use up like 4cd’s easily and this guy can just passively heal it off, yes i can play more aggressive, but then i am not playing with my food anymore and more or less reckless facediving dps in. ( usually ends up with me losing 70% of my hp even if land a kill or not)
then i look at other weapons and its just clear to me, that either rapier is a defensive weapon thats not allowed to big boi , or something im missing ( using all the stuff n things to buff dmg)
Like i get the light attack spam shouldnt be doing 3k a hit that would just break rapier, but my heavies AT LEAST PLZ.
1,5-2k heavy attack on voidbent player)
My stats 350 int
50dex
50 con.
Light armour.
It’s hard to kill voidbent, but with medium and light armor it is ok.
super intresting, i wonder why its a primary dex , secondary int wep when u have better results on a higher int spread. il give this a try out, thanks!
I might still be screwed cuz of my heavy set tho… but everything else feels like paper
I use topaz gem for conversion also
And I use light armor)
20% bonus damage
yeah i dont wanna play ranged/rapier so i need some armor to go in, i do like rapier however as a close 1v1 duel weapon, it has things that appeal to me. but idk, i guess il just watch a vid on what meta is now and just re-roll meta. feel like my creativity to look outside of meta builds got punished ( lots of respecs lost like 3k gold on that , had to buy different set of jewerly (as my gear is con mainly)
time to grab the good ol hammer… yay
ags u win, il play your “meta” untill it bores me to death.
Pure dex builds only works with a bow. If you want to deal dmg with rapier or Musket you have to go 150 Int +gem. Dex just feels bad besides the bow.
And somewhere is a boy trying to make a str based healer but sadly both of these ideas are simply nuts. ^^
I’m playing Fs/rapier, mid/close aggresive.
Light armor lets me not to take damage at all if I’m lucky)
Heavy armor is just dull gameplay.
20% on base dmg. If you have like 300 points it will downscale. I tested that with medium armor and 350 points in Dex. The diffrence between light and medium armor was around 6% and not 10%. Not rlly worth in my opinion. Max medium loudout is the way.
You loose dodge roll, that is must have with rapier.
Ga/wh/hatchet can just spam abilities in close, rapier - cant, it has good burst damage and that is it’s gameplay.
haha xD LOLed hard at that one,
tho dex is not focus
stop teasing me! there are dex melee weps so i figured it wasnt too far from the realm of possibilities… on another note tho, tanking expeditions with taunt gemmed rapier/sword is amazingly fun as im able to stam manage and use riposte on stuff that would send me to the hospital, bit better timing needed then simply holding a hatchet, but it appeals ^.^ so i wish to play it.
i played every armor type, and yes rolling away seeing them all fail has its charm. but no way in hell is close combat in heavy , actively dodging things DULL. its challenging as i cant roll to narnia if i dont feel like fighting. And i dont like dying either even tho it has no concequences.
