Question about reaching 600 GS

Taking my time, I am finally reaching a 600 GS for some of my equipment - mainly through gypsum casts. My question is what is the optimal way to reach 625?

My understanding is I can use shards to upgrade a gear item to 625 and that will simultaneously raise the same item’s GS to 625. Then I can use gypsum casts to hunt for a more optimal item and get some shards as well.

Or should I start at the TP and buy a 600 item that I want to keep and follow the upgrade process above?

I just want to make sure I am not wasting limited shards on upgrading gear.

Thanks for letting know if I understand the big picture and any suggestions for a good strategy.

Great question. Looking forward to the answers too!

You have a very low chance finding anything useful out of a cast.

You need to get a named drop, get lucky with a random drop, find gear on the tp, or get lucky on random crafting.

You want to find 590 to 600 gear with the right attributes and perks for your build and upgrade that.

If your not rich, doing 1 to 5 rolls per slot crafting and picking the best is viable for getting gear to do expeditions. Then do gypsum and mutators for umbral for upgrades replacing upgrades as you get them.

Dont get to attached to a piece because you upgraded it. Better perks for your build? Swap it out start upgrading. Especially weapons. I know quite a few people that pushed weapons to 625 and realized later they should of been looking for upgrades.

If you dont do alot of mutators focusing on weapons is good for exp bumps so you get more and more shards with casts.

Also… save every viable boe or bop armor you get incase you want to chamge specs. Its a lot easier and cheaper than trying to sell or salvage that gear and need it later.

Keep an eye for gear with wards and good attribute and perks. Those are very important at high mutators.

God rolls and bis rolls are so rare you can be happy on most gear with 2 good perks to begin with or youll never setfoot in content.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Sonickat. As a follow up, what does boe and bop stand for in terms of armor?

I should of just said armor. Those refer to bind on pickup or bind on equip.

Essentially, I’m a pack rate. I actually have and play viable specs for all 3 combat roles in PVE. I can only do that because early on I made the decision to dedicate storage to the process. I have a single storage shed for each attribute including Con. The highest # of an attribute on the piece that is where the item goes. I don’t keep trash attribute pairs. If it doesn’t have an obvious two weapon build that is popular I don’t keep it.

So then if the attributes meet those criteria it needs at least 1 perk for a weapon of that attribute type or has to have really good utility perks.

The exception is named items that I know go legendary at 600. I save 1 of each legendary beacuse you never know if thats going to be useful or if they are gong to tweak the perks on it.

That allowed me to have a very large pool of drops to choose from when I decided to put together my Str Melee build and eventually my Dex/Int rapier /bow build. Even though I ran all those mutations and dungeons as a Tank. Otherwise it would of cost me thousands of gold to get the pieces and i would of been subject to RNG or what was available.

Oh yeah. Must be 590 to qualify so you can upgrade it to 600 and 625. Don’t bother saving anything 589 or lower imo.

For weapons… look for weapons with proper attributes for the weapon…good perks…and bane perks. The 15% damage bonus is huge and once you get up thee and have shards to spare it can make your dps better in certain instances.

Tempest’s Heart has very good PVE drops for all builds. If you are focused on PVE, I suggest to get some purple gear from TP, cheapest you can get to farm Genesis and Lazarus until you get better gear. Then you can farm Tempest for the armor sets you like and weapons. Afterwards you can focus on mutations to get more shards and upgrade your gear. If you are focused on PVP on the other hand, you need gold, lots of gold

As the post above me suggested, keep every named item you find. As long as it is a named item with at least 590 GS, you can upgrade it to 600 and make it a legenday

Start building a mutation set and get as high up on mutations as you can when you hit 600. Make sure to do dailies for the gypsum but by far the easiest way is to run mutation level 10’s. Once there shards aren’t to hard to get, but getting there will take some time. God Speed

Just try to rush the highest mutation you can and farm it. In two days of grind you can have 625
