I think most of all of these questions are answered in the dev video and the various summaries posted around, but:
From an access to content, gear, stc, akaik, it doesn’t. They said no content is paywalled, just access to more cosmetic rewards and things like that.
They are transforming a zone into new content. Afaik, they didn’t say if paid or free, but I would bet paid.
The rewards track differences have to do with cosmetics and some qol stuff. Nothing to do with combat.
Dang, I hope not. Reaching level cap in many mmos, including nw, has always really been just the beginning of the end game journey. Leveling to 625, acquiring the proper gear, etc is something you really dig into at 60. We can quibble over how much grinding a player should need to do to be able to do any specific content, but if they tune the raids, for instance, to be successfully completable by a fresh 60 with 590-600 gs and generic pve gear, it’s not really end game content. And I don’t say this as an elite player running out of m10s on Thursday, but as a middling casual who only now is getting to the point that I have decent situational gear and the ability to successfully complete higher level dungeons.
The Free Track grants “a variety of helpful rewards like Marks of Fortune, Boost Tokens, seasonal weapons and armor, Umbral Shards, Gypsum Orbs, and caches of materials.”
Since the two tracks are exclusive, I would expect that the Premium Track provides additional quantities of all of these things over and above what the Free Track offers, in addition to the cosmetics on the Premium Track.
I’m simply looking to clarify that the tracks are actually independent (you’re only on one track at any given time), and that they’re offering the same things (with the possible exception of some cosmetics) albeit in different quantities.
If that’s the case, then switching to the Premium Track at or near the end of the season will grant the rewards of both tracks, since the rewards for Premium are granted retroactively.
Buying at the end of season maximizes the gain - if you’re on Premium at the start of season, you’re only earning Premium … if you buy the Season Pass at end of season, then you’ve already earned all (or nearly all) the Free Track rewards for the season, in addition to the Premium rewards that are gained retroactively with purchase.
I mean it can only be assumed the expansion is paid in a game without a subscription. If it was free I would be amazed.
The season pass does not gate any content from what they said in the dev video. In fact the free track gives marks of fortune based on what they said as well so you can technically get free premium tracks as well, we don’t know how much but maybe every few you get a free premium?
Not sure how to answer they other questions but hopefully that helps. This monetization style seems like the best possible situation for this game moving forward.
