yeah, open world pvp like you said is hard to balance out and theres always a chance to get zerged.
Im all in favor of instanced pvp, but i think open world pvp also needs to be there for a mmo.
A good way to avoid zerging and camping would be to add timed random drops on the map with people nearby can see and only people who are flagged can loot.
Good example was the gleamite meteor they did for winter event. Now imagine even if they make it pretty rare but make the loot really worth while and the drop only lasts like 5 - 10 mins. That would make people roam around flagged always to just quickly get to the location before someone else does.
With OPR taking AGES to que up at times, I know for a fact that people would sign up for 1v1 2v2 3v3 5v5s with constant ques popping. So yea, INFINITE BUMP
Also i dont think ranked should be added until balance is in a good place
Oh please for the love of God no. If they came up with incentives to actually make open world PvP a regular thing then you would see plenty of small scale action. That would be far better than what you’re proposing. There are so many arena PvP games; what draws me to NW is that it still has the potential to be a great non-arena PvP game, something that we simply don’t have, but they keep toning that back more and more, and here you are asking for them to go even further towards making the PvP here just as generic and boring as every other MMO.
u can improve open world with other things such world boss in pvp obligated areas, but this game has so much potential in pvp, funny and skillfull they’ve to put arenas on it and some competitive, for real. And do u think that a guy who loves pvp will not go to pvp open world because the arenas? the pvp lovers like me will be always in the fights, arenas or open world, but if in this case there are no arenas and most of the time no pvp in open world, we will leave soon if we can’t prove our skills and equipment in some arenas, there are some ultimatums by the community to the staff.
would be awesome to include several decorated maps so attract people to like the environments they fight in besides 1 lame one. like a underground one, a nature looking one, maybe even a island (invisible wall borders of course)
I think that both options are needed to be a more solid game, there is proof and good evidence that PVP ARENAS WORK, because it creates a solid competitive enviroment of players that are looking for the feeling of progress and exclusivity in which they can show their skills and feel empowered, ranked arenas gives players all of that, it gets addictive and attract players, because it gives satisfaction and make people’s brain to feel good with compensation neurotransmissors. Anything that can become addictive has a great potential of being a success, that’s why all successful videogames that still trascending time and being played constantly are so good, because their developers develop an addictive code. It would be great that devs, as professionals, consider this to attract players and make big cash with this game, I can say it, this game has great potential to be exploted, but devs are seeing nothing or AGS are not seeing the gold mine that this game is.
OPR is a dead brainless mode that takes an hour or more for queue to pop because it requires 40 people to queue for it, if there were 2v2/3v3 arenas it would only take 4/6 people queueing for it to pop which would mean constant pops and constant matches. Not to mention arenas would be far more competitive and suitable for future balancing than any pvp mode there is in the game since balancing for individual skill >>> balancing for brainless zerg rushes like war (which wouldn’t be balanced even with weapon changes due to defenders having 80% win rate by default)
I understand that you want PvP Arenas but in the current weapon balance state it will be a big mess. We need to see weapon balance basics fixed first but we are far away from that.
Anyways good luck fighting two mages playing IG/VG using OP abilties in a small scale fight.
u can’t balance the fact of doing a duel with lf vs another lf or even a lifestaff with heavy and sword and shield, u can not kill that, just delete them from 1vs1.
If there was 1v1 arena, I’d hope lifestaff heal effectiveness gets cut by half specifically inside the arena, and if both players are still alive at the end of the round, the winner is decided by who did more damage.
