Hey we all get frustrated… But that said there is no need to dismiss my opinion as ignorant. You are not arguing the game at this point, but my ability to form an opinion. Which isn’t ok and actually doesn’t make a case for why you think roots are balanced. If you are happy to stick to the subject and not just try to paint me as someone to be ignored, then I am happy to carry on the discussion.
If I wanted to discuss the PTR I would have chosen that area of the forum to discuss it. I am more than happy to have my mind changed when the patch releases. Other than duels no one will get a sense of balance until it hits live anyway IMO…
You took what I said about the rapier very literally. What I meant was they are in effective. Yes you can riposte, but it won’t actually protect your for the duration of most roots. Fleche and evade don’t work at all. This was a tad pedantic I feel and an attempt to point score rather than address the point I was making. Regardless you are talking about one skill on one weapon. Of course you can cast any skill in a root… It doesn’t mean it will help!
Clearly our priorities are different. I care that combat feels balanced and feels good. Melee will always dominate capture points… This won’t ever be different and wouldn’t make sense for it to be… Rooting may stop them I framing, but a melee build built to hold points will sensibly be in heavy armor.
Again we all get frustrated, but this is the wrong area to discuss the PTR. I was actually tempted to play this time, because the changes look good!
Yes I am trying to get across that it isn’t personal, but it just doesn’t seem like you’ve put any research into whether nerfs are needed in addition to what is on the ptr. IU am saying you need roots because melee as a whole got a massive buff this patch and roots are the only things that counter them. Slows and staggers are a joke because you can iframe/grit right through them.
Make no mistake - I consider your opinion ignorant and not worthy of consideration. You are advising on future changes without testing the changes already slated. I am not accepting your “wait until it’s live, that’s just the ptr” argument. These changes ARE going live. They need to be considered and tested prior to any additional nerfs.
I spoke about gravity well like one or two posts up. On live you can use abilities to break out of gravity well. As far as I know you can still do this on PTR
Grav well now applies a full root for 1 second. You can’t fleche out of the root.

You can riposte into evade in a root. Riposte first and evade will give you an iframe even if it doesn’t move you. Then you will be able to fleche unless you were screamed under 50%. If you get CC’d under 50% you die against most good players, but honestly you can straight up remove that perk. Nobody needs 3s root.
I brought this up because it currently works and you don’t seem to know about it. It wasn’t some cheap attempt to score points - it was pointing out that you are not even using the best combo in the game for surviving scream.
So yes - to someone who doesn’t owe you the benefit of the doubt it looks like you are arguing an ignorant opinion. At least you aren’t lying like most of the melee who post on these forums. They would be saying they have 500 hours logged on the current ptr,
I won’t discuss this with you anymore. I read until you belittled me again… Nothing will ever be resolved if they can’t be discussed civilly… I don’t agree with your thoughts and also think they’re ignorant, but I choose not to show that because that would be counter intuitive to a meaningful discussion.
Balance will always be subjective it is always going to be formed from individual experience. You’d have a more productive conversation in future if you keep that in mind.

100%. This game is being killed by range. Light armor and range. There is no punishment for these guys and catching them is very hard. By the time i get through the point of an OPR i’m slowed, bleeding, poisoned, ice walled and dead. People are abusing this way too hard. It’s so hard as a melee player right now unless you have a full dominating zerg. Ice wall, heavy IG slow, ice storm, VG being OP with heals. It’s all just too much. As a melee player, if a mage gets near me or even 3, I should be able to do some heavy damage. They should be punished, bottom line. Gotta fix the slows and roots. I shouldn’t be slowed for 5-7 seconds. I just sit there and get lit up by fire bombs, muskets and bows and then a maelstrom to call it a day. Honestly just keep Ice Storm and have it slow a little bit. Ice wall is completely broken, then they have a heavy attack that slows. Somethings gotta give, a lot of people feel this way. Plus i cannot charge out of ice wall? what is this bs? but a rapeir player can roll through my grav? lol.
The game overall just feels like a range/mage field day. Muskets, bows, slows, roots, it’s not good. I know other melee folk feel the same way (maybe not spear/rapier players since they can fly out of everything and riposte a 5 man mob) I don’t think range should have stuns, slows or roots honestly. They’re range for christ sake. Melee need this for the kit to hold them down. The only thing I think should have a slow is Ice Storm. Thats it. A little slow down for like 2-3 seconds, then back to full speed. No ICe Wall, no heavy Ice slow, no roots, nothing. The knockback on bow and musket, ok, not bad. But these slows gotta go. Too much to handle
Sounds like you play poorly and will be quitting after you find out the game is multiplayer. Also, read patch notes before you dig up a two week old post. The last post was 12 days ago. Know why nobody is posting? Because the weapon has been nerfed once and is having its root duration cut in half.
Also, you are the only one posting since grav well got the strongest root in the game.
Sounds like you’re a super salty guy that plays VG/IG lol. Just voicing my opinions and they are extremely valid. I’ve been playing eSports and MMO’s professionally all my life. I know what’s broken and what’s good in games. I even develop as well. A blind person could see the issues and would agree with me. And I’m a very good player with GA/WH, but I don’t need to prove that to you. I just wanted to voice my opinions, idc how old the post is. Melee should have a Grav well and stun. We are melee. Everyone else is light armor flying around, use your brain. Look at you taking the time to reply to my comment you salty dog lol. Go to bed.
Nah im with the other guy. Ive had to adapt my build over and over again so i can be competitive in pvp. I went from FS/ IG to IG/Rapier to IG/VG to FS/VG. It sounds like you are unwilling to adapt to different playstyles within youre build. As a FS/VG player I can tell you a competent S+S/WH with good positioning can most certainly catch any mage out. Especially since so few use the S+S lunge many dont realize just how far it can go. This build also allows for a constant stun lock. Ive literally been 100-00’d by a guy with this exact build because I even underestimated the build.

You’re a professional e sports player who develops? I can’t tell if you are trolling lol. Good players don’t say the dumb stuff you just said.
This isn’t a tab targeting MMO where there are distinct roles that just turbo stomp each other. This is a skill based MMO, if you are getting beat as badly as you say you are above the other player is just better than you and has practiced more. If your solution to that is to just nerf weapons until you win “every time someone gets close to you” or so you can just run at people with no skill and kill them this isn’t the game for you.
I agree. as a melee user running in opr against a team with 10-15 ice guantlet users is freaking frustrating!! Thats all everyone runs is ice gauntlet and im SICK of not being able to dodge and getting rooted 5 times in a row, and not doing any damage back because they use Ice tomb and roll away before any damage can be done.
@2GramDabs Then why are you sick of IG if you are killing them so easily even though you can’t do damage back because of Ice Tomb.
So you are just running around killing all the IG and topping the leaderboards, but you want them nerfed more because you are just that much more skilled and know a fair fight when you see one?
You have a listening problem. Never said I’m getting beaten badly, do you read? 99% of people agree woth me and even the devs as they are making even more future changes to help woth my complaints and many others. My complaint isn’t about players or getting beaten it’s about broken abilities. It’s about the whole dynamic pea brain. Play against some good players with IG/VG it’s a joke. Constantly having to dump resources into a massive slow, root or ice wall. It’s to ez to kill someone in that scenario with the high dps and range players blasting you. That’s all I’m saying.
100% this right here. Had an opr earlier with a few melee, rest was all mage lmao. 5-6 ice storms, you go to charge at them they roll away in light armor you will never catch them unless they suck. Not to mention you are getting slowed and ripped apart by other range musket and bow on your way to get the damn ig guy then he tombs and rolls away again for another cat and mouse chase. I said it before get rid of ice wall honestly that’s a start. As a medium ga/wh user the best we can do attempt to catch them, or just zerg with a group and use our abilities.
