This is without a doubt the most over exaggerated PvE experience Iāve heard
BUT
I do admire your seriousness towards something youāre unfamiliar with but it really shows your skill level if you had to prep this much for what a lot of people consider an introductory experience to dungeonāing in NW. No one cares about speed that much at that stage of the game and that guy was just immature or trying to be funny and you missed the joke, end of.
All the best to you on NW but the main game is at least x4 harder than this with or without prep and Iām not trying to intimidate or blow my own trumpet, Iāve been playing high ranked league/Tekken and korean mmoās for well over 10 years.
Yes youāre right, your comment does breed insecurity. Iāve had to deal with your kind a few times while I was guild master. āPulling your weightā, by whomās metric? What if youāre a hard caster and the boss requires a lot of movement? What if youāre a melee and the boss has loads of close ranged AoE attacks? Thatās just 2 scenarios that affects your precious DPS meter. So when you say āpulling your weightā you mean āIf I deem you beneath me I can say what I wantā. Thanks for proving everything wrong with DPS meters and why they have no place what so ever in any game, ever.
Iām glad Iām not the only one, in some morbid way.
I basically donāt do dungeons, itās odd because I used to do them fine, but the drama rarely involving me! I was disappointed that the main quest was in a Dungeon. Somehow I managed to do Amrine because I went there without reading the quest and didnāt know it was a dungeon and as I got there I was invited to a boost. Not a paid one, some level 60 was just bored and I happened along at the right time.
Now I need to do another one⦠so Iāve dacked in the main story and instead focus on crafting. MMOās should be solo friendly imo. If people only had to team up through choice it would be better for everyone.
Makes you appreciate FFXIV a lot more, doesnāt it?
And building a nice community isnāt that hard - all you need to do is to have right policies in place:
-No DPS meters in chat (all the people screaming āyou donāt like meters 'cos you suckā can go f themselves)
-Forceful āadviceā is bannable offence (check out the new policy from Square Enix with specific examples)
-0 tolerance for harassment, racism etc across the board, dealt with manually not semi-auto
Apply this policy for few months and all the shitheads will leave to other places (and yes, maybe some ākewlā elitists will leave also but its not exactly a big loss either)
The one thing that makes me laugh isnāt the fact that people make these posts demanding changes from Devs, itās the raw fact alone that people expect these MMORPG releases to be any different for the first few months, I mean look at world of warcraft there are still gold sellers spamming every world years after release lol itās never going to stop unless thereās a specific algorithm that blocks specific messages to be sent but then they just reword it and keep doing it, on top of that keep seeing people complaining about ālack of contentā well yeah you blow through the level grind in 2 days expect there to be no content - being max level in any MMO tends to be that way doing the same dungeons or just doing PvP while waiting for the next big update, like yeah again look at games that have been out for years like WoW, itās still the same system
Or because you canāt count on being able to find people. I have been looking for people to do an quest, that turns out, you have to kill 2 elites, that are together. But the quest dosenāt let you know. Because apparently, that is above the intelligence level of the delopers, to add it, to the quest. I have been there 2 times now, for kills. But because the game is so poorly designed, i still havenāt gotten credit for a kill. Iām level 60, yet i take about 40% damage from one of them. The game is a pile of garbage, designed by people that shouldnāt be working on games like this
DPS meters are objective proof of whether or not Iām wasting my time. As youāve clearly proven, lack of meters doesnāt prevent poor behavior; Thereās no reason that guy should be complaining when the content was smoothly cleared.
However, if people arenāt contributing to a run and refuse to take constructive criticism, itās not my job to bang my head into a wall hoping they suddenly start performing. If I join a random group doing a dungeon with corrupted mobs and the DPS are using Ice Gauntlets and Warhammers, itās really easy for me to tell why things arenāt going smoothly, but DPS meters make it objectively clear for all if anyone isnāt pulling their weight.
As a byproduct of missing metrics, New Worldās PvE isnāt exactly challenging, which is a shame because theyāve sacrificed so much quality elsewhere to try and deliver PvE content.
There are a lot of people who treat every facet of the game as a competition where someone is best and someone is worst. Dungeons are a team activity. You work together, you support each other.
As a healer, Iāve seen DPS drop off attacking the boss to pick off a mob thatās getting in my personal space. Iāve seen others reposition for the next mechanic. Their numbers wonāt be as high as succmybigDPS69 but if it makes a fight more comfortable, great. If we win in the end, awesome! If a DPS is trying to show off and takes my focus off the tank, itās not worth the faster kill speed. Sometimes a smooth 3 minute fight is more fun than a more chaotic 2 minute fight.
Good on OP. Iāve gotten to group with some really great people so far. Mistakes have been made, people have supported each other, weāve rooted for each other. Iāve also had to deal with more toxic members. You keep track and friend those you enjoy. After a while you have a long list of people to run things with. The people who feel their time is wasted if a run takes a few minutes longer will group with like-minded people.
whatās there to miss? a bunch of people complaining about beating the game in 2 days to find thereās nothing to do? Or even complaining about toxic community, i mean go hit max level in any MMORPG what do you get
This is pretty typical of games which require grinding, personally I think itās also endemic to holy trinity games which require the old tank, healer, dps setups. Many other modern MMOās have gotten away from this. I had a similar experience with Amrine, our group was accused of not DPSing enough, but the real issue was the mobs were not tanked, pulled, parked or kept so we were running all over the place.
This is coming from an old raid healer in EQ and EQ2, our raids were tracked in real time with tools such as ACT and if you didnāt heal, tank or dps enough you were reprimanded. That was my younger days, these days there is no way I would accept that level of anxiety. But itās inherent in this type of MMO and it will be difficult to get away from. What do I hear in global chat? Calls for zerg groups and grinding groups. I donāt necessarily mind grinding, but there needs to be something else besides that.
