The tax rates need to be hard coded. Very few of the people running companies are mature enough to handle such a powerful ability. The taxes are getting maxed far to often for malicious reasons. You gave them the ability. They massively failed with having that power. Now take it away from them.
All towns I saw taxes are rather low… also, is fun and I find interesting, will the town reduce taxes and keep them low to attract players? (Wich is something hard as we got the trifecta of Windsward, Everfall and Brightwood beeing the richest).
Or they will crush everyone on taxes because they need the money?
I’d say: Add more game intro this mecanic! Allow people to donate directly towards the treasury of the townhall (not the company) so is possible to raid it in Conflict (maybe even doing so, Influence reduces a 40% or whole resets, as no one will trust the faction that raided your town), or that the company can use to pay upkeep or proyects.
Very few people leading companies in this game are mature enough to have that power. The server I’m on it happens constantly. One company will own multiple towns. They get pissy for whatever reason and jack the taxes to max. They did this again in multiple cities 2 days before they transferred their whole company to a new server. So we had a couple of the main trade cities with max taxes for 2 days. That was wonderful /sarcasm off.
Like I said. They were given the power. They abused it and showed they couldn’t be trusted with that power. Now it must be taken from them. The taxes at min levels are already ass high. Letting these jerkoffs set property tax to 20% is idiotic.
I was about to open a new topic about that ingame politics does matter.
I am speaking as the ex governor on Sawvenhem on Syndicate, that managed to buy Restless Shores.
To try to promote the city, I lowered taxes as much I could, but there was no one to visit it and no one wanted. Again, Everfall, Windsward and Brightwood hold too much power in terms of trade that shadow any other city.
Why does I said that politics matter? Well, if you find that taxes are high and want get rid of them, do plan wars, build alliances with other factions and war, take the city and lower taxes.
Tough, sometimes upkeep is high that high taxes are the only posible solution.
I agree for rent, but crafting/trading post tax can stay. otherwise it be too hard to raise town upkeep money for the guild who controls it… unless when you attack a guild controlled region you take their whole treasury (unless this already happens as im not sure)
