fireball, shockwave, maelstrom, and grav are most of the things you going to need to dodge to not die in a clump
if something needs to change about dodges its not i-frames. personally i think its the distance covered and the ability to move faster by dodging that light armor has.
the entire idea of reduced damage over full blown invul is from old D&D. get hit with a fireball spell you can save for half damage or otherwise if a rogue you negate it.
alternatively if the game could calculate it. from a semi realistic point of view, and with distances, if you dodge OUT of a aoe area as it goes off you dont take damage however if you are just dodging in place you take partial.
I think we need to remove Iframes near the end of dodges, so players cannot just seamless iframe by chaining dodge. This would give players an opportunity to punish dodge spamming, and reward good timing.
Haha old or not, I think it’s pretty cool. Whether or not they can pull it off is another thing. Sometimes simplicity beats or overly complicated systems but I think it might help with the dodging meta a little as well as making blocking more enticing.
ya all these light roll dodging goons make this game ridiculous, its literally impossible to catch any rapier wielding light roll dodger if you are melee, they just run for days with their unlimited iframe running away.
I would like that but i dont know about a stagger mechanic too. If yall think riposte is broken imagine that shit lmao would be a for honor situation with melee on melee. Shield bash could stun be able to block during the animation and a weapon perk could be deflect magic and ranged. Also adding a stamina gain/regen from prefect block would make yall heavies be gods. Also makes empowering breaker a more sought after perk.
No? I mean, what on earth would dodges even be for without iframes? You literally wouldn’t “dodge” anything if that were the case. If dodging were neutered to this point, block stamina would have to be massively buffed – because as is it’s too easy to break blocks and get a free stun – in which case you’ve just got a different problem.
But you can’t chain dodge because it costs a huge amount of stamina, stalls your stamina regen, and with the next patch, you’ll also not dodge as far so it won’t even be a great escape tool.
This whole idea of the reworking the iframe is intriguing.
I like the idea of the dodge not being an iframe but rather a % damage reduction.
I think CON should be the stat for blocking increasing both your STA and your HP.
DEX can be the Dodge monkey w/ additional mitigation when being hit while dodging like a monk deflecting the attack.
STR already has Grit. They lose the iframe. If they want to survive in melee they need to get better at blocking and if that isn’t enough invest in CON instead of running glass cannon builds.
To balance all this I would implement these features as 300 attribute perks in each teir so you can’t have the benefit of any 2.
I played this game for something like 5 months before I realized that the dodges had iframes. I thought dodges only worked if you, you know, dodged out of the way.
Quite frankly, it was mind-boggling. You mean I can dodge entirely within an AoE’s range of effect, and not take damage? Whaaaat?
I remain not a fan. I support the title: remove iframes from dodges.
Interesting. The main issue people have with dodge is not the iframe, is the mobility. Why not keep the iframe but cut the dodge distance in half. It will still be longer than heavy/medium but not 10m
This way range will have the advantage while playing range ( go figure ) and not rabbit into 5 people riposting left and right
