I would certainly hope so! I love trying out new weapon combinations and seeing which various attribute point perks I can make use of in a new build. The struggle is finding gear to go along with the build! If it was easier to craft the specific gear I wanted, I would likely craft a lot more than i do now.
Mostly I just gamble on OPR caches, since it is mainly PVP that I find exciting, due to the randomness of humanity. Scripted PVE encounters are fun figuring them out, but once you figure them out and are able to execute them nearly flawlessly, they lose their luster from repetition ad nauseum.
My point is the ammo has thbe lowest bearing on this. Players who use bow and musket don’t do it because the ammo is free to use in OPR. But sure, it might be the reason they play it at all. I don’t use bow or musket but I blast through thousands of orichalcum ammo a day. Just so my weapon can maintain its designed power.
It used to be consumable and it was awful. Arena has it spot on with zero consumable usage. But the BB uses thousands of rounds more than both bows and muskets because of the nature of it. Your change would ruin OPR for me. I don’t use bow or musket.
I’d be happier if they actually deleted the option to use all consumables in OPR, so you could only use the potions you can buy (and then maybe make it so azoth was obtained for PVP kills as well). But there are only three weapons that must use ammo lest they’re gimped. It’s utter garbage to suggest they should have to support the cost of maintaining that just to play OPR.
Orichalchum ammo costs an absolute ton to maintain for normal players. And it’s entirely besides the point as to why there are a lot of bows or muskets in OPR. I’d be happy if the concept of ammo was eradicated from the game anyway.
You’d probably be right that it’d reduce the numbers of these players if it was changed back; some would just not play OPR any longer because it’s not fair to have to pay for something no one else does. But that’s just reducing the number of players playing OPR, not making them switch to another weapon because that’s free to use. And the ones that really irritate you? Most of them can afford the cost anyway.
And you have them. You just get to make a choice as to whether or not you insist on ori ammo for everything. I have ~8k ori arrows as a an ammo load usually, and when that dips to 3k I make another big batch. I also keep 5k starmetal arrows because for damned near everything that isn’t an elite mob or another player the dps loss is trivial. If I’m in a <60 area farming then I may not use either one and just use the free infinite ammo.
You have agency, you have choices, choices have consequences.
I personally love the idea that every swing of the sword costs 0.7g, unless you opt to use a sword that does 5% less damage, in which case it’ll cost 0.5g per swing. If you want one that does 20% less damage then you get to swing it for free, it’s awesome.
If this is all just about how fun choices and consequences are then I say let’s roll that game play out to everyone.
I too make my own bullets. It’s a huge time sink. I do not think this is wonderful game play. It’s single-handledly the worst aspect about opting to play BB. I blast through a stupid amout in a single session because to maintain its full potential I fire it at a higher rate than bow or musket.
I’ll cane 1000 rounds in two expeditions (more if it’s corrupted as the BB is always the better option for me in those). If I do the full 25 a week then that’s about 12-13k bullets. To craft that requires 130 ori ingots and no fewer than 390 infused silk. It’s the silk that takes the p*** but when you put all that together it’s a good 3-4 hours gathering. Now, I obviously have to make the decision to preserve my stock when I can, like you. As much as this is an absolute pain to manage because I’m forever switching ammo out throughout the session, I do it because it’s the only way to maintain my sanity and still use the weapon I have chosen to use.
But when it comes to OPR, I absolutely love the fact I do not need to make this choice. It was utter garbage when we used to have to do this.
Ask any melee or magic weapon player if they’d be happy to need to do that grind once every week just to use their weapon at full effectiveness. I’m sure they’d jump at it. I mean, I use other weapons sometimes. Not needing to faff with ammo is the primary reason it’s a relief.
I think it was changed to actually try to help one game of 40/40 to get initiated at all.
I agree though, all rules should be constant in a game. If PVE gets charged consumables(and have to wear luck gear) then so should all players everywhere. This bullcrap where two worlds are suppose to thrive and play together existing in the same space is not working.
I think AGS could learn a lot from how WoW encouraged players to choose needed roles for dungeons, by giving bonuses to even out the queue times, for tanks or healers, as DPS are a dime a dozen.
Similarly, AGS could give rewards to certain “classes” of players based on weapon choices, to encourage more build diversity in OPR.
Fundamentally, OPR map needs to either be updated or more maps created for OPR, so that the ranged gameplay that is currently favored by the terrain is less prevalent in the main OPR map or any additional OPR maps.
spear, rapier, obviously, This goes for PVE as well.
Running m10’s where the mobs explode is a night and day difference on Easy Street when you switch to grit. Playing spear or rapier and your constantly - and ANNOYINGLY, slapped around.
Strength grit is too good - either give all melee grit for everything, or overhaul the system
So your asking a group of players to pay money to use their weapon to its greatest ability, how many people here played bow or musket before the infinite ammo was put in?
If you havent played back then and are just complaining now and only playing on one side of the argument, please don’t think that changing ammo usage would change anything in terms of people playing them, it would just make it harder for people who cannot make money to compete whatso ever against anyone else as they might be at a 20% damage difference than the next person because they may not beable to afford ammo
