Once again, I wanted to try putting this up for visibility. It seems like it could be such a simple change, and not something that would hinder non-roleplayers. Amazon Game Studios: You would be gaining a fairly substantial amount of players that would not really care about system changes or anything else that you do to the game. Roleplayers will spend money on cosmetics (provided they look cool), and may even subscribe if they feel they will play long term. Roleplayers only care about having a system that works WITH them, and not against them, for chat. That is the only thing that is causing the roleplay community to leave. I implore you AGS, please consider this minor change. Local chat needs a smaller proximity (around a small building size) and the chat generally needs to be easier to use. If all we get is proximity changes, thats completely fine.
I know this has been brought up a long while back from the very beginning, and I feel it will be a losing request, but seeing all the good changes coming to the game, I would really like to see a revitalization for players that roleplay. I know Roleplayers probably are a minority by this point, but we’re pretty desperate for a new and cool MMO.
For those of you who don’t know, I have been at the reins of the New World Roleplay Discord since the original owner stepped down, due to the game’s chat system largely working against roleplayers–many roleplayers have followed suit.
The change doesn’t have to be huge, all we are asking for is a smaller radius of area text chat (maybe around the size of a tavern? Not the whole town) and IF possible, an easier chat to navigate, closer to WoW’s chatbox or Final Fantasy 14. This is all that it would take to bring back a good chunk of roleplayers who have left–and probably keep playing as well as provide revenue in the way of armor skins/weapons (RPers are pretty easy to please in that way). It wont take much. Even if it isn’t something done right now, we would like to know if this could be at least a short term possibility.
The reason this helps us: It helps us locate other RPers by seeing closer posts, as well as avoiding others that do not want to see our roleplay in their chat.
Another suggestion/addition to the aforementioned: custom chat channels with ability to send invitations/adjust what kind of proximity you want for text/whether or not it should be text chat or voice chat (this isn’t required though).
