Respec Cost Too High

This is a game bro. Let us enjoy it how we want?

After they change it, I’ll even let you transfer me gold everytime you respec so you can still enjoy it the original way…

I was doing that but eventually I couldn’t afford that. To be fair…

One day I was specced as tank but we got a tank for Dynasty. Since I preferred DPS, and was planning on speccing back soon, I respecced back to dps after confirming we have a tank. First couple of adds and the aggro keeps disappearing from the “tank”. When we ask him about carnelian gems, he asks us “what are those?”. I was fortunately still holding on to my tank gear (a whole added weight cost to wanting to multi-class) so I tanked most of it without respeccing until I absolutely had to and had the “tank” go dps.

But the problems only continued from there. We had problems with one dps, and knew we would because they were slightly below level (they had the key to get us in) but the “tank” was doing absolutely zero dps. At this point it felt like we had one dps, one tank, and one healer. It was fine until we hit the dynasty boss. We couldn’t kill the adds, so after the add phase I’d be tanking the boss and about 5 adds. So we have him leave, pick up carnelian gems and I respec back to dps. He starts tanking and… aggro goes everywhere. He didn’t grab the abilities that specifically taunt. We then teach him how tanking works but still… we can’t complete it.

So we ask if they’d be willing to leave so we can pop someone else in. They say yes, and we get someone else in… fortunately they’re a tank, but the damage had already been done, 2k down the drain. That said, even respeccing once every few days became too costly.

I think this is what happens when trying to play the game the same way you would any other modern MMO where you can easily switch to whatever role you want at a moment’s notice. Your group could have instead started at the point where you told the guy to grab carnelian gems if the general approach to the game was instead that when you don’t have someone who plays the role you need, then you have to find someone new who does. Because the game is designed in this latter way, it incentivizes socializing with a broad range of players rather than just a couple.

As for the respeccing every few days, that’s not really what I meant. I meant more like if you build a tank, play it for a month, then decide you’re kinda burnt out on it and want to do something different, it’s not that bad to switch to DPS for a month or longer until you get burnt out on that role, too.

Oh trust me, after that we asked everyone “do you have carnelian gems?” and you know what? It actually kind of makes you feel like an asshole to ask. The lack of respeccing actually stifles social activity… instead, you are just spamming chat until someone says they’re a tank, and then you proceed to question if they’re actually a tank, and then just going with an awkward silence. Some of the funnest socializations I had was in early game when respeccing didn’t cost much and a full group of DPS talked about what we can do to allow us to run (since no tanks/heals could be found).

I actually hate when games allow multiple roles. The exception to that was Rift, which New World seems heavily inspired by. There was a cost to it, but it wasn’t a complete blocker, and there was a “hidden cost” of having to farm for two different sets of equipment and to be able to hold them. You had to talk about what your group was going to do and what would fit best for the given situation. Given, their dungeons were much better developed and were developed with the “two possible roles” in mind. For example, in some dungeons, you’d need three DPS in the first couple a boss fight, but on the third one, you’d benefit most from having a tank, off-tank, 2 dps, and heals. The idea of swapping was built into the design. So can’t really hold New World accountable for not meeting that.

Recently I had to respec several times while I debugged my ice gauntlet / firestaff build. IMO respec costs should be removed or refunded if bugs are found in skills. If all skills are working as intended I think respec fees are a good thing. It encourages tanks / healers to level using those specs, and results in better tanks / healers.

This in an RPG where you can do everything. You aren’t bound by outdated RPG tropes. You absolutely should be able to swap at will.

Hah hah hah! I’m thinking … just my personal opinion … that the right build for killing those pigs and wolves at level 20 just might not translate directly to the right build to wage war with at level 60.

That’s just me though :stuck_out_tongue:

There is no need to pay for a respec. It should be on a timer, money is difficult enough as it is to obtain. And when you respec often you need all the gear to match whatever you are respecing too, that costs a lot of time and money as it is.

Agreed really. I understand the gold sync for economy balancing but its 360 gold per respec right now and I really want to experiment after maxing out FS and IG. Seems pretty harsh to me. Maybe do a thing where if you respec multiple times in certain amount of time it starts escalating the price temporarily? Thought I don’t really get the point to doing that either.

In a perfect New World, it would be free as someone else suggested above me.

But it’s not? If that were the case, then why are we talking about things like tanks and healers and DPS? And those roles aren’t outdated even. Just because they’ve been around a long time doesn’t make them not fun or bad design.

Good news! They’ve lowered the respec cost by 60% for attributes and 75% for weapon respec.

I’ve already quit the game because of gold duping, complete lack of content and other reasons such as this thread’s topic. I don’t see myself ever playing again but came back to review where the game is at.

I’ve read through this entire thread, and this is the dumbest comment on here. The post was made long before Outpost Rush was implemented, and every successful MMO on the market doesn’t have horrific limiters as this was at the time in place to let you play and enjoy the game.

Just because something was poorly designed back in the day doesn’t mean it’s not worth changing.

BE THANKFUL YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO RESPEC AT ALL

This is disturbingly tone-deaf simping for bad game design. Good lord. You poor child.

On topic, looks like my opinions were vindicated and adjustments were made. Too little, too late for me. Glad for anyone who’s still playing!

Why are you even responding to something that isn’t even relevant anymore? For someone who isn’t playing anymore, you sure invest a lot of time in digging up week old topics to ‘share your review’

pfft like anyone cares. enjoy your life elsewhere

I stand by what I said. People aren’t supposed to use the respec to do a dungeon and respec back, but I guess they all didn’t know how to make money and now have no money left to respec so they changed it to an insignificant amount because if players aren’t babysat and given free stuff they quit, just like you.

I was doing fine with the 500 respec, I still was able to change and do other builds, but you couldn’t do it in a brainless way, as I’d imagine you would.

This is my topic, so it wasn’t dug up. There’s always a chance I could play again as I did have a lot of care for the game, so reviewing changes AGS has made is worthwhile.

I was objectively correct and AGS made the changes. This is a step in the right direction.

People play games to have fun. Being able to change specializations (especially when many perks etc were and likely still are broken) increases the amount of fun that people are having. Every MMO has wrestled with this question and the most successful have come to the conclusion that being able to adjust your specialization is objectively more fun than being arbitrarily gated.

I don’t feel the need to address the rest of your remarks, they’re mostly pitiful thrashing. But I do want you and anyone else reading to know that you specifically are a detractor for this game’s health and success. You are a proponent of bad game design and are absolutely clueless.

Best of luck.

The easiest is change weapon and stats, easy will be to exist one meta weapon and everyone running with the same weapon

Just pointing out that it’s no longer relevant.

And people do need to be tended to otherwise they get bored.

imagine wanting to play all weapon classes with only one or the two character cap they give you smh. like really only two characters. im a big mmo player and once i reach max i want to make a new character and try out a new build or maybe my team that im playing with needs a healer or a tank so i switch to that class to help out. its 2021 people. older games let you make many characters or even give you the option to buy more character slots. i want to be able to play all builds. if you are going to have so many different types of play styles and only one character that can level up in everything then respecing should be free and have build save loadouts so we can quickly change classes to better enjoy playing with friends or making new ones in random groups.

also imagine if a build gets a nerf because its broken/op and everyone is running that build, then nerf comes so you want to play something different then you have to waist tons of money to respec and on new gear. i hope they fix this, having the freedom to play everything and how you like to play or change how you play is what makes a game fun

Congratulations!

Changed it to 200 but still holding me not to try different class hahaha should be free or less less cost
