If they are on other servers that defeats the purpose of Alts.
No I’m not wanting to get around game design but incorporate better design. Right now we are bound and constricted from enjoying New World like other RPGs in the fact we can’t respec due to cost and we also have no Alts. Again this isn’t complicated.
One has to happen Alts or a cheap 25Gold respec so people can play the game how they want and enjoy it. This isn’t asking for much but just basic core design that should be in ANY RPG.
One of us is severly confused, the whole time I want to make people able to easily swap roles and adjust attributes in what I consider the main content of the game, meaning melee DPS sometimes wants to go ranged or heal, to get more replayability from the game. Being also a mad gold generator should not be the prerequisite. But when I have bunch of gathering and processing life skills maxed, then I kinda am mad gold generator (except I take gold from other people and delete it - so not really generator - just still making sure we keep the deflation problem in mind) personally and respeccing to get 1 hit gathers is well worth my coin, so for sure I will. People who just play PvP couple hours a day are screwed though. Do you really think that when I’m gathering lego mats I don’t respec for it? You often need to instantly ninja orichalcum from other ppl to even have a chance to gather it
PS: the thing is I already have 350 hours on the game and I didn’t even play week 1. You can’t say: “so you respec anyway, what’s the problem then”, because I’m simply ahead of the curve in some things. Most ppl can’t easilly respec and when most players reach my level, the things I do will stop being as profitable and then we are ALL f***d
And implementing alts the way you want defeats the purpose of limiting alts so that you have to rely more on other players (i.e., trading and socializing). You are indeed trying to get around what is undoubtedly a game design decision by the developers. Do you think they limited you to one character per server just on a whim, or do you think they did that with some sort of purpose? If the latter, what do you think that purpose would be? Perhaps it would be to encourage reliance on other players? If not, what other possibility is there? That it had some weird, poorly chosen purpose that only you, anonymous forum game designer, can see the folly of?
Again … what are you talking about? Only Champ sees it? We all see it, milions of players of FF XIV, WoW and ESO see it, everybody but you and like 2 more dudes in this thread see it . Ofc they did it for a purpose and it is not necessary to do it for that purpose, which FF XIV specifically proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. That game is plenty social and the fact I swap my weapon and become healer doesn’t make it any less social. So that’s why people made this thread and said: “please change this somehow”. But I will again leave you all at this point and give it another week to see if there is some official statement from the devs about the topic by then.
Ok then it’s settled then we need cheap respec cost of 25 Gold to take place of multiple Alts.
One or the other has to happen - Alts or cheap respec. This isn’t complicated. We want people to truly be able to explore and enjoy what New World has to offer, not be bound and constricted from having fun. I got nothing else I can say. That’s that.
We are not talking weapon respec, but attribute respec. Not saying it’s a bad idea, just little offtopic. There could be questline for each attribute as well though. If they replaced full respec with the ability to move individual points, you could have some sort of questline for each attribute, like “Master Tank Challenge” which would then allow you to freely move points in and out of CON etc. But that’s honestly getting bit too overengineered
No. Again. That also defeats the purpose. You are not meant to be maximally good at every kind of harvesting at all times. Learn to trade and socialize; that’s what the game is designed for.
Just because other games do it worse doesn’t make expensive respec here good.
Why should it cost 1k gold for me to spec tank to save time for 5 people to run a dungeon (myself included) and to spec back after so I’m not being ineffecient with my time?
My time and my money is valuable to me.
I don’t want to spend time in outpost rush just to farm money so i can do activities that I enjoy.
Let me just play the game how I want without forcing me to grind some activity thats not fun for me?
With that logic, why even have a leveling system? Just make everyone the same lvl and give them all the gear they want and they can fight. No grinding required.
I swear you kids will always find something to complain about. You know you can charge the people you are tanking for a fee to tank, say respecs aren’t free. You can easily get 4 other people to each give you 250 gold.
You just don’t communicate and get taken advantage of. It’s not the respec cost that’s the problem.
If you aren’t a dedicated tank, then you have to pay 1k to respec to tank and back. At least you have that option, other games you would have to grind a whole other account to do that.
First of all, 500g is nothing. Second of all, maybe your ADHD Ritalin brain should choose something and stick with it like every MMO used to be. Commit to something for once in your life.
I was doing that but eventually I couldn’t afford that. To be fair…
One day I was specced as tank but we got a tank for Dynasty. Since I preferred DPS, and was planning on speccing back soon, I respecced back to dps after confirming we have a tank. First couple of adds and the aggro keeps disappearing from the “tank”. When we ask him about carnelian gems, he asks us “what are those?”. I was fortunately still holding on to my tank gear (a whole added weight cost to wanting to multi-class) so I tanked most of it without respeccing until I absolutely had to and had the “tank” go dps.
But the problems only continued from there. We had problems with one dps, and knew we would because they were slightly below level (they had the key to get us in) but the “tank” was doing absolutely zero dps. At this point it felt like we had one dps, one tank, and one healer. It was fine until we hit the dynasty boss. We couldn’t kill the adds, so after the add phase I’d be tanking the boss and about 5 adds. So we have him leave, pick up carnelian gems and I respec back to dps. He starts tanking and… aggro goes everywhere. He didn’t grab the abilities that specifically taunt. We then teach him how tanking works but still… we can’t complete it.
So we ask if they’d be willing to leave so we can pop someone else in. They say yes, and we get someone else in… fortunately they’re a tank, but the damage had already been done, 2k down the drain. That said, even respeccing once every few days became too costly.
I think this is what happens when trying to play the game the same way you would any other modern MMO where you can easily switch to whatever role you want at a moment’s notice. Your group could have instead started at the point where you told the guy to grab carnelian gems if the general approach to the game was instead that when you don’t have someone who plays the role you need, then you have to find someone new who does. Because the game is designed in this latter way, it incentivizes socializing with a broad range of players rather than just a couple.
As for the respeccing every few days, that’s not really what I meant. I meant more like if you build a tank, play it for a month, then decide you’re kinda burnt out on it and want to do something different, it’s not that bad to switch to DPS for a month or longer until you get burnt out on that role, too.
Oh trust me, after that we asked everyone “do you have carnelian gems?” and you know what? It actually kind of makes you feel like an asshole to ask. The lack of respeccing actually stifles social activity… instead, you are just spamming chat until someone says they’re a tank, and then you proceed to question if they’re actually a tank, and then just going with an awkward silence. Some of the funnest socializations I had was in early game when respeccing didn’t cost much and a full group of DPS talked about what we can do to allow us to run (since no tanks/heals could be found).
I actually hate when games allow multiple roles. The exception to that was Rift, which New World seems heavily inspired by. There was a cost to it, but it wasn’t a complete blocker, and there was a “hidden cost” of having to farm for two different sets of equipment and to be able to hold them. You had to talk about what your group was going to do and what would fit best for the given situation. Given, their dungeons were much better developed and were developed with the “two possible roles” in mind. For example, in some dungeons, you’d need three DPS in the first couple a boss fight, but on the third one, you’d benefit most from having a tank, off-tank, 2 dps, and heals. The idea of swapping was built into the design. So can’t really hold New World accountable for not meeting that.
Recently I had to respec several times while I debugged my ice gauntlet / firestaff build. IMO respec costs should be removed or refunded if bugs are found in skills. If all skills are working as intended I think respec fees are a good thing. It encourages tanks / healers to level using those specs, and results in better tanks / healers.
