Response to Territory Management Dev Blog, Why it’s bad, and How to Improve it

I hope so that would be good. I guess we’ll see

Doubtful they will change anything. Will be interesting to see the economy on fresh start servers with such a large coin sink.

Although they’ll be getting a coin from leveling and the daily coin sacks they will still have very little territory standing meaning higher trading taxes. It will take a while for upgrades to happen since more players will be focusing the MSQ over town boards. So Ultimately it will depend on the trading post activity while the towns are upgrading.

Exactly. Seems like they doubling down on it too by adding the faction headquarters. Hopefully they will expand on them further to make them actually mean something.

That’d be nice. It seems like these cart rewards in towns are useless as they don’t give out much but can easily be improved. I really like the idea of them scaling with the level of the town. If you got high level mats at max upgrades everyone would upgrade.

:man_shrugging:

And the biggest issue people have with revenue is ignored, again.

As long as the town revenue can be used as a personal wealth generator for a select few, the entire system is going to remain broken.

Case in point. One of the officers in a company on my server withdrew almost 4 million gold so he could buy himself a new weapon, cleaning out the treasury in the process. Then raised all of the tax rates to maximum to scalp everyone using the town facilities.

Town revenue shouldn’t be able to be withdrawn for personal use. It’s been abused since it’s inception, and will continue to be abused until AGS corrects their error.

Get rid of town ownership, remove the inherent greed factor! Stop fostering a 1% and a massive disparity for the 99%! We get this IRL, we don’t need it in our escape ie. New World. End the factions it’s so divisive, again we have enough of this IRL! Start a brand new chapter for PVP, A Seasonal Ladder system of Companies vs Companies. Let the Rewards be Something like Special Name Plates, Pets, Emotes or Any other form of recognition but not, I repeat not Hordes of Wealth for a very minute percentage of your player base. Change… is good and the right change will help AGS and the Player Base evolve and prosper together.

I could add this… I’ve owned Ebonscale 3 times since launch across 2 different servers. The first time was most of last year when E.R. was a money pit. The other times I made a windfall of wealth. I would certainly like to own it again… However I do honestly feel it is a badly flawed system that inevitable alienates too many players. Do I like being rich?.. sure. Is it really necessary to me to enjoy this game? Most certainly not. I personally, would rather see this system end.

PTR: Starstone Barrows/Amrine Expedition Mash-up

This will help limit the amount of wars companies holding territories can take place in. But again, the small attack requirement still doesn’t stop them from holding multiple territories and attacking at the same time. Companies will still easily defend two territories but mercing out those 15 remaining slots which would only require 70 company members and then attack during the same night.

More coins will be sunk and less will be generated. It seems like the decision was based on metrics from “legacy” servers.

The trade tax is not a gold sink. The gold changes the owner, but remains in circulation on the server.

The trade tax is a coin sink as long as there are towns that aren’t fully upgraded.

An upgrade costs 5-10k - the tax from a good armor piece or weapon. The tax increment is funneling more money to the companies that own towns.

No, an upgrade can cost as little as 100. Also, most people who are selling gear for that much don’t use the trading post. Even if they did that coin would be split among 12 territories, which would then be split even further depending on the number of upgrades.
