So the “Return to Aeternum Event” is supposed to showcase the gameplay of New World. This last challenge is laughable in the way it’s being played amongst the teams.
On at least one of the servers (you can watch their streams), the teams are “win-trading” OPRs at the moment and doing dungeons half-way because they found they could get credit for doing so.
They join the OPR and the “north” side team caps while the “south” side team farms for quick OPRs and to complete the contest. If that wasn’t bad enough, if a player on the decided losing team tries to actually PVP, they’re getting called out and lambasted in general chat, with at least some players saying their “writing down the names of the sweaty ones.” To what end, I’m not sure.
IF this is supposed to be sponsored by AGS to showcase their gameplay and this challenge is to really demonstrate end-game content, it’s not happening.
I feel like the #moderators and #developer-corner should know. Perhaps even DQ the cheating teams.
I don’t think it’s the streamers or players fault tho. They’re gamers and if there is an easy option it will be utilized no matter what.
I think the problem is the challenges, they’re far too time consuming for a two-three week event (some challenges are even timegated). And the fact that there really wasn’t given out enough keys at the start of the event, and instructions for the people who got them. It’s an event server with challenges and not a fresh-start-do-whatever-you-want type server.
At least this is the impression I’m left with. But hey, I’ll get my drops and get to hang out in BagginsTVs stream so it’s all good!
I agree that the challenges are tough and the team captains should address that with AGS.
The defacto, let’s just cheat around it isn’t acceptable and to call out those legitimately trying to do them properly along with being toxic toward them in server is, in my opinion an even bigger issue.
I guess if that’s how AGS wants to showcase their game, cheating and half-measures, that’s on them.
Whoever on AGS thought it was a good idea to require 200 runs of Depths or StarStone to meet the drop quota needs to reassess their goals.
They pretty much decided to show to new and returning players that what the game has to offer is “a massive boring grinding”.
I felt sorry for Baggins having to run Starstone over and over to meet the quota. Nobody wants to do this, nobody wants to watch this.
Requiring all expeditions 1x week would be fine.
They should also have created different goals like, killing solo an elite mob with all weapons. (it would give streamers the chance to talk about build, show combat techniques)
Or something to show the territory like finding a chest/item in a remote part of the map.
The streamer servers need way more open slots. Show the real New World get some heavy dungeon pve monsters. Some sweaty war monsters. Wars and high level End Game Content needs to be displayed. With a pop of 300 this is not going to show the real New World. One of the best things in my opinion is the communities that grow from it. With no pop you can’t show any of these things.
