Returned / New Server + Double XP Feedback

So a few months ago, I stopped playing NW completely. It was a combination of things. Am primarily a life skiller, and these are the main things that finally just killed my interest in the game:

  • Gathering Bots (everywhere).
  • Lack of Azoth - I could NEVER keep up with what I needed versus what I was getting.
  • Lack of PVE player support (my guild pretty much quit playing).
  • Storage Annoyances (try keeping your stuff in 6 towns and having to WALK to all of them, most of the time) Related to the Azoth issue.

However, my plan was to wait a few months and see what kind of updates were in the wind. And the Feb PTR notes really got me excited.

So 2 days before the Double XP Weekend (which I did not know about until the day it started) I created a new character on a U.S. West coast server, and started grinding away at quests/crafting. I also got a Blunderbuss as soon as possible (ended having to make it). Was level 39 by the end of the event, which was both a blessing and a curse. (New, new new players struggle with gear / mats / gold / inventory management, etc). For a while after the event I really struggled because my gear and weapons did not match the zones I was in, but have since resolved that.

I want to say in general that the new quality of life updates are fantastic, and that the leveling experience was way smoother, which is great. The Double XP weekend was probably a major shortcut to 60, but really I would have rather been 50 and used the event to get the last 10 levels. I hope this is done again.

As a crafter, I am thrilled beyond measure at the new storage box updates, and also as a crafter, I am so happy I can go where I want to go via Azoth when time is an issue. I also appreciate the new shrine locations.

I do however, have one negative regarding the starting beach area - Supposedly there were weapon racks that newbies would have access to via a very early quest. Wherever it is now, I never saw it, and I was looking. It should be on the beach where you start the first quest, It should sparkle, and there should be a quest related to it. I was level 12 before I got a Blunderbuss, which was really annoying, as that was the weapon I wanted to main and test out. (Side note, am liking it, and still using it at level 49).

I’m also huge into gathering and crafting. Curious how you felt about the mid-tier crafting stuff? I was having a huge issue keeping up with the crafting requirements to make gear for my level, even without the double exp weeked. I was spending hours gathering and grinding my crafting level so that I could make a new set of armor every like 10 levels.

So generally speaking, NW players recommend leveling and questing and starting to craft later (at end game). Mainly because if your doing quests, you get gear anyways, and if you need something made, a guildie who is crafting can help, or there is the trader.

I however, do not play that way. I maxed out crafting on 3 toons in ESO before getting to end game levels. So yes, new armor to go with your level, if your going the crafting route, is hard. I would personally say even impossible. I am level 49, Armour crafting is at 117 or something like that, and I gave up trying to craft armor. Not enough mats, , and I do not have all crafting mods I need (not on the auction house either, ARG). Plus I wanted to make 3 T4 blue bags, which sucked up mats I could have used to craft a set of t4 rugged leather armor. Bags are way more expensive on the trader then crap gear is.

I just bought a bunch of junk gear on the Trader and kept going. I did however, craft my Starmetal tools. Got lucky with a trader listing for a neat junk purple Blunderbuss, and a blue sword with a good perk on it. Also got blue luck gear, and am starting to collect the cheaper tradeskill gear sets.

Mid-Tier crafting is hard. You need so many damn mats to level. Since gear does not matter until you get into the end game Gear Score shenagigans, I’d recommend just buying your gear until you get your first real Gear Score set.

That makes sense. I’m currently levelling my third character and I’m at around 54. My issue is as a healer there is never any good gear drops for me. So often the gear you find will suit most people but for my playstyle I almost need to buy/craft my items. Mats and gear are expensive on the market also, just because materials are in themselves a pain to gather. Unfortunate to have to spend gold on new gear rather than saving for that Ebonscale house I want. :pensive:

I’m just baffled that they would do all this work to introduce new/returning players and then ignore crafting all together. I got excited because I thought there may be a double exp on crafting too and then I just ended up getting further behind my crafting curve.

I’ve been told that the new 590+ gear score stuff is basically expedition grind only. Crafting high tier gear is damn near impossible with the ridiculous amount of RNG you need to roll good perks. I guess I’m curious if the crafting feels better at lower levels, but apparently it’s just as horrid as later on.

So the crafting system is meant to take a long while to max out on any one line. And if your trying to do that with several lines, it does get harder and harder. They have said (forum comment someplace) they would consider a crafting XP event at some point, but at best, that is a month or more away. Meanwhile, the forum is actually quite full of crafting threads were people outline a bunch of problems.

And yea, from what I understand, the end gear crafting scenario sucks for a whole different set of reasons. Ori scarcity being a huge elephant in the room right now. And the RNG system can suck my rosy ass. The ONLY mmo crafting system I have played that had RNG aspects to crafting was Everquest. It’s been a long time but I think the higher your crafting level was (and it really did take months to level it), the better the RNG aspects got.

I personally HATE RNG in crafting. It’s a cheap way of controlling scarcity, in a game where there are already other scarcity issues in play, which make the entire system a basic gaming table and not at all fun. Me, I’m just doing this because 1) it’s what I do, 2) If I want something craftable, I can do it myself (pots and food especially), and 3) if someone wants something crafted, I can do it. I do plan to do Jewelry crafting as well, but not until I level everything else.

I can get away with leveling arcana, jewelry and furniture at the same time as they don’t usually have a nasty shortage (aside from flux which makes me want to die constantly) but theres a lot wrong with the crafting system right now.

I played a lot of WoW and ESO where I mainly did side quests with crafting and pets and the like. It’s so sad to see New World alienate all of us who just want to collect stuff and craft. Even their crafting system feels like it’s competitive. RNG can also kiss my ass, I won’t even look at this rabbit nonsense for a similar reason.

Good luck on your farming and grinding journey!! I’ll probably wait a week or two for a server to die again so I can just transfer there. I’m tired of needing to rely on buying from bots to level up.

Yea, the rabbit thing is nuts. I killed like 500 rabbits and then stopped. I kill em if I see em, but not going out of my way.

You too! Not sure what region your in, but if your on U.S. West, El Dorado is open (that is where I re-started 2 weeks ago).
