So a few months ago, I stopped playing NW completely. It was a combination of things. Am primarily a life skiller, and these are the main things that finally just killed my interest in the game:
- Gathering Bots (everywhere).
- Lack of Azoth - I could NEVER keep up with what I needed versus what I was getting.
- Lack of PVE player support (my guild pretty much quit playing).
- Storage Annoyances (try keeping your stuff in 6 towns and having to WALK to all of them, most of the time) Related to the Azoth issue.
However, my plan was to wait a few months and see what kind of updates were in the wind. And the Feb PTR notes really got me excited.
So 2 days before the Double XP Weekend (which I did not know about until the day it started) I created a new character on a U.S. West coast server, and started grinding away at quests/crafting. I also got a Blunderbuss as soon as possible (ended having to make it). Was level 39 by the end of the event, which was both a blessing and a curse. (New, new new players struggle with gear / mats / gold / inventory management, etc). For a while after the event I really struggled because my gear and weapons did not match the zones I was in, but have since resolved that.
I want to say in general that the new quality of life updates are fantastic, and that the leveling experience was way smoother, which is great. The Double XP weekend was probably a major shortcut to 60, but really I would have rather been 50 and used the event to get the last 10 levels. I hope this is done again.
As a crafter, I am thrilled beyond measure at the new storage box updates, and also as a crafter, I am so happy I can go where I want to go via Azoth when time is an issue. I also appreciate the new shrine locations.
I do however, have one negative regarding the starting beach area - Supposedly there were weapon racks that newbies would have access to via a very early quest. Wherever it is now, I never saw it, and I was looking. It should be on the beach where you start the first quest, It should sparkle, and there should be a quest related to it. I was level 12 before I got a Blunderbuss, which was really annoying, as that was the weapon I wanted to main and test out. (Side note, am liking it, and still using it at level 49).
