After returning from a 5 months brake I am amazed at the balancing. No, not in a good way. What happened to armor diversity? Jumped into an OPR, full of light players perma rolling. Tried the 3v3…full of light players perma rolling. Ok, so let’s get out the light set and rapier and see why.
I LOLed…how did the community allow Amazon to completely negate all medium and heavy builds. I still have the old April gear, not even BIS, and I can perma roll and fleche around without even a scratch. They even took out the post-roll stagger so you don’t need the skill to time weapons swap?
I know, someone will say either “other armors play a role in wars” which 90% of players probably barely get a chance to play. Or, “you have to carefully stamina manage or you’ll get rooted”. Yeah…right…stamina manage insane stamina regen haha.
On top of seeing tons of 6 months old bugs, returning to a patch that breaks trading - it’s looking a little sad, no? I mean, for players who never left it’s probably not obvious. You suddenly wake up and realise “woha, I’m in light armor and rapier - I don’t even LIKE rapier but there is no option…oh well mashes dodge”.
I get that there are “metas”, but let’s be fair - for rapier+light armor combo to instantly outclass, outrun and outplay any medium/heavy builds in a opr/arena seems like someone took their eyes off the balancing road. Only a few days in and I miss playing against lots of diverse players - makes it fun. Now, I’m sitting in OPR either with a bow, a musket or a spear, oh no, not together…you only have one dps weapon choice in opr/arena, the other is defaulted to rapier.
i dont have the space on my povo PC to install the PTR so don’t know if this is already being addressed (have little hope when a small weekly patch immediately brings more dupes). Please correct me if this is something already in the works. PLEASE, tell me if you’re still competitively playing opr/arena in medium/heavy non rapier build (and don’t give me the pockethealer scenarios).
That sums up the meta nicely, lol. Didn’t take you much time to figure it out. They added a lot of changes in the crafting and pve department. But for combat, well… you nailed it.
Unfortunately the game has regressed a lot in terms of balance. DEVs are very slow to tweak and a simple dodge tweak took several months and is hardly going to solve the current spam roll metal problem.
I’m sorry, New World is for us pve carebears and delusional PvP players who think iframes = maximum skillitude. You’re not suppose to think about it that much.
Light isn’t that much of an issue. Medium is far better but most people are bad with it.
Rapier is still OP, but it’s getting nerfed hard next patch. Honestly other than LS, bow, and flamethrower, balance is pretty good. AGS overtuned a lot of the low-skill playstyles but hopefully that will be fixed soon.
I hope you are right about a fix. I think in any MMO you can always see how the balance of pvp is by looking at the common arena fights. If there was 70% light armor I would almost say, yeah…getting close. But surely NW Devs can’t look into opr and actually feel they have balanced dex+lightarmor when literally 90% of players run it. That’s gotta be a big red balancing flag.
I think I’m just sad that after all these months balancing has gone backwards. Balancing takes time, small tweaks here and there, but to steer the ship so far into one category of dps, that’s kinda sad. ESPECIALLY seeing we have all these amazing options with medium, heavy and non-Dex weapons. It kinda negates all of that work.
Imo the OPR usage rate isn’t that imporant. Light & medium are pretty balanced in actual PvP fights.
It’s just used all the time in OPR because for musket trolls hiding in the hills, they have zero threats. They can comfortably play with 5 con and sit a mile away with their zero-falloff hitscan gun.
Pretty much right. Don’t even bother playing in PvP, this meta is atrocious. I’d rather have back the 5onyx 5resilient meta and hitting for 30 than this.
Mutated dungeons are fun, at least. Give them a try when you can
Love to see how this “supposed” immortality works. I’ve supposedly got the best healer build (and gear) for OPR. Got a rapier and lifestaff that are both 625. Rest of my gear is 616.
I get annihilated by the other team the second they notice I’m healing people.
To be honest light armor gives the most damage and people like big numbers so light will always be the meta… people are simple man its not really a balance issue. Thats why dps always heavily outweighs supports and tanks in mmos.
Good news is light armor won’t be god all powerful after this update. If you roll spam directly after taking a hit you’re going to still be in homing range for a melee beat down.
Plus rapiers riposte after animation can be stunned now.
I’m not sure if that will make heavy viable for small scale pvp yet, but medium feels pretty great right now.
Yeah guys, it is a light issue not rapier. Broken weapon inflating egos. “Its has the worst tracking” when it doesn’t. I have people running into grav well so they can spam riposte.
I have been running light WH/GA for pvp for around 10 months, and the main issue why everyone is running light is the added shirking fortification which is usable on light for no real reason and nerfed Grav Well to the point you can pretty much just auto run out of it because of forum crying. Add in all the dex dodges, hastes that ignore the exhaustion/0 stam slow mechanic, and riposte spam on cooldown, we are now in the dex meta where any bad player can be unkillable. Open world pvp is literally just dex players.
Returning players need to stop posting like they know wtf they’re talking about. Heavy armor is not supposed to chase light. You getting away is intended and you are fighting morons if they are trying.
Please continue to run off point in OPR and farm your 3k score. Bruisers + healers will continue to completely dominate anything that matters.
I play heavy in opr and war - works great. Most heavy players are awful and don’t understand the concept of iframes plus they chase people they have no business chasing.
I actually didn’t say I didn’t enjoy the game. Played it heaps and loved it. I had to take leave because of work. The game not changing doesn’t sound accurate either. Not sure if you were there from the start but it was very much a GA/Hammer Bruiser meta with light armor player whinging they would melt when they came into contact with one of these. Now, this is cetainly no longer the case. So I’m not entirely sure what your post contributed to the discussion.
To help other players I would love if you had a video of an opr fight to refer other players to. Every heavy player I see recently ( now that dex players understand mortal empowerment) get melted very fast. unless they have a good healer pumping of course, but a light player with a good healer could live in the clump as well.
