I got a ring from the gypsum kiln with an open gem slot but all gems say not compatible with this item when I try to slot it.

I’ve got the same issue. Old Ring from a Gypsum drop. It has an empty socket but each time I try to put a gem in it, it says “Gem is not compatible with that item.”
I have the same problem. Have both an amulet and a ring. Neither works.
You can’t put gems into jewelery / change them. You have to craft the jewelery with the desired gem. Since they added jewelery as random drops with the last patch, it must be a bug that they drop with empty sockets I guess.
Experiencing the same error. This is just sad, I wonder how many people spend 50k+ on old rings/amulets/earrings and realize that AGS straight up cheated them.
Why it is not solved yet?
I mean this is major issue - you cannot have gem in item. ANd its not solved yet.
